I used the Behr Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer No. 880. SKU 250914. prior to applying the Concrete Stain on a patio. Read my review for Behr Concrete Stain, Lucky7 with photos. I wanted to be 100 percent sure of a one time application with long lasting durability.

Hello!
Thank you for your question!
The only time primer is required is when this stain is applied to bare concrete.
The primer they recommend is Behr Bonding Primer: http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-1-gal-Concrete-Masonry-Bonding-Primer-88001/100129649

For a satin finish - BEHR PREMIUM 1-Part concrete & Garage Floor Coating.
For a low lustre finish - BEHR PREMIUM Porch & Patio Floor Paint.
For a flat finish - BEHR PREMIUM Solid Color Concrete Stain.
All three are excellent alternatives for coating your concrete patio. Also if you would like to remove the overspray, we would suggest a product such as BEHR PREMIUM No 992 Paint Stripper. Please follow all back label instructions to ensure proper surface preparation and application.

Hi, I am very pleased with the results from recently finished job using Solid Color Concrete Stain after first applying Concrete Primer, clear 880. My concrete was fairly stain free before I began,. You might try removing the paint over spray with a high pressure sprayer but they will also remove the very top of the concrete and leave it grainy.

I dont recommend it for the garage if you are planning to park a car on it, the stain will come off in some spot, even with the sealer.

The can says 400 square feet per gallon. The coverage of the first coat on old concrete will be about half that. I would use a couple coast. Coverage of the second coat will likely be closer to 400/sq. ft. coast

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by need two coats remember, always need two coats mimimun. very important, don.'t use for big areas April 18, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not a true stain. It is really a paint.... It was easy to apply. However, it is not a true stain. A stain does just that...stains, or is absorbed, into the surface you are staining. Paint, such as this product, just covers the surface. And how do i know that? After my full third day, I hosed down the surface with regular hose flow. I did not power wash. And to my dismay, a small 2" x 2" area came off. My concrete has never been painted and is 17 years cured. This product, because it is already peeling, seems ok for a patio or sidewalk. And because of that, I rated it fair. But not convinced for a driveway. I hate to think what is going to happen when I roll my truck through it in two weeks. I want a product that works relatively quick. This product has too much wait time. July 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CONCRETE STAIN LOOKS GREAT ON PATIO AND WITH LESS SUN GLARE. I applied the Behr Concrete Primer #880 first then applied this Behr Concrete Stain tint base white #800 on my 2 patios. The job was easy and painless. I used paint pads on extensions for both. It's been 2 months and the adhesion of the stain looks good and the color looks great. Job Background: the covered patio is 38 years old and the uncovered patio is 4 years old. Neither was discolored by old stains. August 21, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not for driveways I spent so much time on my driveway removing old paint, cleaning and etching. After a long time waiting for the rain to stop to paint my new driveway, I apply this stain like six gallon of this product, I wait for it to dry and apply a second coat because the color was not strong, also nothing like the catalog color choices, but because I choosed a custom color and already had the six gallon unreturnable. There was not rain for about a week, and I wanted to give it extra time for it to cure or dry. Then it started raining, i didnt park on my driveway for about a month, until the raining stop and then I apply the sealer. Everything was perfect until a car was park on the driveway, it doesnt resist hot tires like it mention. I have a lot of white spot now everywhere. Is not only the money but the time invested and it was worthless, very dissapointed. I recommend this product only for patios, the gentleman in homedepot recommend me the incorrect product, i think homedepot should train them better, not only to read labels but to have knowledge of their products. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent concrete stain for exterior basement I bought this to stain our exterior basement walls which are concrete blocks coated with a layer of plaster "mud" which is basically concrete stucco. While the stucco helped to cover up the concrete block, there were so many discolorations across the surface of the stucco that it just didn't look good (see before and after pics attached). So I bought both the Behr Concrete Bonding Primer No. 880 and applied one coat of it, then waited about 18 hours and applied the stain. To give some contrast to our house, I opted to do a computerized color-matching of one of the samples in the store...slate gray #6695. The result is absolutely amazing! This really goes well with our gray siding and black/gray shingles. The stain went on well and we only needed one gallon. I highly recommend! June 27, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by terrible This stain comes up with the hot tires and it looks terrible. Tried contacting Behr no o0ne returns my call tried contac ting Home Depot the4y gave me a couple different numbers but no one called me back I am really disgusted with Behr and Home depot. terrible productr January 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by beautiful coverage This completely transformed the appearance of our driveway. It covered up discolored and old concrete, making it look brand new. It definitely refreshed the look of our home. I would highly recommend this product for new and old concrete. We had an area of older concrete on the driveway that fed into newer concrete. After applying the stain they look uniform. We used the Santa Fe color and it was very rich and vibrant. Also, clean up and application was very easy. February 9, 2013
