Hello Kate,
We appreciate your question. If you've got cracks or gaps in the concrete slab, then yes, we'd recommend patching those areas with a fast setting hydraulic cement. Then, prime with a product such as our No. 436 Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer. Please be sure to follow all label instructions for best results. Well wishes for your project!

The paragraph description says it withstands up to 12 PSI of hydrostatic water pressure. But the chart says up to 10 PSI. Which is it?

5-gal. Basement and Masonry Waterproofing Paint is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs miracles! We have been living with a wet basement (sump pump) for 6 years. When we decided to put our house up for sale we thought we should paint the basement, if even for just aesthetic purposes. I never thought our basement would actually be dry, considering the puddles we've had over the years during spring and heavy rains. Well, I painted about a month ago and the sump pump hasn't gone off since! Unbelievable! The paint went on easily. We used 2 coats on the walls that are known to seep and 1 on the rest. Our basement is about 20x25 and I was able to complete it all in one weekend with limited help from my husband. The smell bothered him but I thought it was reasonable. We used a brush for the edges and nooks and crannies and a roller in between. We painted over moist walls. The wet walls took longer to dry by about a day. I recommend it 100% and wish we had done it sooner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent performance and easy application! We purchased an older home with a leaky basement, and have tried a few different products to seal the walls. One waterproofing paint was so thick and sticky it was like painting with thick maple syrup. The second one didn't cover well and the smell was awful. I started to think we were going to have to hire a contractor if we were ever going to have a dry basement. After some serious frustration and quite a bit of money spent, we tried the Behr waterproofer. What a difference! The paint went on smoothly without any drag at all, even over some rough areas where the wall had been textured with sand. The coverage was great. It has been on the walls for a couple of months now and no water or moisture yet! Very pleased! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Covered Well, Satisfied Used this product to repaint previously painted basement walls. I did this for aesthetic purposes rather than waterproofing as I have had no water issues. I scrubbed the walls with white vinegar and water solutions and scraped any loose paint and cement off. The paint covered well with two coats. Used a 3" brush and 9" semi-rough surface roller. I found it went on very smoothly and looked great after two coats in most spots. My son tested his paintball gun on the walls a few years ago. That was difficult to cover and took about four coats. The smell was not overpowering and everything washed up easily. Recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I'd known about this before. The first time I waterproofed a basement, I used Drylock for the basement walls of a rental. It was very labor-intensive and I wore out several paintbrushes and energetic teenagers trying to work it into the crevices. A couple years later, I happened to run into a Behr rep in the paint department as I was looking for basement paint for my own home and he urged me to try the Behr product. Wow. SO much easier to apply--just roll on like slightly-thicker-than-normal paint. It was slightly more expensive, but more than paid for itself in lower labor costs. And it worked beautifully. A couple of years ago we had three years in a row of 100-year flooding. Our neighbors all had water in their basements, but ours stayed bone dry. We don't have to run the dehumidifier nearly as much now, either. I'm always looking for cheaper ways to do things, but this product is worth the extra pennies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works better than all of the others!!! I have spent over $2,000 on water seal products for my basement so was not sure this would work. I bought the major brands for my 1,000 square foot basement and they were not much more than paint on the walls. This is more than paint it has some grit to it that will stick to the walls. I scraped the walls before applying to get a good seal. I asked the nice gentleman at the Paint Counter to put it in the paint shaker so it would mix nice. It is a great product. About the same price as the other name brands I have used but this one works. I also bought the InvisaFlow StealthFlow Gutter Downspouts ..they are the best!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Easy Coverage, Minimal Smell My husband and I purchased this to basement waterproofer to coat the walls in our home built in 1978. Unlike previous experiences in other homes using Drylock, this Behr had a very minimal smell making it much easier to do this project on our own. When purchasing this, the gentlemen at Home Depot noted that the price difference between this and Drylock was minimal, but that the Behr quality was much superior. He noted that Drylock hasn't updated their formula in the last 30 years and that Behr has much better technology. I couldn't agree more. We were really impressed with the ability to tint the color of the Behr paint and ended up going with a nice shade of light grey. The application of the paint was easy and the coverage was great. The can noted that you could apply it to slightly moist surfaces which was a relief because we did have a small area were the cinderblock was already moist. We applied two coats and wow, what an improvement over the bland cinderblock! I would definitely recommend to anyone that has a moist basement. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product, need more for good coverage Two coats really gave great coverage on the basement walls. It looks and feels great. 5 gallons did not cover my entire basement (according to the bucket it should have) so I had to get a few more gallons to coat. It was worth it because it looks fresh and clean. There is an odor while applying but it didn't make the first floor smell.
