Is the specified coverage of 375 sq feet for one coat or for the two coats that is stated is required. Meaning if I have 375 sq feet to cover, do I need one 5 gallon product or two 5 gallon products?
Asked by: scotterk
Hi scotterk, Thanks for writing in with your question. Your 5-gallon container will be enough for two coats over an area that is 375 square feet. Your first coat will take 2.5 gallons, same as your second coat. Good luck with your project! Regards, Giovanna

The top of my deck was replaced years ago.

We put nails between the boards expecting the the gaps would get bigger when it dried out but that did not happen. I am planning to use your Deck Over, but the spacing between the boards are so close together. Do I need to create weep holes because the deck over will cover the gaps.
Asked by: tinner
Hi tinner. I would only recommend this if your deck is completely enclosed and will trap water that can't air dry if it rains. Otherwise, this isn't required. Good luck on your project - Vince

3years a go I used this product now it time to do it Again what do I need to do to perp the deck.

Asked by: Walt
Hi Walt, Thanks for your question! To start, you want to make sure the older coating is in good condition (make sure to sand any spots that are peeling or chipping off). Then, clean the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner (, allow the surface to completely dry, and apply 2 new coats. If you just need a maintenance coat to freshen up the color, clean the surface and apply 1 coat. Best wishes for your project! - Sara

Can you put a clear sealer over it? This would help keep it clean and clean eiser.

Asked by: Randy
Hello Randy, We appreciate your question! If this product will be applied to a concrete surface, then there is the option to topcoat with either our No. 985 Wet-Look Sealer or our No. 986 Low-Lustre Sealer. For wood surfaces, we don't have any products that are designed to topcoat DeckOver, but you might check with Home Depot for a possible coating of another brand. Please be sure to follow all label instructions for best results. Well wishes for your project!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT SOLUTION I had a greyed out porch deck with many small cracks and splinters. I thought I would try this product after seeing the commercial several times. IT LOOKS FANTASTIC on my front porch. It smoothed out all the roughness, and filled in the cracks. I did my project with a brush, and found that I didn't need a second coat because I worked it in very well with the brush! I have recommended it to family and friends that were interested in trying it themselves. NOW I need to find a coordinating stain for the house!!!! I will choose a BEHR product for that too!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deck looks new again! I painted/stained my deck 3 years ago and it looked good for about 3 months then it began to come off where it didn't seem to have adhered to the wood. This time I tried the BEHR. Same story, washed the deck, let it dry and then apply with the roller.WOW there is a big difference the BEHR is thicker and covers a lot smoother than the other stuff,it seems to adhere better and filled in the cracks the other didn't,it dried pretty quickly and the deck looks like a new deck again I am impressed with the quality of this product. I will stick with this from now on,it looks that good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff... follow directions! Well this stuff works great as long as you follow instructions. Some have mentioned that they didn't use a 2nd coat but you really should and for good reason. It fills cracks very good but even better with the 2nd coat and a brush on should be recommended, don't use a roller you won't get into the middle of the boards or cracks as well. Be sure to use a dust mask as this stuff is very strong on the ammonia and will make you sick if you are standing over it for even a few minutes. I was able to re-apply 2nd coat in about 3-4 hours the can recommends 6-7 I believe which is still a good number to hit. DO NOT apply in direct sunlight if temps are over 60 degrees as it will dry even faster and smear badly. Last - be aware that this stuff absorbs sunlight and heat so you can NOT walk on this barefoot while the mid day sun is shining. I've measured well over 120degrees off mine when the sun was directly on it in a 80 degree temp day so you will burn bottoms of feet as I'm sure the temps will go higher! So follow directions - 2 Coats must be used or you will pay the price later (fill those cracks good to prevent water from getting into them!). use a mask when applying to avoid inhaling fumes and don't walk on bare foot in direct sunlight. I've gone thru 7 gallons on a deck that I used to do with regular stain for 2 gallons and it has taken me about 3-4 days when only applying in the shade of the afternoon and the deck was shaded by house from setting sun. I've snapped a during picture just to show how nice it looks from what it used to look like and to try to win the $1000 price :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Deckover on a neglected (10 years) deck Application in September was not difficult, the worst part was washing the deck before painting. So far, we are very impressed with the results. Deckover filled cracks and improved the appearance of the 30+ year old deck on the back of the house. It did take a few days to completely dry. I am not sure what will happen over the winter - Ohio has harsh ones . . . I may write another review in the Spring . . . The color was California Rustic

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product dries like cement I loved this product I was very skeptical as my deck 12x12 was old and depilitated. It looks awsome. I suprised my husband who is a painter and he loved it. But, on the brochure it says it covers 50 sq ft in 2 coats and on the can it says it covers 400 sq ft. My recommendation is your deck may not need two coats as it covers wonderfully. Also dried very fast. Money well spent. The reviews definately helped my decison.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like what I see so far! I've used transparent stain on many decks and will probably never go back unless it's a true redwood deck. My current deck is pressure treated and I live in the mid-west, which means harsh winter elements. My deck was built in 2008 and was cracking in many places...mainly due to the contractor using heart wood. If you can avoid heart wood then do it! Heart wood is easy to see; look at the end of the board and if you see a tight circular pattern the it is from the center of the tree. Heart wood inevitably warp, split and curl. It's cheap for the builder and expensive to maintain. I saw this because that's what I'm applying this product to. My board have slight to moderate cracks and I wanted something to fill them to prevent water going in, freezing and causing more damage. The product claims it can fill 1/4" cracks or gaps...well, maybe if you build it up in the right condition. I found that I could fill hairline to 1/16" gaps fairly easy, but not by rolling alone. I had to zig zag the roller back and forth across the board in order to fill them and if you back rolled too much your roller would pull it out. I bought a little more than I needed so I wouldn't worry about running out and to lay it on heavy to reduce my time with the roller. I hate painting because I'm such a perfectionist so it takes me forever. I figured I'd go with heavy material quantity and speed through it and I was right. This stuff is thick and if you want to do other things that day then figure out if its worth another $30! I ran two coats on a 15x12 deck plus stairs and with perfect weather conditions (oxymoron for mid-west...not Southern CA where I grew up) and finished in 5 hours and about 3.5 gallons. Of course my son who is home from college helped...I do suggest having help. If the paint is in the sun it will develop a dry film on top so try to keep in the shade and never let rollers or brushes sit out while grabbing a sandwich. Wrap things in plastic or leave submerged. I should mention that I did not do the railing...just walking surface. The end result is what I expected, filled cracks (after two coats the larger cracks will need a 3rd coat...the paint shrinks a little or gravity sucked it in deeper and some cracks opened up) and an overall very nice surface...looks smooth and even. The deck looks new again, not too gritty texture to walk on with bare feet, feels fine. The product is so new there isn't a year warranty so I didn't give it the highest rating and I can't see this filling 1/4" gaps easily. In my opinion it seems like a very durable material and will protect well and should last more than the one year the previous transparent stain lasted. My only concern is that sliding furniture may gouge or leave marks. This unit is my rental so I won't know for another month or so how it will hold up to BBQs and patio furniture...I do believe that I will get at least 3-4 good years out of it all things considered.
