My deck hadn't been taken care for over 10 years ago. I was talking to one of the staff at Home Depot about the splinters and cracks I had on the deck and he recommended Behr Deck Over. I researched his recommendation and it had good reviews. The product applied easily and covered the deck and fixed the splinters and cracks. The deck really looks new after applying the second coat. It was a bit difficult to apply and took some time especially for the first coat as the paint is very thick. I used a roller for most of the deck and a brush for the corners, the sides and the railing.
No priming is needed, which is great, but there is no instruction on how to stain the deck after applying the Deck Over paint.

Our deck is almost 30 years old, and was never properly cared for. It was worn from having sand thrown on it in the winter, and rotted in a lot of places because we used outdoor rugs and the wood never dried.
There were so many splinters and cracks, we were worried about the dog's paws. Going barefoot was out of the question. We really needed to replace the deck, but just couldn't afford it this year.
The DeckOver commercials were intriguing. What did we have to lose?
The project took me (58 years old, female) about six weeks from start to finish. I scraped up old stain and paint, scrubbed off mold, dug out rot and sealed with wood hardener and putty, sanded where I had to, and scraped dirt from between the boards with a putty knife. The deck area totals about 600 square feet with simple railings around the upper portion.
I chose to brush the paint because the surface was so bad. Brushing gave me the opportunity to use a heavier application than a roller would have allowed. I painted in sections so we could still use the deck during the process. We arranged patio furniture as a barrier to keep the dog off the fresh paint.
You cannot clean the brushes, so I bought three inexpensive wide brushes, and used each one about four times. Between painting I placed the brush in a plastic bag in the refrigerator, and it stayed perfectly soft. I wore vinyl "surgical" gloves while painting.
I bought gallons one at a time (used six) because a five-gallon can was too heavy for me. There is some slight difference in tone, but part of that could be because some of the sections were painted weeks apart.
The paint smells awful. It is very thick (which is awesome, because you can see the cracks disappear with each brush stroke). Do NOT paint in the sun or when the deck is very hot; the paint will dry too fast. It sets up in about an hour; we walked on it after about 18 hours with no problems.
So far there is no peeling but honestly, even if there was, this is so much better than what was there, I'm not sure I would care. For a little more than $225, we didn't have to replace our deck.

Don't waste your money on this product!!
I have been using Behr deck products for over 12 years now and none of them seem to last more than a year. Last fall I bought Behr Deck Over and rented a commercial sander to completely remove all remnants of previous stain layers followed with compressed air to blow off all sanding dust from the deck floor. After we applied the Behr Deck Over it looked really great. I mistakenly thought maybe this product would work as advertised. Well as soon as spring weather came in March and April it began flaking and pealing everywhere.
I'm done using Behr products and will look at oil based penetrating stains when I get ready to stain my deck this year.

I prepped and applied exactly as instructions say approximately 5 weeks ago. I live in Upcountry Maui- the temperatures NEVER exceed recommended application temps, high or low, year-round. It looked great! 4 weeks later it started bubbling up all over the deck. Really nasty. Cracking and chipping can only be what lies ahead. The house is for sale and my big selling point is now a complete eyesore. I will have no choice but to give a buyer a credit to replace the whole deck. I am going to lose $5,000 by using $150. worth of this 'easy to use, miracle product'!
Just sick after seeing all the similar complaints on this site and many others on the web. Wow, guess I am not alone. I don't think any other Home Depot product reviews have more 1-star reviews than any other star reviews. Point being- THEY KNOW this is a terrible product that is costing buyers HUGE amounts of money to remedy, yet they KEEP SELLING IT.

We used this on a deck that had never been sealed. You will use a ton of this product. We have a 12x15 deck and used 4 cans just on the flooring and steps. It also dries much lighter than whats in the can. Can't stress that enough. Also it is so hot on your bare feet, on s 80-90 degree day you can't walk on it. It looks ok. Cut a roller in half when doing the flooring, it saves on waste.

Painted a bench top yesterday to try the paint out before using it on my deck. It smells a bit unusual - kind of like vinegar or something. The paint goes on thick and rubbery. It spreads nicely at first but quickly starts setting up so you can't touch up while in progress well However, places I thought were going to look rough self leveled and look fine now. I'll let you know how it holds up. I was happier with the color once it dried. Next time I'm going to get grey or dark brown as I'm not very imaginative and color is really hard for me. I'll be back to let you know how it holds up and if it shows dirt with a lighter color

We were so impressed with the demo at Home Depot that in 2013 my sister and I both purchased Deck Over and stained our decks. We both spent almost an entire summer on this project. After thoroughly cleaning our decks and letting them dry. We painted over the cracks and between each board with a paint brush as was suggested by the rep and allowed sufficient time for both coats to dry. Both decks look gorgeous for the remainder of that first summer. By spring 2014 the stain on both decks had cracked and started to peel. We could actually peel off the stain with our fingers. We touched up these areas only to have the same thing happen in 2015 and now in 2016. In addition, we were told the deck would be perfect for walking in on bare feet... It is not! This is very discouraging especially when my neighbors used a plain old deck stain and have much better looking decks. We were told the stain would last for many years and I have touched up my deck every year - what a waste of time and money. Several people asked why the deck looks like it does when it was recently stained and what I've used. I tell them but I also warn them it's a lot of money for very poor results. This product should last more than one year. Up to this point I thought Behr products were far better than other brands. After this experience I am not sure I will purchase Behr again.
