Customer Questions & Answers

can you place potted plants on top of it and water it daily I would be applying it to a small cement patio

Asked by: tom
Hello tom, Thanks for your question. Pots of plants can be placed on the coating after the 72-hour cure time. Getting some incidental water splashing from watering the plants is okay. Just to reduce the wear on the coating, though, you might consider wiping or using a squeegee to remove the standing water whenever possible. Well wishes for your project!

Can we repainted over the original application of Deck Over?

We painted our deck with Deck Over 2 years ago and the ends are peeling, in spite of very careful preparation. We plan to wire brush the peeling areas and reapply. We would like to change the color and repaint the entire deck with Deck Over. Is that recommend? What prep should we do?
Asked by: JKV
Hi JKV, Thank you for your question! We recommend sanding down the loose peeling paint and cleaning the surface before re-application.

Will this work over wood which has been previously coated with Behr solid color oil stain.

Twenty three year old deck. Oil based products used previously. Worried about adhesion of water based products.
Asked by: Finisher
Hi Finisher, Thanks for your question! As long as the previous coating is cleaned and in sound condition, you can apply Behr Premium DeckOver.

5 gal. #SC-122 Redwood Naturaltone Wood and Concrete Coating is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 70.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I bought two 5 gallon containers of this stuff, as well as the treatment prep solution to clean the deck off with first. I followed directions pretty much to a “T” though 2 coats of it...even doing this in a late Fall weekend when the weather wouldn’t cause issues. Looked great when it went on and was thinking with that strong ammonia odor that this stuff was binding to my wood really well. Was pretty pleased with it for many months. However, after this past winter, I have cracking & peeling just about everywhere including the hand rails that don’t get hardly any touch. Over $400 down the drain if you add up all the supplies this took. VERY disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not put this stuff on your deck! I bought this product to make a newer addition match the older part of my deck. It was time consuming and difficult to apply. We used 2 coats as recommended. It covered well and did mask the difference in age of the 2 sections. My first complaint was that it made the surface of the deck (which surrounds a pool) incredibly hot and impossible to walk on without shoes. Now after only 2 years the finish is cracking and peeling. It looks terrible. My once lovely deck is an eyesore! A waste of time and money that destroyed my deck, which was a considerable investment and can not be presently replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic product My deck wasn't in bad shape but had plenty of small cracks and remnants of a previous paint job. I gave it a good stripping with my belt sander and applied a few coats of the Behr. In short, it worked like a charm! Be warned: this stuff is pretty think out of the can. Use a 1/2" nap roller with small back and forth rolls to work the product in to the cracks in the wood. Be prepared to get a second coat down as well. Finally, I used the product with grit in it for traction. It does its job well but will catch dirt off your shoes. I went with a beige color that shows the dirt. Bad on me but a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brought the old deck back to life Bought this because my 20 year old deck was looking pretty bad. Went on nicely, but watch your dripping. Paint dries fast and the drips need to be wiped up or they are there for good. Make sure you clean your deck as recommended before painting or it doesn't adhere as well. All in all I would recommend this product for renewing old decks and it also made it slip resistant which is nice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chipping and peeling off like crazy. Do not buy!! Like the reviews that are good for this product, it looked great when initially applied. I did 2 coats and it looked amazing. Chipping and peeling is occurring all over my deck now (less than 2 years after applying). It looks terrible. What is still on there is impossible to clean. Any dirt that ends up on it is impossible to get off. What a waste of time and money. Stay away!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Product Too bad you can't give it a '0.' I have a large deck (2 actually). Followed the directions to a "T." Sanding, 2 coats, the whole nine yards. Did this in August. After the first snow in November, the peeling began. Worst deck product on the market. If I had not followed the directions verbatim, I wouldn't be voicing these complaints. However, everything was done down to the last detail. Don't buy this product. You'll be re-finishing your deck immediately. I can't stress this enough.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Thinking of using this? Don't! I put this product on bare pressure treated (and aged) lumber. Two years later and it is peeling and flaking off. Now I have to figure out how to remove it so I can use a better product. My deck looks terrible and this product is to blame. Terrible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk !!! DO NOT put on concrete patio !! four months and it's filthy. Does not come clean . I am furious with this company. Applied to concrete patio. After just four months it's filthy dirty and can not be cleaned. It attracts dirt. Everything shows on patio. shoe marks, furniture marks. Worst part is that is seems to remain soft enough to let dirt ground in. It never hardens like an epoxy. I don't know what the heck to do with my patio now. How the am I going to fix this. I should have used a stain. I was told to use something from Sherwin Williams and not use Home Depot products. Should have listened. My patio is ruined !! Cal M. Lake Placid. Florida
