I applied DeckOver to our 16 year old deck back in 2013, and four years later, it has held up extremely well with very little chipping, Last year I just touched up the few spots that had chipped. So far it has worked out much better than the Cabot stain I used to apply every other year. Now this year I am in the process of recoating the entire deck in the same color and finish just to freshen it up.. I'm hoping that the recoat holds up as well as the original coat. If I can do this just every 4-5 years I'll be satisfied.

Despite the instructions enclosed with the product being somewhat different than what is advertised, I found the product to perform well. I installed this on a 20 year old wood deck that was severely weathered. A few seriously damaged boards were replaced, and surface prep consisted of pressure washing and installing new screws. I brushed on the first coat to get complete coverage and fill voids and cracks, and a day later brushed on the second coat, immediately following up with a roller to get some surface texture. This is not how the instructions are written, but I achieved a uniform surface that looks awesome this way. Color was not what I expected, but I am very happy with the result. I only installed this 2 weeks ago, so no long term performance data. I found this product to be good value for the money, and am using it again on another deck and have recommended it to friends.

BEHR indoor and outdoor paints have been my number one go to paints for years, so I thought I couldn't go wrong with the DeckOver line. I cleaned the deck as directed, filled cracks first and put on two coats. I have to say the first year looked great and I was really happy, but now almost exactly 1 year later, I'm very disappointed. The paint is coming off every flat surface of the deck in giant flakes. I usually stain every 3 years so I expected DeckOver to do as well or better, and it didn't. Now I'm not sure how to fix it. I may pressure wash to get most of it off, but I'm afraid I'll have to rent a floor sander to get it all off. This looks like I made an expensive mistake that has really shook my trust in BEHR paint. I did notice that Home Depot has really cut back their offering of DeckOver paints, which makes me wonder if this is a large problem. On a side note, I couldn't read some of the information this morning on the paint can before posting, so I tried to scrape off a little to read it and the paint came off in a large flake just like on my deck. This stuff doesn't stick to anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT deck paint Did the pool deck this past weekend. Oh my goodness did it come out nice and cover well with one coat BUT I did put on the second coat (as recommended), Also prepped it well- scraped and wire brushed the old paint and used the cleaner as recommended. Also letting it cure well before all the traffic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from California Rustic dries to the color of Cedar First, if you are shopping on line and color matching is important to you - STOP! The colors represented are many shades darker than when actually applied and dries. Not a big deal to me, but better to shop at the store and buy sample color if color is important. I bought the 5 gal size and paid 260 to have someone paint my 12 x 12 deck, stairs and railings. My goal was simple. Improve a 30 yo deck that had never seen stain or color in it's lifetime. I am a big fan of keeping maintenance free surfaces, just that, but this looked really sad. So I wanted to improve the looks, and get some more life out of the deck and to cover the splinters. Painter did not say it was difficult to apply or other issues. Only that it drank up paint, but to be expected on an unpainted 30 yo wood structure. Still some paint left. Deck is in shade most of day, so, the deck temp and outside temp were never above 80 degrees. Hand scraped roughest areas and painted. No pressure wash, no degrease etc,(although there was none). Took 7 hours first day, dried over night and returned next day and second coat took 3 hours has dried overnight and see for yourself. It did not cover holes or large cracks, but then I did not expect it to. Looks much better and no splinters I will wait 72 hours or longer before using it. No notice of white rising to surface or footprint issues, yet. I assume the foot prints are due to early use inside of 72 hours of curing time as it is still slightly tacky to the touch even this morning(day 3) no rain or heat over 80 as of now. Hoping the adherence issues many have cited are due to northern winter, time will tell. Seems to be great to me. Check the pix for your own decision. I would use again, just not buy it online(although home delivery is quick and convenient). I did not want the deck to "make a statement" and therefore chose a dark shade, but as stated it dried closer to the Cedar depiction than the CR depiction. It matches my brick perfectly, so no biggie, just more noticeable than I was going for! But, for an investment price of 400 bucks, I think it was well spent, check pix to see of you agree.
