We bought 5 - 5gallon containers of this product. We prepped as suggested, painted as suggested and by the end of the season a lot of the paint peeled off! Lots of money and time totally wasted! We are not the only ones that had this problem with this product.
This year we are flipping all of the deck boards over (on a 35 ft deck) and restaining. them with a different product. Very disappointed!!! I do not recommend this product at all. Can't even get our money back. Lesson learned.
Ps: we were big fans of Behr products. We always use Behr paint, etc. now we are really skeptical. Unfortunately.

Applied last year. Used the exact procedure recommended. Looked great for the year. This year it's peeling like crazy! Power washing for 2 days with nozzle 2 inches from deck on each plank. Still looks dirty and paint is flying off. Now I have more work than last year!! Try something else.

I put this product on bare pressure treated (and aged) lumber. Two years later and it is peeling and flaking off. Now I have to figure out how to remove it so I can use a better product. My deck looks terrible and this product is to blame. Terrible.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bob Behr Deckover Smooth Finish vs. Textured
I live in Bremerton, WA and we get a good share of rain here. We don't get much very cold weather, but it generally snows a few times each winter and can drop in the teens a few weeks per year. It also can get into the 90's for 30ish days per year in the summer months.
I used the smooth finish product over previously treated fir 2X6 decking. It hadn't been treated for at least 5 years prior to my using the Behr deckover product.
I used the Cape Cod Gray Smooth finish paint on my 600 sq ft deck after sanding and totally drying my wood. It peeled over 40% within the first winter. Totally dissatisfied and frustrated. I have used the Textured Cape Cod Gray on enclosed cargo trailer floors with good luck, though. So I pressure washed my peeling deck, sanded peeling spots, and let dry. I then applied the Cape Cod Gray TEXTURED product and it's been a good choice for me. It dries almost alike it has a hard plastic or even a concrete additive in it. I'm very happy so far with the TEXTURED PRODUCT. I'm waiting for next winter to come to confirm, but I'm confident it'll old up.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by LAW Don't use BEHR on your deck!
We have always used Behr on interior projects and love it. We trusted that the deck over would be a great product and give us a well protected deck....WRONG! It has peeled and you can't get it off. We spent hours scraping and have decided to dig the paint out of the screws and flip the boards. If you are trying to decide if you should use this product (or similar products...rustoleum, olympic, etc) DON'T do it!!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hineshill Great Product
Just used this on my 20 year-old porch that had been stained and painted. Had to do alot of scrapping before applying but it worked just as it said it would. Just don't buy too much. I covered almost 450 sq. ft with 5 gallons and did apply two coats. Had bought a second 5 gallons as I thought it was 375 sq. per 5 gallons. Couldn't return it so sold it to a friend. Best part is it cleans up with water!!!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Joe1MD Would never buy again - good luck removing it
Baltimore Maryland - Memorial Day weekend 2013: Bought traditional behr deck stain then saw the commercial of people dancing on a deck with deckover so returned the stain and bought the 5 gallon bucket. I had high hopes for the product. I pre-treated/prepped my deck according to the guidelines, removed all existing stain with behr cleaner, stripper, sanded some rough spots, brushed and rinsed clean everywhere. Let dry for a good 2 weeks. The product applied fine, it self leveled for the most part. It looked great after finishing.
Year 1 (2014) it still looked good.
year 2 (2015) started peeling in small parts on the railing where it was hit with sun all day.
year 3 (2016) is a complete disaster. Large sheets are peeling off. chipping paint is everywhere. It blows onto my neighbors property and i'm constantly apologizing and cleaning up the trash paint chips.
This product is very poor. what's worse is the work that will be required to strip the remnants. i can't decide whether i will hire someone or spend the 20-30 hrs myself stripping this horrible product, sanding and re-staining with a traditional product. Most likely it wont be behr.
i would not recommend this. it is a short term, pricey solution, there are much better options.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Russ Outstanding.
I have a very large deck, and purchased 20 gallons. I only needed about 3.5 for the first coat. It covered so well, that I probably will not put on another this year. It covered better than what I estimated. I ordered directly from Home Depot and was especially pleased with the free delivery and the product was delivered in 3 work days. It was easy to put down and the quality and color was exactly what I expected. In addition, the was no discoloring when I overlapped. I would highly recommend this product for decks. I put the product down with a roller, and clean up was easy with just a hose. Outstanding product and looks great.
