Hi Kris,
Thanks for writing in, and great question! The type of product you use will depend on the finish you're looking for. Hi Paula,
That's a great question. I'm sorry to say DeckOver doesn't come in a clear coating- all the colors are solid, like a paint. We do have Transparent Wood Finishes available, but they have a small amount of tint to them. You can view our Premium Transparent Finish here: http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-1-gal-500-Natural-Transparent-Weatherproofing-Wood-Finish-50001/100113076.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This stuff is c..". pealed up after one year Product was applied one year ago and it is pealing up this year making deck look like .... July 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great I like this no more splinters from NON treated wood deck. That was made 10 years ago, you can mop it if you get a lighter color. I did get 3 chips about the size of a quarter in the high traffic areas after a bad winter with a lot of shoveling and such. Might want to save a gallon or a 1/2 for touch up/ Rest held up real well. Normal water treatments just were not cutting it, this is much more permanent . May 19, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by won't last a full year Incredibly expensive, doesn't hold up to high sun and winter weather. Just spent the day power washing the loose stuff off. What hasn't already peeled off comes off in big chunks with little effort. I might just rake up all the pieces blown off the deck and send it back to BEHR. June 15, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Too early to tell, but so far, so good I've had this applied on my very old, very weathered deck for about 2.5 weeks now in mid-June 2016, and so far, so good. It was applied in less than ideal conditions, in partial direct sun, about 80 degrees and low humidity. It had not rained for about 3 days and my moisture meter had the decking at under 8%. I brushed it on to apply it, on over 200 sq. ft. of decking, and also on some vertical surfaces. It was much easier to apply with a wide brush than with a roller. I also feel like you will be able to spread it more efficiently with a brush, and that more product will be wasted with a roller. It says not to apply if rain is expected within 24 hours. Unfortunately, it did rain about 26 or 28 hours after the second coat was applied. That wasn't in the weather forecast. Let's hope that's enough. The one main criticism I have so far is that the actual color is VERY different from the in-store brochure as well as the online color guide. VERY different. I originally wanted to do my entire deck in Cedar Naturaltone, which clearly is a light brown in the color brochure. You put it on and it's a bright glowing orange color. After I applied one coat of that on everything, I went to Home Depot and then got additional cans in plain Cedar to do the second coat on horizontal surfaces only. Railings and vertical surfaces I left in Cedar Naturaltone for the contrast. Even the Cedar color is quite far off from the color in the brochure, it's also a bit too orange. Now let's see if it stands the test of time. I have relatively cold winters here in the northeast and hot, humid summers. I like the texture very much, the matte finish is grippy. And it makes my several decades old deck look like new, almost like composite decking. July 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Home Depot should pay to replace my deck I prepared my deck meticulously following the instructions. After 6 months, it started peeling. Now after 2 years or so it is an absolute disaster. I can peel off huge strips with my hands. I have uploaded a photo showing how horrible the peeling is. I think there is mold growing under the loose strips that I am peeling off. I can't enjoy my deck anymore it is such an eyesore. I can't believe they are still selling this product. My goal for this summer is to somehow get all of this off my deck or I will have to replace every board. This product is a disgrace and I can't believe I am stuck with this horrible mess. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible. So disappointed, hours of cleaning, hours of painting and it didn't last a whole year. Spring of 2015, I scrubbed my deck to remove all dead wood, splitters, grime and grunge. It's a second floor deck, with no access to the ground, only entry from our bedrooms. Followed Behr's directions to a T. As you can see from the photo, I might as well have used regular paint. Do not bother with this product, it's not worth the time and energy, you will put in, let alone the cost. The only area that it didn't peel in random spots was in the shade, near the house. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good.... So far so good, it was a lot of work putting on two coats on a 20x15 foot deck.. I also used it on my front door entrance threshold since there is a need to fill in a crack there as well and it said it works on cement so.... I picked the slate to match the existing slate hearth on the fireplace so I think that the house is looking more unified. It would really take a couple of years of use to know how my choice works but it sure looks a lot nicer now. April 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not worth the money. Purchased premium deck over. We had deck professionally prepared and product applied by same company. Owner of company said this would not be his 1st choice of product due to difficulty of application. it did not fill cracks as stated. product dried unevenly. Product pealed immediately. After complaints, the crew came back, resanded, reprepped all areas and applied 2 coats as directed on web site and on can. Still got same results. The crew worked very hard to satisfy us. This was not a small project with over 1000 sq.ft needed to be addressed. Will not use behr again. If the Pros couldn't make it work, how is the average DIY going to. Not happy. June 23, 2016
