I bought two 5 gallon containers of this stuff, as well as the treatment prep solution to clean the deck off with first. I followed directions pretty much to a âTâ though 2 coats of it...even doing this in a late Fall weekend when the weather wouldnât cause issues. Looked great when it went on and was thinking with that strong ammonia odor that this stuff was binding to my wood really well. Was pretty pleased with it for many months. However, after this past winter, I have cracking & peeling just about everywhere including the hand rails that donât get hardly any touch. Over $400 down the drain if you add up all the supplies this took. VERY disappointed.

I was very excited when I first purchased this product. My deck was terrible and after watching the videos and looking at the reviews I decided on this product. It looked so easy in the videos.
Well, after taking the time (seemed like forever) to completely sand and prepare my deck, I started to apply the Deck-over. First of all, it was so clumpy and thick it was almost impossible to roll on. I used the recommended roller and everything. Then it used so much just to cover a small surface, i ended up having to buy at least twice what i originally planned.
It took way more time, and far more money than I had planned to do this project, and worst of all, less than one year later it is cracking, peeling, and blistering all over. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone that does not wish to have to do all the work over again in another year or two. Also, it is extremely hard to keep clean, the redwood color shows every speck of dust and no broom or hose seems to get it off. Maybe if you used a pressure washer, but I'm sure that would cause the paint to peel and blister faster.
P.S. (some people are saying the deck with the deck-over looks worse than before, very disappointed in this product.)

Seemed like a great idea and value a year ago.
Was recommended and pushed by the Home Depot staff.
Prepped as directed and loved the result. A year ago I would have given it a 5 star rating. That was a year ago. In less than a year the paint is peeling and in some areas the nails and screws have rusted through the paint.
Waiting to see how Behr intend to resolve this issue. Time and money spent- should have gone with the more expensive product. Deckover was too new to get a true impression from online reviews.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Missy DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!!!!
Spent at least 400 hours, using all of the recommended products, striping, cleaning, drying etc....only applied early in the day or late in evening to avoid extreme temp's. Very thick, difficult to apply, especially to railings and uprights, had to go get 3 more gallons, even after over estimating in the first place. Looked good to begin with, but after the first year, it just started coming off, in big strips, pealing off like a banana, every time I hose it off, more peals off, including railings and up rights that have no stress or wear on them. It will probably take another 400 hours of my time to get rid of it so that I can start over with another, tried and true product.

I followed the directions to redo my 14x28 deck to the letter. Two applications of deck cleaner followed by two coats of deck over. As advertised, it greatly improved the look of the old deck and it's very durable. End of good news⦠I have two dogs and their paw prints on the deck from playing in the yard are unavoidable. No problem. I just hosed down the refinished deck and the paw prints seemed to disappear. Not so. When the water dried, the dirty prints were still plainly visible. So i re-rinsed, using as much water pressure as possible. No luck To get them off, I must either power wash or use a mop and soapy water. Since the dogs are out every day, I have a dirty deck every day. Behr needs to research this problem and make amends for a defective product.
