I stained a new deck in the summer of 2016 with this product and it is already peeling. Very dissatisfied! I used Cabot stain in the past but my deck builder recommended Behr. I'm going back to Cabot.

I used this stain about two years ago, on new timbers on a long retaining wall. Behr stain was recommended by the contractor who built the wall. The stain is holding up beautifully. The horizontal surface on the top of the wall now has mildew that needs to be cleaned, but that is to be expected on any outdoor surface. The vertical timbers look as good as they did when freshly stained. Note that I did prep the wall exactly following the instructions on the stain, using Behr #63 Wood Cleaner and applying two coats of stain. I doubt you can expect great results without prepping properly. I think the Behr stain did a better job than the Sherwin William stain I used on the deck.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Emchj didn't last a year
I had a new cedar deck built on the back of my house and I waited a few months for it to cure in the environment. After a few months i cleaned the deck with their deck cleaner and applied the stain. At first it looked great,. After a Chicago winter at the start of Spring it started to peel. Now at the end of June significant portions of this stain are peeling off and I am having to plan to pressure wash it off and apply another brand. Very dissapointed.

Honestly, I've used this for many years and swear by it! I would not use it for a deck surface, but my house is natural cedar log with cedar board trim. It's the trim on the house, but also on out buildings, including a shop with T-11 siding using a curry color. This is very easy to apply, looks very good, and is easy to touch up. For me, it has lasted extremely well, much better than several other products I've used. Now, if I need a stain instead of paint, it's the only product I buy, even if I have to drive 100 miles round-trip to get it.

I like consumer reports but they were way off with this one. It is now 4/2016 and I'm getting ready to again go through the very laborsome project of sanding, stripping, nuetralizing, and staining my deck. It is pressure treated and now nine years old. In 6/2016 I removed a peeling solid stain from another manufacturer. Lots of work to take to bare wood, but I was very excited to switch to a semi transparent.
Well, this may say semi transparent but that is not what you get. It is solid like paint, and last year, less than two years old, it started peeling.
Behr is sending me new stain as part of the warranty. That is good, but I would happily have paid 3 times the price for a true semi trans parents where I can see wood grain. That said, I'd pay even more not to have it peel. This is just a really terrible product.
Do yourself a favor and use a semi transparent OIL BASED stain.

I have used this product 3 times. My deck is 8 years old and 12' x 30'. Started with treated 1x6's from Home Depot. Now 8 years later I'm replacing all boards. At 30$ a gallon one would think it would last. I live in Arkansas, it's not like it rains alot. Will not buy Behr again

Applied this stain last spring. Now it is peeling, flaking, and fading. I am done with all Behr products, which means I am done with Home Depot. I will try to cash in on the "6 Year Warranty", but I expect that will be a waste of time. I will probably just be offered 2 more gallons of the same garbage.
