will this work on pressure treated lumber?

i built a grill gazebo/pergola and used 4x4 and 1x6 pressure treated lumber. Do i have to make sure that the lumber has completely dried from the treatment before applying any stain or paint (like they say on the internet)?
Asked by: victor
Yes, the stain does work on pressure treated wood.

Will Behr adhere to previous coats of paint / stain on wooden deck?

I have an aging deck that has a 4 year-old coat of Thompson's on it [still looking good on vertical posts and rails]... and a coat of RustOleum textured deck restore on the floor of the deck - that is peeling. I have power washed the deck and reached the bare wood in most areas of the floor, but there are still some spots on the grain that won't give up the previous stains. The rails still have the original coat of Thompsons, and it still looks good. Will this product cover and adhere to all prior finishes, or will I need to remove all previous applications of paint and stain?
Asked by: TomGirl
Hello TomGirl, Great question! Complete removal of the previous coating is an option, but our wood stain can be applied over the intact existing coating. You would just need to remove whatever's loose, sand any frayed edges of the old coating smooth, clean the whole surface (bare wood and old coating alike), and then apply the stain. Best wishes for your project!

Traction. Is this product safe to use where positive traction is requireda (ie: foot traffic, bicycles, etc)?

Asked by: VC
Hello VC, Thanks for your question. This product has been designed to withstand heavy foot traffic and the movement of furniture (for example, a BBQ party on a stained deck), so it's pretty durable. However, we don't have testing to support bicycles rolling over the coating. If doing so, you may need to do periodic touchups. Hope this helps. -Joshua

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and great results for an ugly deck I read many reviews and advice on using this or that stain. Behr stainds were often NOT recommended and at first scared me off. However, my deck is nearly 20 years old, the last time stained a long time ago, and I found an old can of the Behr stain in the garage, so decided to go with both the behr deck cleaner and then stain, despite many people advising, both in person and on websites that I HAD to strip off the old stuff first. Was not something I wanted to deal with! I cleaned the deck with the deck cleaner..... and then it rained for about three weeks so I couldn't stain. I did in that time do a fair bit of scraping off loose stain and a little sanding, but not to bare wood by any means. Finally two sunny days in a row! I quickly got that stuff on there. With a 4 inch deck brush, it only took about two hrs for 200 sq ft deck. Went on super easy. A few weeks later and still looks great! If it starts to peel like others warned, I will update, but as of now I am totally satistied. Gettysburgh blue is a nice bright blue. No way was my old pressure treated wood ever going to look nice as wood again, so I went with a happy color (reminds me of decks at the beach!). Use without fear! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Deck Stain/Sealant Ever! I bought this product to refinish my deck after wasting my time using more expensive products out there, which peeled up after one year. I used two brushed-on coats on my deck. Excellent as a sealer. Smoothed out all splintered areas. Smooth finish and water repellant. Looks amazing. I need to look no further for the best....I found it!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Color and Easy Application I chose the Tugboat solid-color stain from the BEHR Premium Wood Coatings line when I needed to stain my deck. I’d read a lot online that you have to be really careful with stains because they can leave “lap marks,” but I found that the solid stain color was incredibly forgiving and I didn’t have a problem with it at all. It went on smoothly and dried pretty quickly, leaving the wood a beautiful chocolate-y brown hue. Within 24 hours, you can start walking on the deck (light traffic only is recommended) and by 72 hours, it’s fully cured. I worked on it a couple hours a day over a few days, working in the morning before it got too hot (and the bugs came out!), and it proved to be a really straightforward DIY project that I was able to complete all on my own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't make it through one winter Bought this product, as well as the pre-washes. Followed all of the instructions for washing, drying, and coats to a T. After our first winter, spring comes around and now everything is peeling. It also warped many of our boards. I would not recommend. 10 years must really be a stretch, as we didn't even make it 10 months... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
