I put this on our deck 2 years ago & need to retreat some worn areas. What do I need to do to prepare the surface?

I'm hoping its just soap & water cleanup and I don't have to remove all of the old stuff and then reseal.

Hi there,
Thanks for writing in, and sorry to hear Deckover has began to wear off. If the coating is worn in more than just one area, it's best to remove as much of the loose coating is necessary. Any bare concrete should be etched before recoating, and wood should be cleaned with the No. 63 Cleaner and Conditioner. Refurbished wood that has been sanded

I have removed all decking, removed all screws and turned over the wood and sanded the better side. It had few drips of old stain from other side which were sanded 99-100% off . Boards look yellow with a few spots here and there that are questionable for cleaning or just more sanding. Deck will be 5 square. Can you suggest the best prep before installation of your Deck over? The board with all the blue that is down will be removed. Didn't like it once it was down. FYI: We lowered the deck over 2 steps and reused all the wood. Thanks for any help.

Hello armymom,
Great question. Once the surface has been sanded, then we recommend using our All-In-One Wood Cleaner No. 63 over the entire deck. After using our cleaner, we recommend letting the surface completely dry and then applying 2 coats of our DeckOver.
Best wishes,
Kevin

Hello John,
Thanks for your question. Our DeckOver stain is not designed to stand up to the wear expected on garage floors, so we'd recommend against applying it there. You might instead consider our 1-Part Epoxy Floor Paint: http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-1-Gal-PFC-20-Coronado-1-Part-Epoxy-Concrete-and-Garage-Floor-Paint-93001/203936906?keyword=behr+1-part+epoxy+coronado (notice: I gave a link Read More

For prep, we recommend removing any loose or peeled old paint, sanding the frayed edges of that coating smooth, lightly sanding any areas of the coating that are glossy, spot etching any bare concrete, cleaning the whole surface, spot priming any bare concrete with a product like our No. 880 Bonding Primer, and then applying the paint. Please follow all label instructions for best results, and well wishes!

Hello Chip,
Thanks for your question. Yes, it's okay that the deck was recently power washed, and yes, we would recommend prepping the surface with a product like our No. 63 Wood Cleaner which will open up the pores of the wood to promote adhesion. Please be sure to follow all label instructions, and best wishes.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does NOT Do the Job Did my deck with Behr Deckover last Fall. Looked great for a while. On new boards, it worked like a champ, but on the older boards it neither filled in the minor cracking nor did it adhere properly. We DID fully clean the deck prior to applying, so that is not the problem. It just does not do what it is supposed to do - that is to restore old decks like new. Going to touch up the deck, but eventually will have to sand it all off and re-do with probably a solid color stain or something else. Extremely disappointed! May 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by wonderful paint purchased this for 3 "older" decks and it covered beautifully !! wood was so dry I had to order another 5 gals but it is well worth it . Deck looks new ! color is like a terra cotta very nice I tried to post pic but it was too big :( will not go wrong with this unless it backfires on us in the winter and does not hold up to temps.( or gets slippery) October 1, 2013
