the specs say that a primer is required - what do I use for the primer for a garage floor / also how many coats of paint for a good look/

reviews said they needed to use two coats for a nicer look
Asked by: JPSki
Yes use a primer on Cement floor (Cement Sealer is recommend) if you want a longer lasting finish to paint .If you have old paint that is peeling remove with a scrapper or flat shovel basically make sure no loose old paint is evident it will still come up after applying new paint. I have applied one full coat and applied second coat on high use areas Tire track area or other

A primer is recommended for this product. Which primer is best?

Asked by: Breslini
Breslini, If using the Bher 1-part epoxy concrete floor coating it is highly recommended that you use a suitable bonding primer. This is the most important step in producing a durable, long lasting result. A finish coat is only as good as what is underneath it. The Bher premium bonding primer is recommended as it is formulated to be used with the 1-part epoxy finish coat, I believe it is model # 88001. The concrete should be clean, etched, and unpainted (raw) . You can buy a good chemical concrete etching solution at your nearest Home Depot. Read and follow the directions carefully as this is a serious product. If the concrete is new it MUST cure for a minimum of 30 days, 45 is even better. This is very important as the chemicals emitted during curing will turn the coatings in to dust. Hope this helps!

5-gal. White 1-Part Epoxy Acrylic Concrete and Garage Floor Paint is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 401.

Painted my garage floor with this product and also applied the flakes and it turned out fantastic. I suggest one additional step once your floor has been painted though. Apply a concrete seal coat over the finished product before you drive on it. I used a clear gloss sealer. As you will read in some of the reviews, without you taking this additional step the paint will come up. It is not due to hot tire but it is due to your tires expanding and contracting. I recommend more than one coat of seal. I put several coats of paint and seal on my floor. But as I mentioned taking these steps will give your garage that fantastic professional look. Dirts wipe up with mop and water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely unsatisfied with the results! Painted my garage floor, following the instructions, and the product did not uphold to the claims. Experienced hot tire pick up the very first time we parked back in the garage after waiting 10 days after the floor was painted! Even my dogs toenails picked the paint, not from "digging" at the paint but just where she sleeps. I will look for another product to use. I would not suggest this product for potential customers and will probably not consider Behr products for any of my painting needs in the future.

I applied one coat and it seemed covered pretty well. I waited 3 days before driving on it and tire marks came on the paint immediately! I repainted with a second coat waited over 2 weeks before driving on it and tire marks again. After going back to the store to see if I was missing a top coat or sealant I was told to contact BEHR because there is no additional steps and it should not leave tire marks. Not happy with this expensive paint that does not do what it says. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!

I followed the instructions and used this paint for my concrete carport, front porch and rear screened patio I applied 2 coats with 24 hours dry time in between and allowed it to dry for over a week before parking or placing patio furniture. There were tire marks in the carport within days of parking The patio is scratched up from moving light patio furniture Front porch is scratched from who knows what. maybe a package delivery? dog feet? your guess is as good as mine My brother has also used the same paint in his garage twice with the same results as above We are in south Florida so maybe it's not good for humid climates Not sure why this is sold as durable garage because it is certainly not that I guess it's better than nothing but certainly not a good product

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gray 1-part Epoxy Concrete and Garage Floor Paint I used this product and followed the directions precisely. I waited at least 10 days before driving in the garage. I also used the flakes which I regret. Deferent area in garage are peeling up and a lot of flakes are being distributed throughout the house much to my wife's displeasure. I am really getting no where with Behr. I have to say I have used other products from Behr for walls with good results. However, they should stick to walls and forget floors. I should have stayed with Rustoleum.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Happy Hired a painter (bonded) to finish my garage to include paining the ceiling, walls and floor. Everything looked perfect. We waited two weeks before putting anything in the garage. The first night we left our car there the paint peeled up with the tires of a Honda Civic. DISAPPOINTED.

I have purchased a gallon for my garage floor along with the recommended Behr Concrete and Masonry Bonding Primer. I have also purchased Behr's Wet-Look Sealer as my final top coat. Before I started on the painting phase, I have etched the floor as suggested. I then waited for the floor to dry and started to apply 1 coating of the bonding primer, waited until next day to apply 1 coating of garage floor paint and broadcasted Behr's decorative flakes per Behr's instruction. again, I waited until the next day to apply 1 coating of Behr's Wet-Look Sealer. So my final product has: 1. Behr Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer (one coat) 2. Behr Concrete & Garage Floor Paint (one coat) 3. Behr Decorative Flakes 4. Behr Wet-Look Sealer as top coat (one coat) Then I parked my car outside for 15 days (Behr's recommendation is 2 weeks) before I started parking it in the garage. In just less than 1 week, the floor paint was stripped off the ground from hot tire. And it happend to all the spots the tires were sitting on. now I have ugly garage floor....once again. It is very frustrating. BUT.....for the parts of the floor that the tires did not touch, they look great!
