Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use this material on pressure treated plywood ?

I have a pt plywood floor used as a garage surface.
Asked by: Paddy
Hello Paddy, Thanks for your question. We can recommend this product on pressure treated wood after the injected chemicals have a chance to air out (typically 6-8 weeks, but please check with the wood manufacturer or vendor for their exact timeframe). Then, you would prep the wood as the label states before staining. Well wishes for your project!

I want to use a primer with this product because coating rough cedar. What primer do you recommend for use with this product?

Cedar was previously damaged and would cover better with a primer.
Asked by: Jimmy
Hello and thank you for your question. When using our BEHR PREMIUM® Solid Color Weatherproofing All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer, a primer is not needed on most woods. However, Cedar and other "bleeding" woods contain water soluble extractives which may cause discoloration of white and pastel colors; therefore prime with one coat of a product such as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® NO. 436 Exterior Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer. Please see the label for additional instructions. Hope this helps and best of luck on your project!

8 oz. #SC125 Stonehedge Solid Color Waterproofing Stain and Sealer Sample is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 94.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deck Makeover At first I was nervous that we would only be able to replace our deck because of the previous products used. The original product was a textured product that is actually in quite of a bind right now due to poor performance. Anyhow, it was an absolute nightmare to remove. After several trash bags full of the chipping paint, our only option was a pressure wash. That still did not do all of the work so we had to have the whole deck sanded. By now Im sure that you can imagine the time this consumed for about 400 sq ft. Finally it was time to stain the deck and we decided to go with semi transparent because the wood actually had some good life to it. The first coat went on and I was not sure that I was loving the color, after a few hours the second coat was applied and BAM! it looked really nice. I will say that it did require an extra gallon but i kind of expected that. It has only been 2 days now but it is looking nice and cant wait to actually be able to use my deck again. Hopefully it holds up for a few years but as of now i dont have much to go off of other than application. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 11 Months. Not 6-8 Years After reading the reviews on Home Depot I decided to try the Behr Semi-transparent deck stain tint base. I chose the chocolate color. I used the stain on a 400 sq ft NEW deck and a 600 sq ft previously stained playset/climbing structure. I allowed the new wood to season for 10 months. Both structures were properly prepared according to the instructions on the back of the can and I used all the recommended Behr products. I stained both structures in the fall of 2015 according to the directions on the back of the can. After staining it took 3 weeks for the product to “cure.” For 3 weeks my children could not use the playset/climbing structure and my family could not use the deck. During these 3 weeks the stain was tacky and would leave visible marks if touched. After the product finally cured it repelled water and worked. This fall of 2016 (only 11 months after application) the stain was bubbling, peeling, flaking, and visible mold was showing. The product only lasted 11 months; 1 of those moths was the “curing/hardening” months. This product did NOT last 6-8 years as advertised.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 4 Months later, wood is absorbing water I applied this on my deck, about 25 years old. The deck was previously coated with a waterproofing product from a different manufacturer. I saw the advertisements for Behr having longer durability than others, and I decided to give it a try. 4 months later, rain water is not beading, but appears to be soaking into the wood. I used it according to instructions, the old clear waterproofing product was off, and no water was beading on the deck. Applied two coats of this product, used just about as much as is suggested based on the square footage for my deck, so I assume the thickness of the application was was at least in the right ballpark. I should add that the deck is barely used. We use our screened in porch, and the deck is next to it, but I only go out there to use the grill, even though that part of the deck is quite large. I think the color of the product is amazing - the deck looks spectacular. The only thing is that it doesn't appear to be 'weather proofing' the wood. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stain Our house was built 28 years ago. We have used many different brands of waterproofing, stain, wood preserver. They only lasted 1 year but we made it last 2. Wood would turn black in areas and bleach out from sun in other's. We always power washed first, which is an awful job to begin with. Just happen to stumble on to Behr Stain and Waterproffing. It has been on 6 years now and going strong! Wish we knew about this product many moons ago. We put it on by brush....so it would soak in better..worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Glow On Wood Fencing Haven't gone wrong with BEHR coatings yet. The All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer really lets the wood grain pop out. Covers well, provides a solid film that looks like it will last. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Behr Works GREAT--Ease up on Power-Washing I plan to enter a more complete review later. I applied Behr Semi-Transparent Weatherproofing almost 10 years ago to a very lengthy fence and decks surrounded by wood railings; then, just last year, to part of a fence. We're finishing the fence shortly. Behr products are always simple to use, reliable, durable, and the best on the market at any price! As I was reading some of the reviews tonight, I noted that many negative results reported their diligence in power-washing prior to application. Yet, the All-in-One Wood Cleaner prep product warns against vigorous power-washing/-rinsing as this may harm the wood. I would imagine staining to be less successful with injured wood.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware! I purchased the BEHR semi-transparent All-in-One wood stain and weatherproofing Cordovan Brown ST104. I also purchases the All-in-One wood cleaner which I used prior to application. I applied the product in the Fall of 2013 as per instructions. The following Spring the whole deck stain completely peeled off. I would not recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST LARGE PROJECT WOOD STAIN #1 CONSUMER REPORTS wood stain waterproofing. I use this and solid color depending on the project. Both have good coverage and very long life. They do not flake off and as far as I can see, little to no fading in sunlight. I've used for fencing, decks, play structures, storage shed buildings and outdoor wood furniture. Never disappointed.
