Customer Questions & Answers

how long will it last before needing to be redone?

Asked by: george
I would say one year. I thought this would last. We powerwashed the deck until it was down to the original wood. Then we used deckover when it was completely dry. We used 2 coats as recommended. It looks fantastic when we finished and for that summer. However with snow shoveling and walking on it, it looked horrible the next summer. You have to sand it or power wash it again before doing it the next year because it's all chipped. I would never buy this again. I'm going to power wash it off and just stain it next summer.

Would anyone recommend this product on a new deck?

Asked by: jmdad75
No! Even if you follow the instructions perfectly, it will look horrible the next year with chipped and peeling paint.

How long does the coating last before it starts to crack and peel?

All of the reviews I read said this product is a waste of money and that in less than a year the coating started to crack and/or peel off.
Asked by: Lovelila
It's been on two years and counting. The only place I have had to re-coat is the steps that get a lot of traffic. Easy job with a small roller.

1 gal. #SC-119 Colony Blue Wood and Concrete Coating is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 1196.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not durable at all. Just applied Deck Over to our weathered deck. Pressure washed it first, applied as directed (though a $35 gallon of this stuff for just 75sq ft isn't exactly a lot of bang for your buck.) - two coats, did not walk on it for 4 days, no furniture or flowers pots for 5 days. Less than 2 weeks later, I have chipping on the edge of the steps and near the top of the stairs. There are also gouges where we moved our patio table over a few inches. It is a thick product that doesn't not have a smooth, nice looking finish. I regret using this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used this on bare wood porch that sat without treatment of any kind for 20 years. that gets blasting sun in front and intense shade in back. Sanded it,puttied a lot of areas then used DeckOver in dark green. Looks great, gives some traction and came thru the winter w/out a problem. Neighbors came over and oohed and aahed. Went on easy, pretty thick so unable to clean brushes. If one does the proper prep work goes on nice and dries quickly,2 coats and only took 2 galleons with some left over to do a wood door on the fence. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst paint Bought the restorative pain after a year it started to bubble. This year it all bubbled and we had to peel it off the deck and stain it. Waste of time and money. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a a costly disappointment!! So much time and money wasted. I spent hours preparing my deck for this product before applying it to insure a good result. The result was good for a year after which the finish started the process of simply peeling off. In the spring even washing off the bird poo with my garden hose wasn't tolerated by the finish. The bad news is I am now tring to strip Restore off my deck. The good news is my leaf blower looks like the answer since Restore can not adhere. Still hours of work ahead of me and more expense.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a durable option The 2 stars is because it lasted 2 season ok. We expected better. We used the DeckOver on the deck around our pool. After following all the directions for preparation (including using the Behr deck cleaning products) we applied 2 coats. It looked great for the first season. Some cracking an chipping in the second season. Now in the spring of the thirst season, about 20-30% of the deck is peeling off. I am in the middle of scraping and sanding the whole deck. It is so discouraging because after all this work, I'm not sure I want to use DeckOver again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I painted my deck (wood) and front porch (cement) 4 years ago and the following year the paint was peeling and had fade spots. I re-prepped using degreaser, etcher, cleaner (all the steps recommended) and once again it's a mess. The paint is peeling, more faded spots. Looks worse than before I painted it. It was an incredible amount of work (twice) and still awful results. Very disappointed. Would never recommend this product to anyone.

At first we were very happy with the product...Now 3 years later and the bubbling and peeling that others have dealt with is our world. I prepped per instructions and applied. 1st year decent with a few trouble spots that we reprepped and coated (twice per rec) and then late last year we noticed that wood in many spots was just plain rotting from water intrusion. This year I will be replacing almost my entire deck with composite prepainted decking, facing and railing. Should have just done that first. I did not include pictures because it just irritates me looking at it.
