Refurbished wood that has been sanded

I have removed all decking, removed all screws and turned over the wood and sanded the better side. It had few drips of old stain from other side which were sanded 99-100% off . Boards look yellow with a few spots here and there that are questionable for cleaning or just more sanding. Deck will be 5 square. Can you suggest the best prep before installation of your Deck over? The board with all the blue that is down will be removed. Didn't like it once it was down. FYI: We lowered the deck over 2 steps and reused all the wood. Thanks for any help.

Hello armymom,
Great question. Once the surface has been sanded, then we recommend using our All-In-One Wood Cleaner No. 63 over the entire deck. After using our cleaner, we recommend letting the surface completely dry and then applying 2 coats of our DeckOver.
Best wishes,
Kevin

Hello John,
Thanks for your question. Our DeckOver stain is not designed to stand up to the wear expected on garage floors, so we'd recommend against applying it there. You might instead consider our 1-Part Epoxy Floor Paint: http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-1-Gal-PFC-20-Coronado-1-Part-Epoxy-Concrete-and-Garage-Floor-Paint-93001/203936906?keyword=behr+1-part+epoxy+coronado (notice: I gave a link Read More

For prep, we recommend removing any loose or peeled old paint, sanding the frayed edges of that coating smooth, lightly sanding any areas of the coating that are glossy, spot etching any bare concrete, cleaning the whole surface, spot priming any bare concrete with a product like our No. 880 Bonding Primer, and then applying the paint. Please follow all label instructions for best results, and well wishes!

Hello Chip,
Thanks for your question. Yes, it's okay that the deck was recently power washed, and yes, we would recommend prepping the surface with a product like our No. 63 Wood Cleaner which will open up the pores of the wood to promote adhesion. Please be sure to follow all label instructions, and best wishes.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible We have an old wrap around deck that was in bad shape, lots of splinters, looked bad, so tried this to restore it. It actually worked pretty good, no splinters you can walk around barefooted and looked pretty good. For a while anyway, about a week! Then started looking really dirty, like it has a layer of dirt on it. Can't clean it off!! Tried spraying it, mopping it, scrubbing it and it still looks horrible!! Have not had any trouble with it peeling on the actual covered areas, which is why I gave it 2 stars, but on outside areas with no cover it is peeling. Stairs are being redone now, going to try Rust-Oleum 4X restore, see how it does and how it looks! Keeping my fingers crossed!!!! June 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Terrific product! Although a bit more time consuming to apply - this product did exactly what it promised. It made my older deck look new. If you are using it for a new deck - the time involved would make it less productive. I would recommend this to anybody looking to take an old deck with less than perfect boards and make it look new. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Deck over paint Works like the advertisement says, covers very well - very thick. August 11, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Does Not Stand the Test of Time I applied two coats of Woodbridge Deckover to our two level deck; the deck had been neglected for a quite a while and had a lot of cracks. The Deckover sealed up many of the cracks, which was fantastic. However, the paint quickly began to peel and crack - moving anything over the deck, such as lawn chairs, causes near immediate cracking and flaking to take place. in fact, having applied the Deckover in the fall, and it's only the beginning of spring...well, I can't imagine what the deck will look like in another winter's time.... At the end of the day, Deckover is simply a thick paint. Imagine running/playing/walking/dragging things over your bedroom wall - it won't look pretty if you do that! So, you are essentially doing the same thing with your deck when applying a coat of paint to it and then running/walking/playing/etc on it. I wouldn't recommend it, quite frankly. Stick with a stain. Easier to apply, doesn't scratch as easily, and is a simpler, tested product. That's my pretty amateur assessment! May 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks Great! About 5 years earlier I had applied Thompsons Water Seal which seemed to work fine for a couple of years, but the deck had become gray colored and had some green mold growing on it. I wanted something that would look good and last longer than just a couple of years. After some research, I settled on Behr Deck Over, in the color of Woodbridge SC-116. I power washed my ten year old deck, which took about 15 hours over 3 days. I then let it dry for a few days before applying the first coat. The first coat was applied using a roller and brush on an overcast day with a temperature of about 75 degrees.. A second coat was applied 3 days after the first, and there was no rain in between coats. I'm very pleased so far with the results. Deck looks great and many of the cracks, holes, chips filled in nicely. There are a few cracks that were not filled in, but I believe this is due to my application, which wasn't as thick as it probably should have been. I have not experienced any of the pealing or other problems. that other reviewers report. My suggestion is to take the time to clean the surface thoroughly, then follow the application instructions exactly. All in, I spent about 40 hours preparing the deck and applying the coating. Be sure your deck is completely dry before application, and that there is no rain in the forecast for at least 24 hours after the application. With a little luck, you'll have the same success as I have had. October 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by exceptional product the deckover was easy to spread. I even had a 3 yr old helping. It's consistency was excellent and I only had to APPLY 2 COATS TO A DECK WAS WAS NEGLECTED FOR 10 YEAR. Awesome product. July 22, 2014
