Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A paint capable of covering a multitude of sins (natural and accidental) Living in Southwest FL, we endure high humidity, summer torrential rains (daily), flying white sands, and extreme sun nearly year-round. This year we had an unusually long rainy season which did a number on the outdoor paint to our home. We used the BEHR Premium DeckOver Padre Brown Wood and Concrete Paint to re-paint the concrete front entrance way of our home. It came out beautifully (see the before and after photos). This is a quality paint, is thick, and dries very quickly. Because it's so thick, it required nearly 2-gallons to complete this area with two coats. This paint poured easily and was easy to apply. The paint has a very strong ammonia odor, so recommend using a mask or use only in spaces with plenty of air/ventilation to prevent illness. Also, because the paint has a thick consistency, and dries really fast, you'll need to be hasty about applying it (especially in hot regions). Otherwise, it's great for regular wear and tear, weather beaten concrete and wooden decks, or other areas of your home that are highly visible, used frequently, and need high-quality paint. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it I just moved into a foreclosure and our covered deck needed some touch up to fix some peeling paint. I power washed the deck 1st but was worried because there was still paint peeling off before I applied deck over. The color matched up perfectly and it looks great. I only wanted a light coat so I used a small cabinet roller that I had in the garage. It went on strong and quick and really turned out great. I haven't seen any paint peeling yet, and I was worried but it seems to be a very strong covering. I used less than a gallon on my 18x14 porch so I was very pleased. Recommend! July 16, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Revived My Deck I used this product on a 10-15 year old deck that hadn't been treated in any way for the last 3 years. I thoroughly cleaned the deck first with Behr Premium All In One Deck Cleaner & then set about giving my deck a facelift. This paint is VERY thick - the color & consistency reminds me of brownie batter. I started with the railings & used a 2" brush to paint those. I applied paint fairly liberally and one coat was sufficient on the vertical surfaces. Once I got to the floor, I used the Wagner Flexio 590 to apply the DeckOver. It has to be cranked up as high as it will go & its spray isn't quite as thick as it is with thinner paints, but it does work - quite well actually. I adjusted the spray until it would cover the width of one board & worked my way across the deck one board at a time. Using the sprayer gave me nice, even coverage, but I discovered that if you want to really get it to fill in the cracks, you have to go over some areas with a brush (I think this would also be the case with a roller, but maybe not). So, after the first coat had dried, I went back over the cracked areas with a paint brush (small cracks - most were 1/8" or less) & then applied a second coat to the whole deck 48 hours later. I was already planning on a second coat, but just FYI: if you go back over some areas with a paint brush, you can tell a difference in the texture & it will be noticeable from certain angles, so if you are going to fill in cracks, do that first or between coats. After the second coat, I kept foot traffic off it for 48 hours. After that, it weathered the first few days beautifully, but we didn't have any rain. After a few days & reading numerous complaints about paw prints, I intentionally poured water on some red clay mud underneath the lower deck, stuck my dog's front paws in it & directed him up the stairs to the upper deck. Obviously the paw prints stuck out like a sore thumb (see photos), but that's what you get if you're picking a dark color. I was mostly interested in how they would clean off, so I let the paw prints dry over the next 3 or 4 hours and then returned to clean them off. I first tried just trying to brush them off with a dry deck brush. That had virtually no effect. I then wet the brush & scrubbed for a minute or so over the area. That helped some, but they were still visible. I then brought out a bucket of water, dipping the brush in it regularly so the surface was good & wet while I was scrubbing, and that seemed to take it all off. It took 5 or 6 minutes to clean the area - more than I was expecting, but not so bad I regret going with Padre Brown. So, if you have dogs prone to muddy paws, understand that this will take some effort to keep it looking fresh. If that's not your cup of tea, go with a lighter color or a different product. However, if you don't mind having to scrub the deck down every once in a while, this product should work well for you. It definitely protects the wood as well if not better than anything else on the market & it looks great. The texture is a little different - much less slick that regular painted wood - but nothing you will even notice unless you're barefoot. Overall, fairly easy way to revive and protect a deck. It will require some scrubbing to keep it looking sharp, but the improved look is worth it. October 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far, better than I expected! We applied Behr Deckover about 7 months ago and I'm really pleased with the results. The paint is very thick and seems much more durable than any other stain I've tried. Previous stains we've used, stop showing their waterproof abilities in a few months. Filling cracks and nail holes on the deck was easy and created a nice smooth surface. We only used one coat on our 12x20 deck because we got heavy rain before we could get the 2nd coat on, so these past 7 months have only been with one coat and it's the best I've come across. We recently expanded our deck and will be using this on the new section as well. The paint has fine sand in it so it creates a smooth but non-slip surface which is great for our kids running around. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Behr Stain Ever I bought Behr DeckOver because it is the latest and greatest in their line of deck stains ($35 a gallon). I got the product and opened it to stir, it was grit on the bottom, latex in the middle and pigment on top. The stuff was really hard to stir but I did that and kept pouring back and forth between cans to mix it. I then painted my porch. All the brushing was hard to do, I even broke a roller handle trying to roll it. It did not fill any screw holes, it just put a heavy layer of paint on them. You have to use a ton of pressure on brushes or rollers to get it pressed into the wood. The next day it looked great, except for several milky spot. I called Home Depot, they said call Behr. I did and they said wash the spots with soap and water, if that doesn't work use rubbing alcohol, if they are still there re-coat. Behr sent me a gallon of the DeckOver to re-coat if needed. I used soap and water on the spots and it worked for most. The rest took alcohol and a recoat. The product I received from Behr was thoroughly mixed and was still the cake batter consistency. I called Behr to let them know Home depot was not mixing the product properly so they sent an email to home depot. Just an update so this doesn't happen to anyone else. I used the new can and touched up some of the pickets on the railing. Most of those spots turned white too. I now am wipeing off my porch and pickets daily as the white spots are still appearing in different spots then at first. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Unless you are a professional painter and even then I would say stay away. October 12, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unhappy customer Deck over is terrible! Read instructions, prep as directed in instructions, waited two days to make sure wood was dry, put on one coat, waited 12 hours, put on second coat, waited 4 days, first time walking on deck over left shoe prints and dog paw prints, can't get the off. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT! August 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brings old wood back to life I have been looking forward to trying this product. I heard so many good reports about it. A few people I had spoke with in person said they used it and it worked great. I have a really old deck in my backyard, that looks like it needs to be replaced. When this product came out I wanted to use it on my deck and save on the cost of a replacement. I followed the manufactures directions, I cleaned my deck really well I removed any old paint that was left on it. I also replaced about 9 boards that could not be saved, they had split all the way down the middle. I got the paint roller and brush that would work with this type of paint, that is important to have the right tools to complete the job correctly. Once I began rolling it on I could see my deck come back to life. When rolling it on you want to apply pressure, so that the paint gets into all the cracks. It takes two full coats but the finished product was amazing, it really works. While I was painting I noticed that it is spatter resistant so it did not go all over the back of my house. Application is quick and easy. Deck over is resistant to cracking and peeling. It conceals splinters and cracks up to 1/4 inch. Smooth and resistant finish. It has a 12 year guarantee, but I will have to report more on that as the years go on. Enjoy bringing life back to your old wood or concrete and save on money and time September 6, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pricey, but you get what you pay for The label on the container claims to bring new life to wood and concrete, and it does just that. Its a little bit on the expensive side, but it was definitely worth it. I got the Padre Brown and painted the veranda in my backyard and it looks fantastic!! January 8, 2014
