Planning to paint an old weathered deck and shed both 15 years old, bare wood, in good shape, just weathered. How long should I expect this to hold up before I need to repaint them? Is this good for a wood shed or would regular stain hold up longer?
Asked by: Jim
Hello Jim, Thank you for your interest in our products. It’s hard to say the exact amount of years it’ll last on the deck. It mainly depends on the preparation prior to applying the product and also the weather in your area. Before applying our product, we recommend cleaning the deck with our No. 63 cleaner. It may be too thick of a product for the shed. For the shed I would suggest our Solid Color Weatherproofing Wood Stain. Best regards, Kevin

Can I apply epoxy over deckover

Asked by: kris
Hello kris, We appreciate your question. If desired, DeckOver can be topcoated with water-based paints and stains, though we haven't tested it with epoxies. You might want to check with the epoxy manufacturer to see if their product successfully adhere to a 100% acrylic product like ours. Hope this helps! -Joshua

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST DECK PAINT EVER I had some boards replaced on my deck the ones that were old looked horrible! I was looking for a paint that would resurface the old wood to look like the newer wood. DeckOver worked better than I had ever expected. I now have a new deck you can't tell the old wood from the new wood. Thank you so much for this product. I told a co-worker about this paint and she had a painter company to perform and she is also ecstatic about her new deck [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little eavesdropping saved a deck! We had our deck installed about 10 years ago and we were over the moon excited for the extended living space it created outdoors, however, over time it became a eye sore due to our midwest Missouri weather and we found ourselves neglecting this area. Last year we had a pool added and the deck stood out even more as an eye sore, we thought our only option was to tear it down and start over until one day we were at Home Depot and overheard a customer talking to the paint associate about their deck and they suggested Behr Deck Over, we were intrigued, so after eavesdropping on this very detailed conversation we walked out of Home Depot with Deck Over, we did our railings in White and the floor in Padre brown. It is absolutely gorgeous. It went on great, it is so durable, I know without a doubt we have extended the life of our deck for many many years to come and it has turned in to a conversation piece with our neighbors and I know of two neighbors that have now since used Deck Over on their own decks! Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terribly Disappointed I had high hopes for this product because of the Behr name and a recommendation by a friend. When I saw how thick it was, I figured it would probably be very durable and last. Unfortunately, it didn't last. I applied it in July 2015 and by September it was starting to peel. I planned to touch up those spots this spring but spring has come and it's worse than ever. We plan to get regular stain and cover those spots, but there will be a huge difference in texture and I guess that the Deckover will continue to peel. I would not use this again and I sure wouldn't recommend it. (And we followed the directions to the letter!) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wasted money Cleaned power washed my deck Last May 2015 waited a week before I painted the deck with the first coat of deck over grey. Waited a week and cleaned and placed on my second coat. It is now April 2016 and the paint is chipping off. The deck was only used by me and my dogs . Now I have to redo the deck again. What a waste of time and good hard earned money. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Peeling We have put Deck Over on our deck several times, the old part looks pretty nice, but the new part, we have had to replace it twice because of the peeling. The last time we have used stripping, power washed, plus used a sander, still can't get all of the old off. Ugh. Behr has been giving us suggestion, which we do appreciate, just frustrating that it seems we are doing this every year. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT USE!!! Two years ago I put this on a 4 year old (at the time) wood deck. I followed directions exactly including the pre-wash. Last year the paint started flaking off in large areas - I carefully dried each area, sanded and repainted. This year I have additional large areas of flaking and several areas where the wood is rotted - very unusual for what is now a 6 year old deck. My other deck which has had only stain for the last 16 years is still in fine condition. I wish I had never used this terrible product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't use this product. We applied this 2 years ago, according to instructions, using the preparation recommended. Last year it was already beginning to flake and peel; this spring it has gotten worse. ARRGGG. We didn't want to have to do this again and now we don't know what to do, it's going to be a whole lot of elbow grease to scrape this stuff off and then what to do next???

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Waste Your Money When it was first applied, this stuff made my deck look amazing. It was applied by a professional painter exactly according to instructions, including deck preparation. After a year and a half of mild California weather, the paint began chipping and peeling off, and now the deck looks worse than before I had it painted. A complete waste of time and money.
