The previous owner of my house painted cartoon characters on the walls of the basement since he had used the space as a playroom for his children. Will that artwork bleed through or will this paint cover that with the 2 recommended coats? We plan on having the paint tinted and we were not planning on painting over it.

Hi Rick, thank you for your question. Make sure previously painted surfaces are in good, repaintable condition may be painted with BEHR PREMIUM® NO. 875 or NO. 876, Test for loose, flaking paint by pressing a piece of masking or cellophane tape at various places, then pull it off with an abrupt action. If the tape does not pull the paint from the surface, it can be painted. If the existing paint is removed, the loose paint should be removed down to a sound substrate by wire brushing or sanding. For Interior or Exterior application; remove deteriorated coating prior to application. We also recommend 2 coats of paint. Be sure to follow all back label instructions and best of luck on your project. Read Less

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 43 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really satisfied, exceeded my expectations My Portland basement had several moisture intrusion points, no water necessarily, but definitely the cement would get wet. I applied the product during fall and now that is February I haven't seen any moisture problems at all, my basement is still dry and the smell has improved a big deal. Pretty thick to apply. The most troublesome moisture point shows a yellowish stain, but that happened within hours of application, the cement was permanently moist; after a few months now, the stain hasn't increased. I would have tinted the color if I would have known that it was bright white, but I was determined to finish the project so I went ahead with white. Very satisfied. February 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice results! The paint covered the walls wonderfully and gave it a nice upscale look! January 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I'm pleased with this product It has high solids like all good paint, it coats well. Working on my third gallon now. January 15, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Misleading product description The product states the coverage area is 125 square feet. It took me six gallons of paint to cover (recommended two coats) a room that has approximately 288 square feet of wall space so it was well over the amount I originally purchased. Having said that, it does appear to be doing the job quite well as the basement is noticeably drier without any musty odor. January 5, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ok product - we added the sprinkles on it but think it would be better with a clear coat over them. all the stuff on this receipt were used to finish a craft area for the children in their new house. They love all of it. If we win more we will buy more stuff for the basement. the other side of the basement is for gymnastics, movies and playtime. Bummer picture would not upload and it was a great one showing all the products. December 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by basement waterproffer this the third time i have purchased this product and find it works just fine. would tell others about this product. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent waterproofing paint Prep worktakes some time but is worth the effort. Put 2 coats on basement walls that we had experienced some moisture on and after 3 days of rain we are still dry! Awesome product. October 27, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice results; needed 2 coats We used this paint to coat the inside basement walls of a home that was about 100 years old, after putting drain tiles around the outside of the walls. We cleaned the walls and prepped the bare surfaces with a muratic acid replacement. Some of the walls had been painted with a light green paint of unknown quality. The surfaces of the wall were uneven and rough. The waterproofer went on well with a combination of rollers and brushes. A second coat was needed to cover the light green and uncoated surfaces, The odor was low for this product. We were able to work in a basement with an exhaust fan comfortably, with little odor reaching the next leve. We also used this coating on the outside of the basement walls above grade. Again, we needed two coats. Since our exterior is white, we were happy with the white color of the coating. September 9, 2015
