i built a grill gazebo/pergola and used 4x4 and 1x6 pressure treated lumber. Do i have to make sure that the lumber has completely dried from the treatment before applying any stain or paint (like they say on the internet)?

Thanks for the question! Yes, Behr Solid Colored Wood Stains work great on pressure treated lumber. Newly, pressure treated wood should be allowed 6-8 weeks to fully cure before staining the wood. Hi Marc,
Yes, our Solid Color Weatherproofing All-In-One Stain & Sealer can be applied on top of the existing stain. This product can be applied on top of water or oil-based paints and stains, as long as they’re in good condition.
Good luck with your project!

Will Behr adhere to previous coats of paint / stain on wooden deck?

I have an aging deck that has a 4 year-old coat of Thompson's on it [still looking good on vertical posts and rails]... and a coat of RustOleum textured deck restore on the floor of the deck - that is peeling.

I have power washed the deck and reached the bare wood in most areas of the floor, but there are still some spots on the grain that won't give up the previous stains.

The rails still have the original coat of Thompsons, and it still looks good.

Will this product cover and adhere to all prior finishes, or will I need to remove all previous applications of paint and stain?

Answer:
Hello TomGirl,
Great question! Complete removal of the previous coating is an option, but our wood stain can be applied over the intact existing coating. You would just need to remove whatever's loose, sand any frayed edges of the old coating smooth, clean the whole surface (bare wood and old coating alike), and then apply the stain.
Best wishes for your project!

Answer:
Hello VC,
Thanks for your question. This product has been designed to withstand heavy foot traffic and the movement of furniture (for example, a BBQ party on a stained deck), so it's pretty durable. However, we don't have testing to support bicycles rolling over the coating. If doing so, you may need to do periodic touchups. Hope this helps.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product quality Ease of application & coverage are great! Product arrived ahead of time. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Contractors Beware Contractors and Do-It-Yourselfers: If you use this product DO NOT clean brushes or rollers on grassy areas. It kills the grass! Our home was done last year by a contractor and we have huge portions of grass that's dead and Home Depots says they are not responsible. Our contractor said Home Depot never told them this product is toxic to grass. The house looks good, but our lawn is a mess! May 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Job on Pergola and Deck I have used this product several times and have found it to be easy to use and prov ides good coverage. I use the Pinto White on my Pergola and Cedar on my Deck. Solid colors do a wonderful job of covering wood surfaces and last for quite a while. Recommend using this product. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't make it through one winter Bought this product, as well as the pre-washes. Followed all of the instructions for washing, drying, and coats to a T. After our first winter, spring comes around and now everything is peeling. It also warped many of our boards. I would not recommend. 10 years must really be a stretch, as we didn't even make it 10 months... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Premium Solid Deck Stain Purchased 5 gallons of California Rustic Premium Deck Stain and applied 2 weeks ago. Application is very easy. Look is great and if history is a guide I should get 10+ years before having to re-stain. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Still going strong Behr Premium was applied to a 25 year old deck. This was the first solid color stain applied. Previous semi trans stains were applied every three to five years. The Behr Premium has been on for four years and still is solid, not pealing and washes clean with a hose. Very pleased with this product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't have to replace 10+ year old fence and deck We were ready to replace our fence and deck until we got an estimate of cost. We decided to try power-washing and staining instead. We are extremely pleased with the results! It looks like we got a brand new deck and fence! This stain was easy to apply. I just used a stain paint brush for the deck (so I could get between the boards) and used both a brush and roller for the fence. We went with the chocolate transparent on the fence and chocolate solid on the deck. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
