Customer Questions & Answers

Primer necessary

The product description states that it has great adhesion, but do you not need to apply primer before painting a deck and railing system with this product?
Asked by: Scott
I did not use a primer when I painted pressure treated lumber. As such, one coat produced uneven results. It took 2 full coats with a 24 hour cure in between to get even coverage. If I do it again, a coat of Kilz will go on first.

No more than any other paint. Use wood filler, then paint.

Jack, I cannot say this is specifically for a basement, however, I used the porch and patio paint in my basement. It is holding up very well.

Can I use this paint for wood surfaces ?

My porch is made with wood
Asked by: Bill
Yes. If it's a wood that bleeds tannins or other stains you will want a sealing coat of primer. Primer is a good idea anyway.

I couldn't find flooring that I liked well enough for my small bathroom, so I opted to paint over the old sheet vinyl. It covered beautifully in two coats. Plus, I painted a design over it that makes the room seem spacey. It's been a month, and no signs of any problems. I expect it to hold up quite well until I find flooring I like better -- and that may never happen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old Sheet Vinyl Floor Fix After cleaning the floor withTSP, I applied two coats of primer, two coats of Behr Porch and Patio floor paint in silver gray low lustre, and one coat of the ultra white gloss porch and patio floor paint stenciled on top. I had to order the paint online to get these colors and finishes. The paint was easy to apply with rollers and had little odor. I followed the guidelines for drying times. You can recoat after 4-6 hours depending on climate and need to wait 72 hours before normal use. I thought this would be a good interim fix until it is time to install a new floor. I am very satisfied with results.

The problem is that I repainted half of my basement with a can of Behr porch and floor paint from several years ago and went to buy more to finish and it's no longer sold in store. So I typed in the four digit code online and was given this as the ONLY result. The code is different but the brand and color name (silver gray) and type of paint are the same. As I finished my work and the paint dried I realized the COLORS DON"T MATCH!!! I now have a basement floor with two different tones of gray!! I'm not starting over from scratch so this is going to have to do for years to come until I repaint it with all ONE color! Very disappointed!

I ordered two gallons on line, because the store no longer carried the "Silver Gray" color. When I painted my floor, the colors did not match, what was supposed to be a "touch up" product, turned into an entire paint job. The paint is good, I'll buy it again, however I am disappointed the colors did not match.

I used to be a diehard Behr paint fan, but it seems like ever since the new VOC formulations 5 or so years ago the durability is just awful. I bought Glidden wall paint last time, and I think I’ll stick with that. It’s about half the price and is at least as good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not do the job! I wanted to paint our back concrete patio and had high hopes for this product. My wife picked the color and I applied it according to directions. I put down one coat and started on a second coat but you couldn't see any trace of the paint so I quit. I won't use this paint again.

HOLDING WELL SO FAR BUT ONLY BEEN PAINTED A COUPLE OF WEEKS. I DID NOT NEED TO DO A SECOND COAT BUT IT WAS THE EASIEST PART OF THE JOB. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. GOING TO REDO THE FRONT DECK AND WILL BE BACK FOR MORE!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old cement patio I have used BEHR products in the past and have experienced good quality and value when it is BEHR paint. You do hear some complaints from few people regarding quality and coverage, but remember, you usually get what you pay for. This includes paint, however I have no complaints with BEHR paint and this includes Porch & Patio Floor Paint I used it on our old worn out cement patio. I must say that today a few weeks later I am still pleased with the coverage and the ability of the paint. We do run a Day Care at our home and believe me, the patio gets some serious workout, so we will see about how it holds up. After this Michigan winter, and a full year of Day Care. It does go on a little thick, and I did prime it with some holding paint so the contact would be strong. The patio is about 14x10 and I used three gallons of paint, using a roller and a brush where necessary. Because of the roughness in the cement, would do it again for the price, and also the quality of BEHR. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
