Green Mold Removal

I am in a remote area, far from civilization and had a small amount of green mold growing on board and batten siding about two feet off the ground on the north side of the building. I have several gallons of the stain to apply on this building, but did not see the mold prior to purchasing the stain. We live an hour and a half, one way, from the nearest Home Depot. I did not have any of your #63 or #64 product, but did have some Clorox. Out of necessity, I diluted it with water and sprayed some on the mold and was pleasantly surprised the mold came off. I rinsed the area down with fresh water and am letting it dry. Can I now apply my Behr Premium Solid Color Weather Proofing Wood Stain and Sealer without further treatment once the wood is dry?

Hi James!
Thanks for your question! Since the mold has been treated, it's okay to apply the Solid Color Wood Stain; just make sure the rest of the surface is clean and dry before recoating. Best wishes on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

I have a deck that was covered with deckover a few years ago. I want to replace some boards and restain with a different color. Can I use the solid stain over the existing deckover if it's cleaned first? Will it look noticeably different on the new boards?

Application of recommended second coat.

The instructions indicate a recoat can be applied 1-2 hours after the first coat. Does this mean that application can occur any time after the 1-2 hour initial wait period or must the recoat be applied almost immediately following this interval? More specifically, can the recoat be applied two to three days later?

Answer:
Hello Mike,
Great question! Ideally, the second coat would be applied after about an hour or two of applying the first. If needing to apply the second coat two or three days later, that's okay. If there's any rain or gusty winds in the forecast, though (such that dirt of other debris could collect on the first coat), I would recommend cleaning that first coat and letting it dry first. Hope this helps. Read More

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This 10 year paint lasts 1 year maybe 2 before it needs to be redone on deck floor. This 10 year paint lasts 1 year maybe 2 before it needs to be redone on deck floor. I had this paint professionally applied on a deck that gets average use in the summertime. 4 parties a year.. Memorial day, Labor day and 2 or so cocktail parties a summer. The deck looked good the first year summer (the paint was applied that spring). Over that winter the deck floor paint started chipping and pealing. By the time the second summer started the deck needed to be redone. However I put off redoing the deck that year. Now its the spring of 3rd year and the deck is missing at lease 20% of the over 625sq feet of floor and horizontal railing coverage due to chipping and pealing. Just know if you use this paint you will have to redo your deck every other year. If you want the deck to look good every year you will have to redo the deck every year. May 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by bad product, lasted at most 2 years Stop buying it Home Depot is doing us DIYers a disservice by selling us this product. They say that they are working with the manufacturer on trying to fix these issues while continuing to sell the product. I used this product on a unstained deck 10 months after installing it. the product began peeling/wearing off by year one, by year two it needs to be redone. It was cleaned and prepared before using this product but this did not make a difference. I will admit it seems to do well on vertical surfaces, but on Horizontal surfaces it does not last. Read the other reviews, i am not the only one with an issue. I spoke with a Behr rep which asked me every thing but the moon phase to get me to beleive that i had messed it up some how. At least relabel the product to indicate it only lasts 2 years on decks. May 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Longest lasting stain available. We use about 100 gallons of this per month and have found it is the longest lasting, most hail-resistent, waterproof stain available, tho it should retail for at least 10%-15% less when bought in 5-gallon buckets! I question whether it will really last 25 years on a fence, but if it only lasts 20 I will be satisfied for spending the extra money. The labor is the same no matter what stain you use so why do the job 4x over 20 years? February 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really adheres to the wood! I love this stain. It goes on somewhat thick to give great protection, and I can almost feel it seeping into my old wood. I did the balusters a couple of years ago, and they still look freshly painted. This year I did the floor, and given the age of the wood, it really made such a huge difference. July 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best i have ever used If you follow the directions on the can you will be impressed. Excellent coverage very forgiving not watery like regular stains this acts more like paint than stain July 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for cedar fences! We chose the terra cotta color for this paint and I used an airless paint sprayer to do my entire backyard wood fence. One coat coverage and the look is fantastic! Just like I have a new fence. The paint penetrated the wood quickly, dried quickly, and still let the wood grain come through. July 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't last a year Worked hard cleaning and prepping our deck last year and wanted a good stain for it to keep it in good condition. Used this stain and in less than a year it started peeling up. WASTED money and time. June 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Impressive Coverage I used this product on old posts of our deck to match the semi-transparent stain on our newly refinished portion. Easy application and the color was very uniform after the second coat (even on varied quality of previous color underneath). I'm hopefully it will last the advertised 10 years. April 25, 2016
