Customer Questions & Answers

Can I appy this to stucco exterior wall with hairline crack (water is seeping inside my window). Or would you recommend another product?

Asked by: Nick
Most of the answers are correct! The Behr Basement Waterproofer would be the final finish. Although it can withstand some PSI H20 pressure, only a filler/patch of hydraulic cement will block the water from pushing through. The Behr BWP will stop splashing water, etc once applied over the repair. Step one is always to clean and, or etch the surface. Step two is the patch/repair. Step three is the Behr BWP. Keep in mind that you can have the Behr product tinted to a desired color also for asthetic purposes.

Is this an Odor Blocker Also?

I was thinking of using Kilz Oil Based Primer and Sealer because it has an Odor Blocking trait. Does this block odor also?
Asked by: BigBern
Although this is not specifically an odor blocker, I did notice an improvement in the basement air after using it. A very subjective of a thing but worth mentioning.

What should i use to prevent water from seeping into the back of my garage without tipping my patio foundation out?

Water leaks from the back side of my garage when it rains from the foundation it joins with garage.
Asked by: Leaksalot
Hello, Our products are not designed to stop leaks. The leaks would have to be repaired before applying our paints. I'd suggest checking with your local Home Depot representative for their recommendation on a product to repair the leaks. Best regards. Kevin

Can I use this as a sealer on exterior concrete block, and then paint over it?
Asked by: DJ
Hi DJ, Thanks for your question! The Basement and Masonry Waterproofer was designed to be a stand-alone product, however, if you'd like to apply another water-based paint on top, you definitely can. Best wishes for your project! - Sara

1-gal. Basement and Masonry Waterproofer is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 89.

Used this product to repaint a cinder block basement wall where the old waterproof paint was chipping. I scraped off where the old paint was loose and painted right over with this new waterproofer. The end result was very nice. The product is very thick and a little harder to work with than regular paint, but it adheres very nicely to the cinder block. I used a regular brush to paint the mortar between the bricks (which were deeper) then went over everything with a roller. The end result is a very consistent, bright white finish. The room looks a lot better (and the cats are no longer picking at the flaking old paint!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Appearance and Adherence Applied to unpainted dark gray cinder block walls to brighten appearance of basement After a month, it looks fine. Did not use primer. Brushed on heavy first coat to fill in pores; this was essential to obtaining good coverage in two coats. Applies smoothly, but allow plenty of time--especially for first coat. Paint is very thick and difficult to stir. I bought a gallon at a time, so HD could put paint in shaker shortly before application. Basement is dry, so cannot judge water blocking ability. No bad smell. Good appearance and adherence. HD Memorial week rebate of ten dollars per gallon was a nice added incentive. I'm a happy customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough paint I didn't do a whole lot of surface prep for a clean are block basement wall. Scraped it with a stiff brush and put on 1 thick layer with with a cheap brush with a few touch ups afterward. Some of the block was very slightly damp from condensation and it was no problem to paint over it. I just put a fan on it and it dried in no time. It was easy to apply, went on easily but not too drippy either. After a week or so I tested the adhesion with a wire brush and it took a lot of hard scraping to get through the layer of paint. It cleans up and touches up easily. There was a very slight ammonia smell but I had no problem painting indoors for hours with this paint. Its great if you can ventilate the area but it does not smell strong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works to waterproof basement walls IF you follow directions Surface must be clean and dry - any moisture or efflorescence and it won't adhere, no paint will. You also need to solve leak source - paint won't stop a flood. I used it on a leaky basement laundry room. 1st redirected downspouts and graded soil away from house. Then cleaned interior bsmt walls with UGL etch. Spent 2 weeks with dehumidifier drying out walls to bone dry. Skimmed with Sacrete surface bonding cement and let dry completely (another 2 weeks). Two coats of Behr waterproofer and basement has been dry for a year - had been damp for 20! Take your time, follow instructions, and this is a great deal. BUT you need to solve your leak source whether drainage/grading or water supply/downspout. Wife wanted it tinted slate blue (over my objections) and must admit she was right, color looks good. Also have used this under foam board insulation when finishing basements.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I used this on basement walls that had been previously... I used this on basement walls that had been previously coated with a stucco-like texture coating. This paint was difficult to mix and had a really bad odor. Fortunately the room had an exhaust fan. It did look good once it dried. One rather thick coat covered the old texture and the recent core filling repairs.

It is being used on concrete block walls to dress it up and finish our garage. We had some water come in during hurricane Matthew and we just brushed it off with a broom and it looks great as new

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product so far Pros, looks great, very little smell, easy to spread, did the job only had moisture in a very small area in cornersnd no water ever was in my basement. Cons: a gallon doesnt get you far, maybe 8 feet high by 10 feet wide double coated. Took me about 10-12 hours to paint 3 gallons. Glad it's all day, paint looks fantastic. Glad I chose this over drylok. Again I just had moisture on a couple blocks if it eve was moisture. If you are going to use this brush it don't roll it!! It probably faster to brush. The roller can't get deep into the block like the brush can and after day 1 I put the roller away. Saved 0 time. Haven't had a big rain yet but again moisture wasn't an issue for me but 1 tiny corner and block is in great shape still so no water concerns anyways. Love the look and is just nice knowing I have some protection now since my townhouse doesn't have gutters. If I knew how to post pictures I would, can find the upload area on my phone writing this review. Also I have no experience in updating houses, I'm the first one t say just pay someone to do it.
