Hi Dale,
Thanks for your interest in our Behr Premium 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint. Our 1-Part Epoxy Floor Paint is available in 75 popular custom floor coating colors (refer to the Behr Premium Concrete & Wood Floor Coating color card) and tintable in a wide variety of colors from the Color Solution Center at your local The Home Depot.
This product requires a primer on uncoated concrete floors. Listed are the following steps for the best results.
For Uncoated Concrete Floors
1. For proper penetration and adhesion of the topcoat, use Behr Premium NO. 991 Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher to clean and etch the surface.
2. After the surface is clean, etched and dry apply Behr Premium NO. 880 Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer to increase adhesion of topcoat to the surface.
For Previously Coated Concrete Floors
Option 1. If the majority of the floor has loose or peeling paint, it may be necessary to completely strip the entire surface with Behr Premium NO. 992 Concrete & Masonry Paint Stripper.
Option 2. If the majority of the floor is in good condition then you may only need to remove any loose or peeling paint and scuff sand the surface. Any previously coated area in good sound condition can be coated over.
3. Use Behr Premium NO. 990 Concrete & Masonry Degreaser & Cleaner to clean previously coated surfaces in good sound condition.
4. If necessary, use Behr Premium NO. 991 Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher to clean and etch any bare smooth concrete areas.
5. Spot prime all bare concrete areas with Behr Premium NO. 880 Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer to increase adhesion of topcoat to the surface.
Please note: Muriatic acid is not the best option for cleaning and etching, as it may cause more damage to your surface instead of preparing it for topcoating. Read Less

Hi Dale, the basics are on the shelves (silver grey, sandstone, slate grey, varying shades of greys and tans, even some blue/greens). You can also buy the Behr Epoxy coating in a deep base, and make your own color. But definitely clean the surface with either a fully strength degreaser or the Behr etching solution (available right next to the floor covering paint supplies in the stores). I have not used muriatic acid as a wash except on raw concrete to remove rust/oil stains and or to brighten and clean aged concrete. For a garage or basement I would not recommend as the muriatic acid takes a lot of clear water to wash away and even more to neutralize the muriatic. Plus, there is the concern of killing any plant life or other areas (like painted cabinets) that is permanent. The acid is also a huge concern as the fumes are toxic and nasty to get rid of.
Just use the degreaser/or etching solution (follow printed instructions) and apply the primer good and heavy.

Answer:
Check the can but figure real life application is about 250sq ft. I believe the can is between 300-400 sq ft depending on how porous the surface. Even on my smooth concrete garage floor I was seeing about 250 sq ft applying it pretty heavy. So if your double coating the area figure 250 (baically 1.6 gal); so you need two gallons and will have some left over for touch-up or other projects.

Answer:
Sure thing just remember clean good, dry well, apply primer (overnight drying), and then top coat. Best to stay off for 2-3 days depending on temps, but should be fine otherwise.... as long as moisture isn't a constant issue in this area.

Hi Kit,
Thanks for your interest in our Behr Premium 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint. The 1-Part Epoxy is suitable for application on a clean and properly prepared basement floor. Please refer to the product label for proper preparation and application instructions. Please note 1-Part Epoxy and most floor coatings should not be applied to areas subject to hydrostatic pressure. All interior concrete floors are subject to possible moisture vapor rising from under the concrete (Hydrostatic Pressure), which may cause coating failure. Test for moisture by taping a 3’ x 3’ piece of clear plastic directly to the concrete using duct tape on all edges. Allow the plastic to sit for 24 hours. If water droplets appear on the inside of the plastic after 24 hours or if the concrete is damp, the surface contains moisture and the floor should not be painted. The moisture problem must be corrected before coating. Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 96 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smooth Application, Pleasing Color, Easy CleanUp I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I’ve had this paint sitting at home for quite some time, with great intentions to use it when I first got it, but not getting to this job until now. I share this because I was half expecting the contents to be spoiled in some way, but to the contrary the contents looked like they just came off the assembly line, smooth and creamy and the color mixed together very nicely with just 30 seconds of moderate stirring. Although I am not suggesting it’s wise to buy paint so far in advance, my instinct says the product is made of quality ingredients, although reading the reviews posted by others I suppose it’s hard to say. My paint project was a side-entry unpainted concrete slab that gets little traffic but is visible from the street. I first pressure washed the surface, then applied the epoxy primer, which went on very easily with a small roller and brush and dried clear (see pictures). I allowed the epoxy coat to dry a full day before applying the paint, which also went on very smoothly with a small roller and brush, and it seemed to offer very good coverage (I estimate I used only 4 - 6 oz to paint the 3’ x 4’ area). The surface of the slab was fairly smooth, with an occasional small hole or pockmark. The end result was very nice (see picture), and although I noticed a little streaking which I am confident would be eliminated with a second coat, I chose not to apply another coat now. The product label implies that often one coat is sufficient, but in any event not to apply more than 2 coats. Being an oil-based product, paint thinner (or equivalent) is needed for cleanup. I used a disposable roller cover, and cleaned my brush with thinner, a pretty easy task. Only time will tell how well the paint will hold up, as it will be exposed to a lot of sun, daily irrigation system water, dust and humidity. However my initial impression based upon this specific application is excellent. April 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This works great! If you are looking for a concrete floor paint that is easy to apply and holds up, this is the one for you. Painting the basement or garage floor gives your home a clean, high-end look and this epoxy paint really adheres without flaking or peeling. Follow the instructions and prep the floor as directed and you will see a beautiful result when you are finished. Follow our advice and get all of your tools when you purchase the paint (brush, rollers, etc). April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Finish If Prep Work Done Correctly Behr makes great products and the epoxy floor paint is no exception. As with all cement sealing/staining projects, proper preparation is necessary to ensure proper adhesion. The professionals will sweep, power wash, sand, re-wash, rinse, acid wash, rinse, and THEN apply epoxy. For me, a DIYer, I sweep, power wash with the strongest pressure on my hose, scrub with my orbital machine and brush, rewash and rinse, acid wash, rinse, and when dry at the right temps, apply the epoxy. Then it's time to let it cure before driving/walking/placing items on it. The prep work is intensive, but it will pay off in the end! Don't take shortcuts and you'll be happy with the result. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good paint highly recommended So I used this to paint my 2-car-garage yesterday. I did minimum prep ( washed the floor with soap and hot water) and applied 2 layers. I'm very happy with the out come. I'll buy this paint again. April 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best paint floor garage/mechanical room floors!! This was a great quality paint. When dry, the color was even better than I had expected it would be. I am very pleased with this brand and personally recommend this for anyone who wants to protect and have their garage or mechanical room floors looking professionally clean. April 21, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not too good I cleaned the surface real good. Followed the instructions and it looked great untill I put the cars in the garage. The paint where the tire tracks were had come off. I only waited 3 days to drive on it. I should have waited 7 days. I went back to HD and bought another gallon. Cleaned and prepared the surface again, waited 7 days. Put the cars in and the paint came off again. Not very happy with the results, especially after the price I paid. January 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Garage floor epoxy paint Easy to use & the results are very good. I like the final result in my garage floor. July 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I highly recommend Behr Paint The Behr paint covers well and meets the high expectations I already have for Behr products, having used them for years now. I use Behr for both inside and outside projects. My first experience was with Behr's exterior paint for the outside of my house. Amazingly, it lasted well over 10 years. I repainted this year and for the most part, the original Behr paint I had applied approx. 14 years ago was still in great condition. I would definitely recommend Behr paint to others and have, in fact, done so numerous times. November 10, 2015
