Can this product be used for interior applications?

...such as wooden tables, chairs, benches, shutters?
Asked by: Servant
Hello, Great question. We would actually not recommend our Solid Color Stain or any of our exterior wood stains for interior applications. Exterior and interior coatings contain chemicals to inhibit the growth of mildew on the coating. The amount of mildewcide in an exterior product usually exceeds the limits allowable for use inside. Best wishes, Kevin

I have always used Behr paint and have always had good experiences with their other products, so I did not hesitate to purchase this. I had a new porch and front steps on my elevated home and they were built with treated pine. I waited about 6 months to ensure they were completely dry and ready for a finish. Then I thoroughly pressure washed all the surfaces, waited another few days to completely dry, then applied 2 coats of this product per the instructions. That was last year at this time, and this "stain" is pealing and very scratched up now. It doesn't even seem like stain. It just seems like regular paint. How does stain peel? It seems that it would have actually stained the wood, not just put top coat on it. I sanded all peeling areas and pressure washed again, and then just applied 2 new coats of this product simply because I still had some left. I'll see how long this treatment lasts, and then I'll redo it with a better solution. On the plus side, this stuff goes on well and looks great right after application.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from False labeling. This is NOT 10 Years. More like 2 years at the most. All I ever buy is Behr ..... False labeling. This is NOT 10 Years. More like 2 years at the most. All I ever buy is Behr ... nothing but. Very disappointed in this product. I would consider this more like paint, not stain. Just like other users, I pressure washed, sanded and prepared the deck. It looked great initially. But, after 2 seasons, it is faded and has started to crack and peel. To label and claim a product as 10 years, they would had to have developed and applied this back in 2006. Hmmm ... about that?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Has A Serious Issue I have purchased 50 or so gallons of this product over the last 7 years to weather proof our home on Hatteras Island, NC. My experience has been that vertical applications hold up very well, but horizontal applications do not fare nearly as well, requiring repainting every 2-3 years. The product does not stain treated exterior lumber, rather it forms a coating on top of the wood surface, even when heavily sanded. The hard rain and the marine climate, plus staining of the paint by leaves and soil residue, deteriorates the surface and the coating peels off. This does not happen on vertical surfaces, even using the same lumber. And this product is expensive in the iniitial purchase, not to mention the frequent applications. I am now considering using a UV resistant epoxy paint instead for better adhesion. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old fence looks new again!! We had a fence that was in decent shape structure wise but the color was so faded and gray it made the whole backyard look gross. I wanted to stain it, and found this product - it goes on like paint and covered the fence perfectly with a sprayer. We used the dark chocolate color on the fence. Looks amazing and brand new. Would recommend to anyone!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best stain / wood sealer I've used I have gone through 9 gallons painting old, dried, cracking fences that have been neglected for years. I can definitely see a major improvement to the wood after being sealed and treated with this stain/sealer. The completed sections look so different from the untreated sections. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still going strong Behr Premium was applied to a 25 year old deck. This was the first solid color stain applied. Previous semi trans stains were applied every three to five years. The Behr Premium has been on for four years and still is solid, not pealing and washes clean with a hose. Very pleased with this product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This 10 year paint lasts 1 year maybe 2 before it needs to be redone on deck floor. This 10 year paint lasts 1 year maybe 2 before it needs to be redone on deck floor. I had this paint professionally applied on a deck that gets average use in the summertime. 4 parties a year.. Memorial day, Labor day and 2 or so cocktail parties a summer. The deck looked good the first year summer (the paint was applied that spring). Over that winter the deck floor paint started chipping and pealing. By the time the second summer started the deck needed to be redone. However I put off redoing the deck that year. Now its the spring of 3rd year and the deck is missing at lease 20% of the over 625sq feet of floor and horizontal railing coverage due to chipping and pealing. Just know if you use this paint you will have to redo your deck every other year. If you want the deck to look good every year you will have to redo the deck every year.
