Applied Behr Semi-Transparent stain to my deck in Sept 2015. I had cleaned the deck thoroughly with Behr No. 63 All-in-One Wood Cleaner over the prior two weekends. The stain was easy to apply. We used a pad applicator and then back brushed with a paint brush. The first coat dried enough to walk across after a couple of hours, and then we applied a second coat to the horizontal surfaces. The new stain caused the deck to feel tacky or sticky after it had dried, but it was not a significant issue and was less each day until it went away after a good rain. The color closely matched my expectations and looked very uniform. Before and after pictures attached.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TC After 2 applications in 5 years I'm done
Brand new dry cedar fence, first application lasted about 2 years and started to flake. Spent another $500 for second application, and here we are in year 3 it's flaking and gray. Not spending money on this brand again, trying something different. Really like the color but it just won't last.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ChickContractor Go to for exterior staining/sealing
As a contractor, decks and porches keep me busy in the summer and this stain is my go to product. I have used it on decks, porches and playgrounds. It is the best I've found when it comes to coverage, durability and consumer friendly uses and clean up. I've brushed and sprayed applied this stain and every time I have had beautiful results.

I was worried because I bought this product before reading reviews, so all the negative reviews made me 2nd guess my purchase. I had a cedar fence built 3 months prior to staining, the wood was pretty dried out, even beginning to split, so I had to weatherproof as soon as possible. I did not do any prep that others may have done. The stain dried so fast that a 2nd coat was put on less than 30 -45 minutes later.
I picked the Barn Red color and I love the way my fence looks. It rained within 12 hours after staining, I was afraid it would ruin my stain, but it did not.
My fence is not sticky, it dried right away.. We used a professional grade sprayer to apply the stain. I'm hoping for a long lasting stain, so we will see, but right now I'm loving it.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by getmebrian Does not work on CEDAR at all
This Behr stain does not penetrate into the wood like the product claims it should. It dries on top of the surface like a paint. After 10 months, the stain was peeling all over the place... and the application instructions (including prepping with #63) were followed exactly.
Applying the Behr Premium Stain is like painting your deck except it does not apply evenly. It dries extremely fast and will show overlaps. There is no penetration AT ALL into a cedar deck... you are essentially applying paint that will peel after a couple seasons of weather. Horrible product - buyer beware!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by kathy no more behr stain for me ever!
I drove 200 miles to buy Behr stain because I was told it's the best. ..not! I high pressure hosed 4 decks, let the decks dry for 2 warm weeks, bought 3 5 gallon buckets, looked beautiful. Come spring the stain is all peeling off! Emailed the company, no response. All that hard work for nothing, I will never use this product again!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Skully Should have read the reviews prior to purchase and use of this semi transparent acrylic paint
This rubbery acrylic paint (at best). Can see every brush stroke. It's not really the grain of the wood that appears through the "semi transparency" but more like the streaks remaining to dry, left behind by the brush. Bought two 5 gallon pails of this rather expensive mistake. Used one on my three rail farm fence. Going to find someone I don't like and give them the other 5 gallon pail.
My only hope is that it doesn't stand up to its durability and peels off in a uniform sheet.
Although I do have to comment on the ease of clean up. If you use a plastic pail to dip your brush into, when you are finished for the day, just let it sit over night and you can peel every bit of stain (err, I mean paint) out of the plastic pail and it will look new again.
