My wife hates the color!

She says it's "orange". Lucky me, I've only done the 20 feet of spindles and rails on the lower patio. Can I put another color over this now, like "coffee" or similar. Will I get the same weatherproofing, sealing benefit? Will it stick? Thanks for the help.

Answer:
Hello Stuck,
Sorry to hear how your wife hates the color. But yes, you can certainly topcoat the Redwood color with another coat of a different color. It's a self-priming solid color finish, so it'll cover the orange look underneath and will adhere since the stain base is the same formulation.
Well wishes for your project!

We put two coats on our posts and side boards, so I see no issue with a second coat of a different color. But of course you can always double check and call or email the company from information on the can?

I don't see why not. Unlike some stains that are only intended for non traffic surfaces (such as fences, etc.), this finish can be used on decks. If it can hold up to foot traffic on a deck, it should be good for a playset.

Hi Tuly. If the wood surface is properly prepared and completely dry, you can apply 2 thin coats of our Behr Premium Solid Color Weatherproofing All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer. Good luck with your project!

I just wrote a review, but I applied this when it was supposed to rain 24 hours later. It ended up raining about 7 hours later. My deck shows no signs of issues a week later. Mine was dry to the touch in 40 minutes.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 117 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Color is not true No complaints on the quality of the product. Goes on smooth and covers very well. Maybe a little too well for some. This IS their “solid color” version. It looks a bit more like paint than stain. We live in Georgia and it was HOT this weekend. The can says use only up to 90 degrees. Believe them. This is a fast drying product (advantage), but when the temp goes over 90 your brushes, pads, paint trays, etc. will start to dry up. Plan your day accordingly. My only complaint is the color. Not true to any of their illustrations. Not as shown on the web page and not as shown on the sales brochure I picked up. Attached is a picture of our completed railing around the lower patio. Lucky me I started here instead of on our large, elevated deck. Finished a quarter of it and wife said, “It’s ORANGE”. Next quarter, she said “It’s OK, I guess”. Third quarter, “It’s OK, I guess”. Finished it and she said, “No, I hate it. It’s ORANGE!”. The picture is taken at noon, camera in the shade, shooting into the sunny railing. The picture is true to color. This color is NOT as Behr shows it. May 31, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by So disappointed! We used this product on our new deck last year. It is know peeling ion all the traffic areas. We brought this because it states 10 years on decks! So much for that! Very, very disappointed! May 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Purchase!! This product is fantastic! We recently purchased a house with over 1000 sq ft of deck, unfortunately due to the price, we have had to split it up to finish. But we love it! April 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New Wood and Old Wood Both Look Great I recently used this to stain my new construction deck, but also had a walkway that was old, previously-stained wood. They both look like new now. Stain goes on easily, coverage is great, and cleanup is easy too, since it is water-based. The 10 year warranty is a major plus, since I am a homeowner and do not want to stain every 2-3 years. April 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best stain I have ever used, A+A+ I have tried stains in the past just to find that in two years or so that the decks would need to be re-stained. I found this product at my local Home depot store and read the reviews that were highly talked about. So I thought I would give it a try. I am very pleased with the results, I don't have pictures to post but WOW I am very pleased at how it turned out. We live in the Midwest and have had snow and cold weather on it and it looks just like it did in the summer when it was applied. I have used interior and exterior paints by Behr and I will not use anything else but there products. February 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This deck looks and feels brand new!! I have a 20 year old green treated deck that is approximately 1200 sq feet. It was very weathered and faded with tree sap, mildew and age. I first power washed to remove all of the tree sap and mildew. Then sanded a few rough horizontal surfaces. Then replaced a few warped and/or twisted floor planks. I then applied the first and second coats of Behr Premium Solid color stain with a power roller. The results were absolutely amazing! The deck looks practically brand new! Please see the 2 attached pictures. I'm so proud of the results! February 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, but time will tell. It applied easily to our old deck support posts, with little or no drips. Dry mountain air did cause it to dry quickly on the brush however, so quick working, and covering unused portion constantly was necessary. REally unhappy with the rebate program however. Since I purchased it on line and had it delivered, there was no register receipt and dealing with a 3rd party rebate distributor has been a nightmare and time waster. Not sure we will ever get the 10 dollar a gallon rebate. October 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy application, good coverage We are building a pool cabana, and have used the solid stain on all painted surfaces. Painted the ceiling white with two coats, on a thin wooden sheathing material. The siding is rough cedar, which really benefits from the thin consistency of this product - it flows more easily into the rough texture than a thicker product would. Don't let the thin consistency fool you, this stain provides great color and coverage! February 21, 2016
