Customer Questions & Answers

Ho a many Sq ft does one gallon typically cover?

Asked by: Jonesey
Hi Jonesey! Thanks for your question. One gallon of Semi-Transparent Wood Stain will cover anywhere from 250 to 300 square feet for the first coat (depending on the porosity of the surface). The second coat on the other hand, will go further (500-600 sq ft). I hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

Can I use this deck stain to stain my kitchen cabinets that are unfinished

Asked by: Austin
Hi Austin, Thanks for writing in with your question. Our Semi-Transparent Weatherproofing Wood Stain, (No. 5077) is an exterior stain and I don't recommend using for your kitchen cabinets. I suggest checking with your local store for a product recommendation. Have a nice day! Regards, Giovanna

Can I put this stain on previously painted wood?

The paint is not peeling and would just need to be cleaned.
Asked by: beach
Dear beach, BEHR Premium Semi-Transparent Weatherproofing All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer is a water based stain formulated for properly prepared new to slightly weathered, UNSEALED exterior wood surfaces. If your current wood surface/coating is cleaned and in sound condition, you can apply two coats of our BEHR Premium Solid Color Weatherproofing All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer to cover up the old coating. Please follow all label instructions.

Customer Reviews

1-gal. #ST-210 Ultra Pure White Semi-Transparent Waterproofing Stain and Sealer is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 104.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deck Makeover At first I was nervous that we would only be able to replace our deck because of the previous products used. The original product was a textured product that is actually in quite of a bind right now due to poor performance. Anyhow, it was an absolute nightmare to remove. After several trash bags full of the chipping paint, our only option was a pressure wash. That still did not do all of the work so we had to have the whole deck sanded. By now Im sure that you can imagine the time this consumed for about 400 sq ft. Finally it was time to stain the deck and we decided to go with semi transparent because the wood actually had some good life to it. The first coat went on and I was not sure that I was loving the color, after a few hours the second coat was applied and BAM! it looked really nice. I will say that it did require an extra gallon but i kind of expected that. It has only been 2 days now but it is looking nice and cant wait to actually be able to use my deck again. Hopefully it holds up for a few years but as of now i dont have much to go off of other than application. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks Brand NEW !! We stained our play-scape and patio cover with BEHR Chocolate semi-transparnet stain. Both are 17 years old and needed serious attention. The stain has given a fresh look to our backyard and the play-scape and patio look brand new! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 11 Months. Not 6-8 Years After reading the reviews on Home Depot I decided to try the Behr Semi-transparent deck stain tint base. I chose the chocolate color. I used the stain on a 400 sq ft NEW deck and a 600 sq ft previously stained playset/climbing structure. I allowed the new wood to season for 10 months. Both structures were properly prepared according to the instructions on the back of the can and I used all the recommended Behr products. I stained both structures in the fall of 2015 according to the directions on the back of the can. After staining it took 3 weeks for the product to “cure.” For 3 weeks my children could not use the playset/climbing structure and my family could not use the deck. During these 3 weeks the stain was tacky and would leave visible marks if touched. After the product finally cured it repelled water and worked. This fall of 2016 (only 11 months after application) the stain was bubbling, peeling, flaking, and visible mold was showing. The product only lasted 11 months; 1 of those moths was the “curing/hardening” months. This product did NOT last 6-8 years as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product We used this on our deck, that is about 4 years old, and it really made it look great. It was so nice that we did an old creosote retaining wall and it looks like new. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
