Worked hard cleaning and prepping our deck last year and wanted a good stain for it to keep it in good condition. Used this stain and in less than a year it started peeling up. WASTED money and time.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Longest lasting stain available.
We use about 100 gallons of this per month and have found it is the longest lasting, most hail-resistent, waterproof stain available, tho it should retail for at least 10%-15% less when bought in 5-gallon buckets!
I question whether it will really last 25 years on a fence, but if it only lasts 20 I will be satisfied for spending the extra money. The labor is the same no matter what stain you use so why do the job 4x over 20 years?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Vols Composite Deck
I had installed Trex deck about 4 years ago, the deck was extremely faded, and I was really upset with the money I had invested in this deck and the result I was at 4 years later. I tried pressure washing, cleaning, etc.. but never got any better. Found this product at Home Depot and thought I would give it a try. I was about to rip the whole thing out and build a new one. I brushed the stain on and the deck looks brand new! The color is exactly the original color, went on easy, and great results. I hope it last for several years, that will be the icing on top if it does. Either way - there is a solution for faded/worn out composite decks!

Approximately ten years ago I gambled and used this product. It was a wise decision. I used barn red and tugboat brown. Back then the life expectancy was not as good as today's formula, and I'm due to re-stain. The barn red has a extremely mild fading, but still looks Great. The tugboat looks the same as the day I put it on! Excellent. Absolutely no issues with this product. Goes on super easy, and easy to clean up. My Wife even volunteered to stain since it was so easy! Has protected my wood extremely well over the years, and that IS why we are doing this.
Although it doesn't look it I'm re-staining again, and can see getting the maximum years of protection using Behr stain.

I too only applied this product last spring and a lot of the stain is peeling off. I was all set to write a nasty letter to Behr to tell them what a lousy product this was ans then I read the fine print. It says that a primer must be used first if you are applying it to certain types of wood, like cedar. Which of course my deck is. So now after power washing and scrapping as much of the old stuff as possible. I applied the primer that was recommended on the can, then the stain. So I will see what next spring brings.
Lesson learned.. read the fine print. As for the reviews, I think all the bad reviews were also a result of not properly priming and sealing the certain wood surfaces first

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unhappy Started peeling after only 8 months
We purchased the Solid stain color with the 10/25 year warranty in light grey last fall and stained our deck. It started peeling off and now looks terrible. We live in wisconsin and had a new deck built. We waited one year to let the deck boards dry out before staining it. The deck was washed and cleaned and the stain completely soaked in the wood. Our deck looked great until this spring when we started noticing the peeling. I would not recommend this product until they get it fixed. Its now going to take a lot of work to remove all the stain and apply new stain. Very unhappy customer.

This is a very easy to use stain. The consistency provides excellent coverage, it is quick drying (at least in 90+ degree weather with low humidity), it is self priming, and the clean up is simple and quick.
I'm suspicious that most of the negative reviews are the result of inadequate surface preparation. Unless the surface has been appropriately prepared you can be assured that no product will perform well.
My deck is 9' by 45' with a set of 1 story stairs. It took a full tiring day to pressure wash, strip off the prior finish, and re-pressure wash. It was dry enough to sand after 24 h and that took another half day of work but the surface was pristine. Using a leaf blower made quick work of removing the dust and debris from sanding.
The actual application of the stain was the easiest part. The stairs required brush application which took more time than the deck. The deck was quickly finished with a rough surface roller application and brush application on the edges along the house and by the guard rails. The application time was 1 1/2 hours and a second coat was applied 24 h later.
This is a good product and I had the bonus of purchasing this during the $5 off per gallon memorial day sale.

Like so many people, see internet, I thought I bought the good stuff. Put it on in July, next spring it had flaked off. I live alone, deck gets little use. I don't understand how they can keep selling this. I used to believe in Behr products, urged them on friends. No more for sure.
