Primer necessary

The product description states that it has great adhesion, but do you not need to apply primer before painting a deck and railing system with this product?
Asked by: Scott
I did not use a primer when I painted pressure treated lumber. As such, one coat produced uneven results. It took 2 full coats with a 24 hour cure in between to get even coverage. If I do it again, a coat of Kilz will go on first.

Can I use this paint for wood surfaces ?

My porch is made with wood
Asked by: Bill
Yes. If it's a wood that bleeds tannins or other stains you will want a sealing coat of primer. Primer is a good idea anyway.

I have a wood porch floor that needs painting . Do I need to prime the floor first before I paint it ?

Asked by: Vetteman
If you are planning to use this Behr paint, don't bother because it will begin to peel within a couple of months whether you prime or not.

1-gal. Deep Base Low-Lustre Porch and Patio Floor Paint is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 255.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect For Concrete Basement Floor Paint I live in NJ and cold climate, we just bought house which is fairly 8 to 10 years old with concrete floor basement. We painted floor with this paint and came out really good. First used #880 primer and then paint with roller and apply 2 coats on floor. It took about 2 to 3 days for complete drying after second coat. It has really good coverage but totally depend on how rought is your concrete surface. Mine is pretty smooth concrete surface. O have 900 Sq, ft basemnet and It took 1 gallon for primer (1 coat) and 3 gallon paint (2 coat). -Hiren Patel

Once finished it looked great, However, despite the fact I spent a long time properly preparing the previously painted concrete surface, after just a few days the finish is already showing signs of wear, chipping and pealing in spots. So naturally I am a bit disappointed, and I am typically a fan of Behr products. The idea of doing this all over again in a short period of time has be feeling pretty let down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't do this to yourself. I used this on the concrete floor of my screened-in porch. Someone at Home Depot assured me it wouldn't require a primer. I put down two coats and gave it a few weeks to dry before moving furniture in. And now there are scratches everywhere. Set down and pick up a piece of lightweight furniture? Scratch. Walk on it in hard-soled shoes? Scratch. Look at it the wrong way? Scratch. I can't imagine using this outside and expecting it to stand up to the elements. Now all I can do is put down rugs and look for a better product to repaint with. Whatever it is, it won't be made by Behr and I won't be buying it from Home Depot.

I got two colors, one lighter and one darker. I liked that the darker color only took two coats to get full coverage. The lighter color took 3 and could possibly use 4 in some areas. I did not expect that especially since I primed. The feel of the paint is great, not slick which is exactly what you want for stairs. I would definitely use this product again.

It covered only about 160 square feet. I had to run back to Home Depot for another bucket to finish my project. Please inform manufacturer to make it realistic and put a range like 150 sq and 200 sq.
