Is your Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain suitable for stucco wall?

Asked by: Anonymous
The Behr response to your question says that it is not for vertical applications, yet the product description on the Home Depot webpage states, "Ideal for interior and exterior, horizontal and vertical surfaces".

Why are so many people saying this Product is NOT a Stain and is a Paint when the picture and description clearly reads Stain? Which is it ????

Asked by: CuriousGeorge
Because sometimes after its applied it looks painted and not stained.

I have attempted to pressure wash old paint off my patio and have about 95% of the old paint removed.

The patio had a couple of layers of red and green paint on it. Most of the surface is back down to the concrete, but there are still spots where the paint has not be 100% removed. Most are small drops, some are larger. Is the Decorative Concrete Dye kit appropriate for this surface? I was hoping to use the Desert Oasis NO. 862. Thanks!

Wish I had read the Behr answer before doing my covered patio floor. We've spent hundreds of dollars and time sanding and staining and sealing. Left town, got heavy rain that pooled and the floor is ruined -- bubbles, chips, and color stains. We're now starting over again. Think of this product like a paint product -- not a stain product.

English brick is Home Depot orange. It is hard to scrub off after 5 minutes. I think mixing the rest of the gallon with water in my sprayer may actually give me a light stain. Through, in this orange color. Not what I wanted I got the 5 x 5 starter area down to a stain after scrubbing. I wish they would add more iron oxide and less mud color. Also, perhaps it should be something you add water to. Way to much work! It should go on and look great!

Seem to come out good. Flat sheen that penetrated into the concrete. Now a month later I bought 5 gallons of the same product and color. Did all the right steps as before. Now this time it came out glossy and didn't penetrate the concrete. Looks like paint this time and not stain. I'm really bummed out. I was hoping the the product would be consistent. Waste of time and money.

Looks great the first season, not bad the next season and redid it basically 2 years after the initial application because of peeling. First time I power washed, this time I used concrete cleaner because I wanted to layer on what was already there. Did not use any sealer afterwards, but am considering it this time around. Highlights: 1. Used a brush for the edges of the pool and the outside edges of the concrete. Those held up well, much better than the rolled on centers. However that would take an extreme amount of time and stain to brush my entire area. 2. Don't drag furniture on your stained concrete... 3. Dries quickly 4. For reference my pool is 12x24' and I needed 4 gallons the first time and 2 1/2 gallons the second time to stain my area. 5. Total staining time was just under 5 hours without cleaning and prep. 6. My concrete was 20 years old when stained and it really gave it a fresh look. Only grievance is that I will be doing this project every other year for the rest of my life...

We were lazy and did not pressure wash the pool area first and used a roller brush to apply. We first tested a small area to make sure that the color was what we wanted and that it would adhere to our concrete. Fortunately, our concrete had not had any sealer on it for quite some time so it stuck to it very easily. We used the behr wet look sealer over top. I would have given this 5 starts but I felt like a gallon really did not go very far at all. I know that concrete is porous, but perhaps a little lower of price would make this product more loveable. Sometimes I think you are just paying for a brand name.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this concrete stain! Transformed an ugly basement floor into a beauty! I love the new look! Used one of the reviews (Thanks, BellaBee) as a guide, and prepped first, then rag-rolled colors on. Besides using Loden, Warm Shale, and Chicory, I also used Water Stone and Dark Charcoal. It's important to note there are no specks in the paint as the samples show. Applied the Wet-Look Sealer which makes the floor shine and is impervious to scratching. I've slid heavy furniture around, with no scratch marks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than acid stain. This is a great product. If you are creative you can make your concrete look like natural stone. You have to take multiple colors, starting with a lighter color as a base then add darker colors with a sponge. You can make veins and ridges that look like natural stone. finish with a tooth brush and sprinkle black stain at the last by putting some black on the tooth brush then flick on to make tiny black spots.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I hate this product Yes I skimped on value, instead of buying acid stain, I went with the Behr Semi-Transparent Stain. I stained all the floors in my house with it; I love the color, but almost immediately it started peeling. Now after living on the floor for three months it looks pitiful. Yes, I followed all instructions and yet it didn't matter. I have over 25yrs experience in painting and construction and in those years I have used products that didn't live up to what it said it would do and this is one of them. I will never use this again for my personal use or for any customer. I will also steer anyone I see away from this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Prep and Prime I've been a floor coating contractor for over 40 years. This product will perform as promoted, but you MUST follow all the directions re. prep and priming to avail yourself of the advertised properties. In addition I would recommend a clear coat for maximum splash and spill protections. I get the best results applying with an HVLP gun, and the results can be FANTASTIC!!!
