Is this product available in 5 gallon cans and if so, how much $$ ??

Asked by: chooie
Less than the cost of five individual one gallon cans. Somewhere in the range of four or four and one half individual gallons. If you can hold off they run a sale ($5 off gal.) around Memorial Day every year. Currently they offer $5/gal for a limited time.

Can this be applied during the day when temp is above 40 and the temp drops below 40 laterduring the 72 hour cure time?

Asked by: Cookie
Hello Cookie, We appreciate your question. Yes, as long as air and surface temperatures are between 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity is below 50% during application, then it's okay if these go out of range while the product cures. Please bear in mind, though, that in a case like that the coating may need longer to fully cure. For best results, please follow all label instructions. Well wishes! -Joshua

Which stain is better for exterior shingles oil or water base

I am restaing the shingles on the outside of my home need to know the correct stain to buy
Asked by: Anonymous
Dear Honeybond, Behr's water-based, 100% Acrylic stains will significantly out last oil-based finishes. The chemistries are different in that the oil is a maintenance coat that needs to be repeated on a frequent basis, usually every 1-2 years. Whereas, Behr's water-based Acrylic will last much longer. In the case of the product you selected, Premium Solid Color Weatherproofing Wood Stain, the warranty is 25 years on vertical surfaces and 15 years on horizontal surfaces. There are three different opacities to consider for application on your shingles project depending upon the look you want....Transparent (shows the most wood grain), Semi-Transparent (shows some wood grain but adds more color) and Solid Color which only shows wood texture. Please see your local Home Depot store to see the differences between these looks in the Exterior Wood Care Center display or the Exterior Stains and Finishes Color Card. Thank you for the inquiry!

Application of recommended second coat.

The instructions indicate a recoat can be applied 1-2 hours after the first coat. Does this mean that application can occur any time after the 1-2 hour initial wait period or must the recoat be applied almost immediately following this interval? More specifically, can the recoat be applied two to three days later?
Asked by: Mike
Hello Mike, Great question! Ideally, the second coat would be applied after about an hour or two of applying the first. If needing to apply the second coat two or three days later, that's okay. If there's any rain or gusty winds in the forecast, though (such that dirt of other debris could collect on the first coat), I would recommend cleaning that first coat and letting it dry first. Hope this helps. Best wishes for your project! -Joshua

Solid stain over deckover??

I have a deck that was covered with deckover a few years ago. I want to replace some boards and restain with a different color. Can I use the solid stain over the existing deckover if it's cleaned first? Will it look noticeably different on the new boards?
Asked by: Curious
Hello Curious, Thanks for your support of Behr products. Yes, if the DeckOver is still intact on the remaining boards then after cleaning our solid color wood stain can be applied over it. Depending on how long the DeckOver has been on the surface, the new app of solid stain may look a bit different but mainly due to any natural fading that may have occurred over time. Worst case scenario would be to thinly recoat the DeckOver areas with solid stain for a uniform finish. Best wishes for your project! -Joshua

1 gal. Cedar Deep Base Solid Color Weatherproofing All-In-One Wood Stain and Sealer is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 169.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful absorption! This product was applied to weathered 20 years old exterior trim that was gray and cracking. It sealed the cracks and gave new color. After two coats that trim actually looks like new wood trim! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best stain & paint out there~ I've used Behr stains and paints for many years and have never been disappointed. Most recently put on a coat of weatherproofing solid, Cape Cod Grey, on a 12x12 shed sided with all wood T1-11. Rolled it on with a 3/8 roller and it worked well even on the rough T1-11. Used this same stain and same color on a similar shed I built about 12 years ago. One coat and it still looks great! I've been around quite a while and believe me over the years I've tried just about every paint and stain made and nothing beats Behr products - not even close! Rated 3 out of 5 by from Has A Serious Issue I have purchased 50 or so gallons of this product over the last 7 years to weather proof our home on Hatteras Island, NC. My experience has been that vertical applications hold up very well, but horizontal applications do not fare nearly as well, requiring repainting every 2-3 years. The product does not stain treated exterior lumber, rather it forms a coating on top of the wood surface, even when heavily sanded. The hard rain and the marine climate, plus staining of the paint by leaves and soil residue, deteriorates the surface and the coating peels off. This does not happen on vertical surfaces, even using the same lumber. And this product is expensive in the iniitial purchase, not to mention the frequent applications. I am now considering using a UV resistant epoxy paint instead for better adhesion. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old fence looks new again!! We had a fence that was in decent shape structure wise but the color was so faded and gray it made the whole backyard look gross. I wanted to stain it, and found this product - it goes on like paint and covered the fence perfectly with a sprayer. We used the dark chocolate color on the fence. Looks amazing and brand new. Would recommend to anyone!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use We stained our house with this. It is amazing. We went from a dark brown stain & used Muted Sage, Barn Red & Elephant Skin. We did have to put 2 coats on, but had anticipated that with beginning with such a dark color. It was very easy to use & clean up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still going strong Behr Premium was applied to a 25 year old deck. This was the first solid color stain applied. Previous semi trans stains were applied every three to five years. The Behr Premium has been on for four years and still is solid, not pealing and washes clean with a hose. Very pleased with this product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I applied this product to a new deck in 2014 and just finished re-staining the same deck today af... I applied this product to a new deck in 2014 and just finished re-staining the same deck today after only two years. I experienced significant fading (several shades lighter), minor peeling and wood splitting on several planks on the deck. I live in Southern California where I have a lot of intense sunlight but very little rain and no harsh winter conditions. The deck is on the eastern side of my home and is under full shade during the most intense afternoon sun. I'm wondering what conditions the 10-year warranty actually applies to. The product goes on easily and looks good right after application but the durability and long-term protection is poor and not as advertised. I experienced the same poor results after two years with a Behr semi-transparent stain applied to a redwood fence.
