I sprayed my deck and some over spray got on the side of my house. What is the best way to remove this stain from my siding?
Asked by: Stain
Water should work with rag. Try denatural alcohol

can this be applied to treated lumber? how long should the lumber be allowed to dry first?

I want to apply this to a new deck of PT lumber which is wet during installation. can this product be applied to the wet lumber or should it be allowed to dry before application, if so, how long? or how dry?
Asked by: Garr
Hi Garr, Yes, our Semi-Transparent Weatherproofing Wood Stain & Sealer can be applied to treated lumber. We recommend allowing the wood to dry out for at least 6-8 weeks before applying the stain. The dry time may vary depending on where you’re located, so you may want to contact the company you purchased the lumber from for more specific dry times. Having less than 10% moisture in the wood before staining would be ideal. Good luck with your project!

Can this be applied with a spray gun? I have lattice work around the bottom of my deck and it would be much easier to do if you could spray it.

Asked by: Bob
I used both an airless spray gun and a brush. I experienced no problems with either. I was advised to stir often as the pigment tends to settle out. The product is not what I called stain back in the 40s, but I suppose the nomenclature has changed over time. ;-0

Applied stain as per Behrs instructions. The stain has a problem curing with staying sticky(see all other reviews with same problem, which Im sure Behr is aware of)) After recommended 72HR cure time. Its been 2 weeks and stain is still sticky, taking on stains from shoes and it gets carried into my house and gets on my wood floors.Behr told me to wash it with warm water and soap and it should solve the problem , guess what it didnt! still sticky.Behrs warranty is a joke as it dont cover labor ,which is 90% of the cost of staining a deck. Absolute complete nightmare. Cant use the deck!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 11 Months. Not 6-8 Years After reading the reviews on Home Depot I decided to try the Behr Semi-transparent deck stain tint base. I chose the chocolate color. I used the stain on a 400 sq ft NEW deck and a 600 sq ft previously stained playset/climbing structure. I allowed the new wood to season for 10 months. Both structures were properly prepared according to the instructions on the back of the can and I used all the recommended Behr products. I stained both structures in the fall of 2015 according to the directions on the back of the can. After staining it took 3 weeks for the product to “cure.” For 3 weeks my children could not use the playset/climbing structure and my family could not use the deck. During these 3 weeks the stain was tacky and would leave visible marks if touched. After the product finally cured it repelled water and worked. This fall of 2016 (only 11 months after application) the stain was bubbling, peeling, flaking, and visible mold was showing. The product only lasted 11 months; 1 of those moths was the “curing/hardening” months. This product did NOT last 6-8 years as advertised.

It is PAINT, not stain! I used it to stain my new, clean, dry cedar privacy fence. I followed the instructions and applied two light coats with a Wagner sprayer and back brushed if it puddled. However, it does not penetrate the wood at all, it is not semi-transparent, and now I am left with 70 feet of "painted" fence!!! The pictures tell the story. Notice on one of them you can see the Behr "paint" on the left side, and on the right side is a different semi-transparent stain that actually penetrates the wood and shows the wood grain. I will be taking my 4 gallons of "paint" back to HD for a full refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deck Makeover At first I was nervous that we would only be able to replace our deck because of the previous products used. The original product was a textured product that is actually in quite of a bind right now due to poor performance. Anyhow, it was an absolute nightmare to remove. After several trash bags full of the chipping paint, our only option was a pressure wash. That still did not do all of the work so we had to have the whole deck sanded. By now Im sure that you can imagine the time this consumed for about 400 sq ft. Finally it was time to stain the deck and we decided to go with semi transparent because the wood actually had some good life to it. The first coat went on and I was not sure that I was loving the color, after a few hours the second coat was applied and BAM! it looked really nice. I will say that it did require an extra gallon but i kind of expected that. It has only been 2 days now but it is looking nice and cant wait to actually be able to use my deck again. Hopefully it holds up for a few years but as of now i dont have much to go off of other than application. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Peels I applied this to two pressure treated pine decks, one 10 years old, the other 1 year old. Both were pressure washed before staining to ensure they were clean. Both had ample time to dry. I applied the stain as directed, in dry cool weather. It remained sticky the entire first summer and attracted ALL of the dirt to stick to it. Now it's already peeling off in places. I am so disappointed. We are moving this summer and this experience has lead me to decide any new decks built at the new house will be made from composite so I don't have to waste money on a stain that looks so awful.

It was a supplement to another brand bought at a different retailer. We mixed it with the 5 gal we had previously purchased. I noticed no ill effects. I put it on with both a airless spray and a brush. Everything worked well. I have no complaints. ;-0 I can not vouch for the long term performance since I only recently applied it to a very old cedar fence.

I don't know how well this will hold up but the solid stain I did to the older fence still looks good after six (6) years. But will all stains, it is like painting with water. It took over four (4) gallons to cover one side of the fence with one coat. The stain was just sucked up quickly into the wood.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hideous bright orange paint This product is not stain - it is paint. We used the Cedar Naturaltone color and now our brand new deck looks absolutely hideous. The color is bright orange and you cannot seen any of the wood pattern through it. I can't wait to see how much it will cost me to hire a professional to fix this awful mess.
