Can deckover be applied over painted surfaces

Asked by: goldeneye
Hello goldeneye, Thanks for your question! Yes, it can be applied over both water- and oil-based paints and stains that are in good condition (free of peeling, wear, etc.). Best wishes for your project!

Painting over previous Deck One paint, same color. Second day, noticed a frosted look to most of the areas. What is it?

Love your product as this is this second time using it. Didn't expect to run into any problems but don't want to paint 150' feet of decking for it to look bad.
Asked by: Alottopaint

Winter Shoveling

Just painted my deck with Deck Over. Was wondering in the winter what is the best way to remove snow? Can a shovel be used? I am worried about chipping, peeling, and scratching. Thanks,
Asked by: craig1980
Deckover will come right off if you shovel your deck. But even if you dont shovel, deckover will come off by itself after one winter.

1 gal. #SC-102 Slate Wood and Concrete Coating is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 636.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not durable at all. Just applied Deck Over to our weathered deck. Pressure washed it first, applied as directed (though a $35 gallon of this stuff for just 75sq ft isn't exactly a lot of bang for your buck.) - two coats, did not walk on it for 4 days, no furniture or flowers pots for 5 days. Less than 2 weeks later, I have chipping on the edge of the steps and near the top of the stairs. There are also gouges where we moved our patio table over a few inches. It is a thick product that doesn't not have a smooth, nice looking finish. I regret using this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used this on bare wood porch that sat without treatment of any kind for 20 years. that gets blasting sun in front and intense shade in back. Sanded it,puttied a lot of areas then used DeckOver in dark green. Looks great, gives some traction and came thru the winter w/out a problem. Neighbors came over and oohed and aahed. Went on easy, pretty thick so unable to clean brushes. If one does the proper prep work goes on nice and dries quickly,2 coats and only took 2 galleons with some left over to do a wood door on the fence. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I painted my deck (wood) and front porch (cement) 4 years ago and the following year the paint was peeling and had fade spots. I re-prepped using degreaser, etcher, cleaner (all the steps recommended) and once again it's a mess. The paint is peeling, more faded spots. Looks worse than before I painted it. It was an incredible amount of work (twice) and still awful results. Very disappointed. Would never recommend this product to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Purchase I bought this product at HomeDepot two summers ago. This is all most 2 years now. I took the 1st picture two years ago and 2nd picture now almost 2 years later. It still looks new, no peel off and no fade. Very Good Product. Some people has the complaint, I think they are making some mistake at the time of preparation.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst paint Bought the restorative pain after a year it started to bubble. This year it all bubbled and we had to peel it off the deck and stain it. Waste of time and money. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible product. Over the last two years, I have applied this product to my deck three times bec... Horrible product. Over the last two years, I have applied this product to my deck three times because the first two times it kept coming up. The product would just strip off and/or come up if anything was rubbed against the deck . As of the third time (May 2016) it is still peeling off and I now have a few rotted boards as it did not repel the water. Each time it was applied, the deck was completely pressure washed, cleaned and applied as per instructions. Product is extremely hard to work with and clean up. Ruined the deck and I will now have to replace all the wood decking. I will be calling the Home Depot manager shortly about their warranty.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seriously after 3 years it is peeling off in sheets!!!! This is a horrible product. It takes at least twice as long to put it on as its so thick and gets more like paste as you are trying to "paint" it on than the regular stains and paints. After one year it started peeling off in spots and this year, year 2, it's literally peeling off in sheets!!!! My deck looks terrible AND now I have to try to remove it all before I can redo it with the regular stuff. I still can't get over how expensive it was and how horrible it is. Really a product that should be taken off the market. Wish I could add pictures to my review!
