Planning to paint an old weathered deck and shed both 15 years old, bare wood, in good shape, just weathered. How long should I expect this to hold up before I need to repaint them? Is this good for a wood shed or would regular stain hold up longer?
Asked by: Jim
Hello Jim, Thank you for your interest in our products. It’s hard to say the exact amount of years it’ll last on the deck. It mainly depends on the preparation prior to applying the product and also the weather in your area. Before applying our product, we recommend cleaning the deck with our No. 63 cleaner. It may be too thick of a product for the shed. For the shed I would suggest our Solid Color Weatherproofing Wood Stain. Best regards, Kevin

Can I apply epoxy over deckover

Asked by: kris
Hello kris, We appreciate your question. If desired, DeckOver can be topcoated with water-based paints and stains, though we haven't tested it with epoxies. You might want to check with the epoxy manufacturer to see if their product successfully adhere to a 100% acrylic product like ours. Hope this helps! -Joshua

1 gal. #SC-141 Tugboat Wood and Concrete Coating is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 562.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Like I never did it I did my two-tiered deck with DeckOver three years ago starting today. I scraped the deck, made repairs, washed the wood, cleaned between the boards. I did the deck in sections and it looked wonderful when I was finished. I wished I had this paint for inside; every crack and imperfection was filled in. I couldn't be more pleased. By the end of the first winter, about a quarter of the paint had peeled up. It continued to peel. Every time I took the blower out to remove leaves or pine needles, huge sheets of DeckOver came up too. Today marks three years since I started painting, and my deck looks worse than it did before I did anything. This was a total waste of time and money. A lot of time and a lot of money. I am beyond disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not durable at all. Just applied Deck Over to our weathered deck. Pressure washed it first, applied as directed (though a $35 gallon of this stuff for just 75sq ft isn't exactly a lot of bang for your buck.) - two coats, did not walk on it for 4 days, no furniture or flowers pots for 5 days. Less than 2 weeks later, I have chipping on the edge of the steps and near the top of the stairs. There are also gouges where we moved our patio table over a few inches. It is a thick product that doesn't not have a smooth, nice looking finish. I regret using this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money I have always been told that if the product sits on top of the wood it will not last. It will peel and come off. But I thought I would try one more time. Did the proper prep for the surface as always. I have 5 cabins on a lake and a house for winter. I used deckover on all the decks and steps. Gallon after gallon applied and many hours of labor wasted. It is all coming off at a rapid rate. It lasted about a year. Don't waste your money. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY DISAPPOINTED We did two coats last summer on our covered porch at our seasonal cabin. It didn't even hold up a year. For the high price of this product, I expected it to last at least a few seasons.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sad. Terrible product I pressure washed my deck, let dry for a week (no rain), and applied the product as instructed. 7 months later it's peeling up and i have to replace my deck boards. I'm pretty upset that this product has made my life more difficult and expensive. Unfortunately it looks like I'm not alone. Many other reviews like mine!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not last 8 months I grew-up as a painter working for the family business. I know enough to know that prep is critical. I followed directions for prepping my deck. I applied the first coat with a brush. Waited a week then applied a second coat. Finished the second coat in September of 2016. It is now the end on May 2017, We had a mild winter in Denver, Colorado. Went out to the deck today and noticed that the paint was cracked and peeling. Total waste of the money spent on eight gallons.
