Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use this on a concrete garage floor? 2-part epoxy coating?

Can I use this on my prepped concrete garage floor? I will be finishing it with Epoxyshield. Will this work under a 2-part epoxy coating? Thanks.
Asked by: ThandyMan
I do not think that would be a good idea. I mean, you COULD use it, but the garage floor coating is designed to go onto bare prepared concrete, right? I would be more comfortable using it as intended. This primer could be a weak link between the concrete and the topcoat.

Can this be used as a primer for a brick fireplace?
Asked by: RonC
Hi RonC, Thanks for writing in with your question. We do not recommend our Concrete and Masonry Bonding Primer, (No. 880) on vertical surfaces. This bonding primer is designed to be used with some of our floor coatings. You can use our Multi-Surface Primer and Sealer, (No. 436) instead. Good luck with your project! Regards, Giovanna

Can I use this on pebble concrete pool deck and will it fill in the spaces to make a smooth surface?

Asked by: Parkerjacquelyn
Hi Parkerjacquelyn, Great question! This product can fill cracks up to 1/4 inch, however we actually don't recommend applying it on pebbles or stone surfaces. Sorry about that! For your project I'd recommend asking at The Home Depot for a specialty product. Best of luck with your project!

1-gal. Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't do the job We used this primer under the Epoxy paint for a cement floor that is outdoors and covered by decking on a floor above. All instructions were followed, including roughing up the previous stained floor before applying the primer followed by the epoxy paint. The drying time instructions were all followed. However, a week or so later, it rained and the paint and primer immediately started bubbling up and popping off. You can clearly see the old stain color below (which was also a Home Depot product). So disappointed that all this time and money was spent on a project that looks worse after one week than it did before we started. Would not recommend either of these products to anyone.

This was my second chance I had given to Behr Products, my first was with the Marquee paint that peeled off the wall after two weeks. I followed the instructions of the Primer to the letter. With the floor properly cleaned, etched and water drop test conducted, I rolled the primer onto the concrete, basement floor, with a 3/8 inch nap roller. I let it dry over night and when I walked on it to prep for the Behr Epoxy, the primer was peeling off onto my feet. I reached out to the Behr 1-800 number and spoke with Emanuel . I explained what was going on and of course I was told that it was user error. I was told I should not be walking on it. My question to Emanuel was "how do I paint the Epoxy on the floor, if I can't walk on it"? That quickly changed back to, user error again. I asked for help on how to get the primer off of the floor. Emanuel suggested I pressure wash my basement floor. I explained to him that I would die if I did that. Gas engines are very hazardous indoors! Next, he suggested, "if the floor is peeling that easily, I could sit and peel it off". That seemed a little tedious for 250 Sq feet of floor. In the end, I ended the conversation, because Behr was of no help. Again, this was my SECOND problem with a Behr Paint Product Peeling, I urge you to stay away from all of their products, nothing sticks, even with proper prep and they will say, user error.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I painted a cement patio that was about 40 years old. I wanted to paint the floor and I had used this product before. Put several coats of paint on the floor and it is much smoother and looks clean and new. Thanks for the great paint and bonding primer. I have pressured washed another floor that I used the bonding primer with not problem.

Used on concrete steps and sidewalk blocks - Preparation is KEY! Do not skimp on the prep. Applied with brush (epoxy style) to steps. Horizontal and vertical. No issues with adherence. Application went smoothly and relatively quickly. Four hour dry time was adequate.
