Hello Marianne,
We appreciate your question. That might be okay, but it's doubtful that the wood would be dry enough the next day. We recommend for it to be completely dry to the touch or to have a moisture content of 10% or less.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by More Battleship Gray than Driftwood and Forget upright surfaces Paint was easy to apply. Has been about 6 months since application. It appears to be satisfactory on the flat deck surface, but it simply is peeling off all over the place on any upright surfaces, such as the front of stairs or the ends of the wood planks. So, if you are happy with the ends of your boards not being painted, that is what you will apparently end up with. April 4, 2014
