Hi Ben,
Slate (SC-102) is a very dark gray shade. It's close to black, but not quite. Good luck with your future projects! - Sara

Hello Helihead,
Thanks for your question. Whether doing railings, spindles, or the horizontal deck area, we'd recommend applying two coats of this product. Please also be sure to follow all label instructions for best results. Well wishes for your project!

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 699 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible. So disappointed, hours of cleaning, hours of painting and it didn't last a whole year. Spring of 2015, I scrubbed my deck to remove all dead wood, splitters, grime and grunge. It's a second floor deck, with no access to the ground, only entry from our bedrooms. Followed Behr's directions to a T. As you can see from the photo, I might as well have used regular paint. Do not bother with this product, it's not worth the time and energy, you will put in, let alone the cost. The only area that it didn't peel in random spots was in the shade, near the house. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product ! I used this product on a concrete porch floor. The hardest part of this project was the preparation. After cleaning/etching and then applying the bonding primer, the actual application of the DeckOver was a snap. Since I was covering a large surface, I used a paint roller with an extension handle. The paint rolled on easily and smoothly, filling in small cracks and imperfections in the surface. Coverage was approximately 50 feet per gallon using two coats. Overall the project was a lot of work, but definitely well worth it. My new porch floor is not only colorful, but sports a smooth, slip-free surface. My porch floor is no longer ugly, and so much easier to maintain now too. October 16, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't Hold Up After cleaning our deck, I put two coats of this product on my deck. One year later it is peeling and it needs to be redone. (We do live in a four season state, snow, rain, wind and hot summers) I was really disappointed. August 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Product Ever I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. We followed the prep directions for Deckover exactly as described. After 1 year the Deckover started pealing and cracking. After just 2 years it even caused some of the boards to rot. We spent a lot of time and money on Deckover and I will never use another Behr product again. August 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wait, It Still Looks Great We have nasty weather up here at Lake Tahoe. I thought I would have to repaint the deck once a year and bought another gallon of this Wood and Concrete Coating. But after I scrubbed the deck with dishwashing detergent, I thought the deck still looked great. I'm going to touch up a few spots with my almost empty can and postpone doing the entire deck with the new gallon to next Spring. And I always store my can inside my condo. July 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Deck paint Paint was wrong color and I was not able to return it August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by totally peeling in one year it was not easy to apply. Basically you had to "slather it" on . it did not work well with brush or roller and it was tough to get an even coat. it looked pretty good for almost one year but not it it is pealing badly and my deck looks terrible. I'm not sure what to do because if i paint over it, that will just peel away also. So unless I want to strip the whole thing, or build a new deck, I have a peeling ugly deck August 20, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not worth the money. Purchased premium deck over. We had deck professionally prepared and product applied by same company. Owner of company said this would not be his 1st choice of product due to difficulty of application. it did not fill cracks as stated. product dried unevenly. Product pealed immediately. After complaints, the crew came back, resanded, reprepped all areas and applied 2 coats as directed on web site and on can. Still got same results. The crew worked very hard to satisfy us. This was not a small project with over 1000 sq.ft needed to be addressed. Will not use behr again. If the Pros couldn't make it work, how is the average DIY going to. Not happy.
