Great product. Used this semi transparent stain on our deck railing. It last about 2-3 years in our North Idaho climate. Good coverage and stain stays suspended in carrier if you stir every 30-45 minutes. Stain in early morning or cool weather as stain dries quickly and results are more even when stain is allowed to dry slowly. Price seemed higher than I remembered from 3 years ago ($33/gal) but still a good value.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by CaliforniaDIYer Coats wood like paint, takes over a week to dry.
I purchased this "premium" product to put on my 3 year old construction heart redwood deck based on positive reviews and the display at my local Home Depot and have been extremely disappointed in the quality and appearance of the finished product. The stain does not go on evenly, does not penetrate the wood at all, and remains tacky and unpleasant feeling far past the 72 hour cure time listed on the can.
Before applying the stain I used the Behr Premium 1-gal. Wood Stain and Finish Stripper, then used the Behr Premium 1-gal. All-In-One Wood Cleaner, and followed up by using an orbital sander to lightly sand the surface to prep it for the stain. I did everything according to the instructions on the bottles and used all Behr Premium products because I wanted to do it right and not skip any steps.
I applied the stain using a high-quality Home Depot-branded roller and used Shur-Line foam pads for touch-up and small areas where the roller could not reach. I applied two coats of the stain, early in the morning and in the late afternoon, using a digital surface-read thermometer to make sure that the deck surface was within the appropriate temperature range for applying the stain.
The finished product is AWFUL. Even after doing all the suggested prep work using all Behr Premium products the "stain" applies unevenly and sits on top of the wood like a latex paint. It has been more than 5 days of sunny Summer weather since I applied the last coat and the deck is still tacky to the touch and will not fully dry.
I absolutely DO NOT recommend this product, and would not suggest ANY of the Behr Premium deck products. Since it did not penetrate the wood and is still tacky after a week I expect it to start peeling within 1-2 years and need replacement far ahead of the "6 Year Satisfaction Guarantee."

Not sure how long it's gonna last but 4 coats in the color is still uneven I've gone through 3 types of brushes a stain mitt and a roller uneven and takes about a week to stop being tacky when you walk on it though that may be due to the current heat and humidity conditions but getting the color even is impossible every where your application runs over w prior stroke the color depth doubles unless you tape each section as you go I don't see how to avoid that and the coverage sucks!

I love this product. You do need to on two coats but it is excellent.

I wish I had read some of the reviews before choosing this color & brand. I totally agree with others that the color has an orange tint to it. Also agree that it doesn't penetrate the wood as a stain should, but simply coats the wood like a latex paint. So disappointing, spent the entire weekend power washing & staining my two decks. I hate it so much that now I'll have to use a solid color deck stain just to cover up this eye sore! Another weekend shot!

From the name and the sample I assumed I would be painting my porch I shade of red But it went on Laurens it also took more than a week to completely dry in my porch felt tacky the whole time. I'm not in love with the color but am not displeased enough to restrain the porch. This product does not cover as well as it states. What should have taken less than 2 gallons required 4. It also did not go on evenly. Some portions of my deck are a different texture and color. It almost looks chalky in spots.

I bought the 6-8 year stain because it is the best, but I forgot that the three to five year stuff is just as good for fence staining. If you are staining a rustic fence you can use the 3 to 5 year stain and it will age gracefully! I know because I did just that in Colorado years ago. That 3-5 year stain looked good for about 6 or 7 years and when I stained my fence seven years later it still looked better than all my neighbors before I stained it. I stained it again because I was selling the house. So on rustic fences it lasts and lasts and lasts.

I put one coat of this product on raw cedar wood lawn edging, and was horrified at the color. Although it is "semi-transparent", it completely covered the natural wood color in one coat. Since it is non-refundable, I am stuck with a gallon of high-quality, Orange weatherproofing stain.
