hello, we are in need of updating our deck and we are unsure whether this product will do the job being that we have two dogs that are runners (scratch the wood) when are let out into the yard. Would you suggest this or maybe something different to ensure our painted are doesnt get damaged too easily? Thank you!
Asked by: diyer
Hi diyer, Thank you for your question! All of our wood coatings are very durable, but they may not resist frequent pet scratches. Please keep in mind that you may need to periodically touch up the scratched spots. The DeckOver is a great option for your deck if the wood boards are old and weathered. If your deck is still in pretty good condition though, you may also want to check out our Solid Color Waterproofing Stain & Sealer ( Best of luck with your project! - Sara

My wood deck is about 11 years old. I stained it 3 years ago and the wood looks really discolored and stain disappeared. My railing is built from electrical cross arms and has a very rustic look. Will this paint cover the cross arms railing? I also need to know if the wood cleaner will be sufficient to clean the deck? Would like a gloss effect on the wood. Is there a sealer that I could apply after painting with the deck over paint- mainly on the railings?
Asked by: Pete
Hi Pete, As long as the cross arms are made of wood and not metal, DeckOver can be applied to them. Our All-in-One Wood Cleaner is great for surface preparation; just make sure to follow the correct spread rate. You can use either of our Low-Lustre or Wet-Look clear sealers to create a glossy finish. Hope this helps! Kindest regards, Doris

I put this on our deck 2 years ago & need to retreat some worn areas. What do I need to do to prepare the surface?

I'm hoping its just soap & water cleanup and I don't have to remove all of the old stuff and then reseal.
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi there, Thanks for writing in, and sorry to hear Deckover has began to wear off. If the coating is worn in more than just one area, it's best to remove as much of the loose coating is necessary. Any bare concrete should be etched before recoating, and wood should be cleaned with the No. 63 Cleaner and Conditioner. For more information on how to get your project back on track, please feel free to email our Customer Care team at for technical assistance. Best, Jeanette P.

5 gal. #SC-110 Chestnut Wood and Concrete Coating is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't do it. Less than a month after being applied it's already peeling wasted 5 hours applying a terrible product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great on an old fence For a "deck" product, I really like this paint on fences and concrete block retaining walls. It does an impressive job of filling cracks and holes, of which my fence has plenty. It dries quickly, and quite hard, almost like a shell on the wood. I used a 5" brush (see below) and really put a thick coat on. When I did my initial tests, I think I laid it on too think, which left streaks. If you lay on a nice thick coat, it will run together and make a more even surface. Very impressed with this product, although I can't speak to it's use on a deck, it works great on old fences and concrete block..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wonderful paint purchased this for 3 "older" decks and it covered beautifully !! wood was so dry I had to order another 5 gals but it is well worth it . Deck looks new ! color is like a terra cotta very nice I tried to post pic but it was too big :( will not go wrong with this unless it backfires on us in the winter and does not hold up to temps.( or gets slippery)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New life for old deck Great product for old worn deck. The product added a no-slip feature which is perfect for wet weather living in the N.W. My dogs appreciate the added traction too. Easy application with roller and nice thick coverage for no drips. I think the finished result makes my deck look like a more expensive "Trex" deck. I would prefer to repaint rather than strip, clean, and re-stain as I have in previous years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from product worked great. Looks like paint, but made deck look new. Very thick product, but goes on pretty good with a roller. Cleans up with soap and water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does NOT Do the Job Did my deck with Behr Deckover last Fall. Looked great for a while. On new boards, it worked like a champ, but on the older boards it neither filled in the minor cracking nor did it adhere properly. We DID fully clean the deck prior to applying, so that is not the problem. It just does not do what it is supposed to do - that is to restore old decks like new. Going to touch up the deck, but eventually will have to sand it all off and re-do with probably a solid color stain or something else. Extremely disappointed!
