I put Thompson watersealer on the deck last year to protect it threw the winter. It peeled a little. So we powerwashed it. Deckover will work now?

Asked by: Tom
Hi, Tom. Our DeckOver product should work fine. Just be sure all of the loose coating is removed and the deck is cleaned with our 63 Wood Cleaner. The Home Depot associates should be able to assist you if you need help. Best of luck with your project - Vince

Have old porch-want to last another year. Can I use this paint over painted deck that has been somewhat sanded & painted

Asked by: Laurac
Hello Laurac, Thank you for your interest in our products. Yes, our product can be used over a previously painted surface. We would just suggest removing any loose paint and cleaning the surface with our No. 63 Cleaner. Best regards, Kevin

I just finished putting two coats of this. I like the color, but would like a little more sheen. Is there anything clear that I can coat the surface with that won't ruin what we already did?
Asked by: Person
Hi Person, I have good news! You can use either our Low-Lustre or our Wet-Look Sealer. They’re both clear decorative coatings. The difference between the two is that Wet-Look is glossier than Low-Lustre. Hope this helps! -Doris

Customer Reviews

5 gal. #SC-145 Desert Sand Wood and Concrete Coating is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY Disappointed August of 2013 we bought 15 gallons to refresh our deck. Gave it 3 coats and look acceptable. Well, we had a snowy winter and now it looks awful. It is peeling in sheets on much of the deck. I have no idea what we are going to do now. I am not sure if there is a solution. There was no salt applied to the deck so that was not an issue. I am truly devastated having spent almost $500 for this product. I cannot afford to have the deck rebuilt so I am stuck with a terrible deck on my home. I have used Behr products before and they are always very good. I guess I am truly stuck!!!! I have always been a Home Depot guy and actually worked there for a while 2 years ago.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An perfect for our needs Read all the good and bad reviews and decided to give it a try. Our deck wasn't touched by the previous owners and is about ten years old. Alright condition but needed help. Choices were to tear it down and start over or try this or the other brands. Liked the texture of the Behr on the sample so went with it. Did all vertical services in a dark coffee and horizontal in sand to minimize summer heat on the feat. The bottom line is the deck now looks great. Will last a few more years and saved thousands that we need for the interior renovations. Read the directions and it is what it says it is. It is not a high end stain. It covers defects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best product for wood deck I disagree with most of the negative reviews on this product. I live in Georgia, My 11 year old wood deck is exposed to the sun with hardly any shade. It gets allot of extreme weather. Hot, humid, wet, cold, freezing rain, snow etc. Every Previous products only last two summers before it needs to be treated again. Deckover is on its third summer and still looks great. I expect it to last another two years. Some users experienced peeling but I have not. A good paint job is only as good as the preparation. The surface must be clean and dry for a good bond. Peeling means poor bond. I first treated my deck with a product called JoMax then thoroughly power washed with water. Then let dry for 24 hours before application. I did not use a roller I brushed on the product. A roller applies the product too thin in my opinion. I also used two coats and it turned out fabulous. We use allot of potted plants and the product also resists stains. A few word of warning however, don't apply in hot sun. It dries fast and your brush will load up. I used a large brush and had to clean it several times.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from won't last a full year Incredibly expensive, doesn't hold up to high sun and winter weather. Just spent the day power washing the loose stuff off. What hasn't already peeled off comes off in big chunks with little effort. I might just rake up all the pieces blown off the deck and send it back to BEHR.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don't forget the primer! I wanted to make sure I passed on some important information on this product. I noticed that no one mentioned in any reviews (except for one) that you have to put primer down first. I wish I would of read that detail in the product information. In the days of "no primer needed" or "primer already added", it made what I thought was going to be an easy project a bit more labor intensive. It was used on concrete and due to things I had previously read, knew the product could be super thick and a bit hard to work with.....yes, thick but I thought it wasn't that hard to apply. Be prepared, it's got a strong, make sure you have a lot of ventilation (if doing a garage, etc.) Overall, the product is fine just bummed that you have to use primer, first. The only reason I'm not recommending the product is because I've tried others that need no priming, if that part doesn't bother you then I'm sure you'll be happy with this...If you dribble or splash, try to clean immediately or it's there forever...the sunnier the area the faster it will'll be fine as long as you are careful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT COVERAGE, GREAT COLOR = AWESOME RESULTS!!! I wanted to bring our pool deck back to life, after seeking for several options, my wife and I liked the pattern that was on our cool deck but only after 2 1/2 years of built, the mainteneance required to have it good looking were way to much. (Living in Puerto Rico and receiving lots of rain it required constant preasure washing in order to avoid mold to acumulate in the pattern design). We decided to try the Behr Deck Over and it broght our deck back to life! It looked great after the first coat but when we put in the second coat it looked even better!!! Our deck looks good as new and we love how easy is to clean this; it is not slippery when wet (a plus for a pool deck) but it is easy on your feet at the same time! several advises from our end, I had a 800 sqft area and purchased four 5 Gal. paint we used 3 1/2, this paint is very thick and it has a strong odor when you open the paint. (not a problem for us since we were painting our deck in an open area). Start early in the morning since it is not recommended to be applied in temperatures of over 90 degrees. In our case we waited 24 hours between coats in order to allow them to dry evenly between each other. Since it is very thick it takes a while and a little effort to apply, but trust me you will love the results. This was an excellent weekend project for my wife and I. We love been in the outdoors and with a great inviting deck this is a dream come truth!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly as advertised. We repainted a 1200 sq ft outdoor deck, and we extremely pleased with the product. Problem areas in the wood were nicely covered by the paint. We covered it with 2 coats and expect it to last for several years. Would certainly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Totally revived an old picnic table This premium Deck Over did a marvelous job reviving an old, weathered picnic table. It applies easily (though it's quite thick) and fills in the wood cracks and crannies. See the pictures. I used an old paint brush to apply it, which wasn't worth saving, so I can't comment on cleanup as I just threw out the brush. The table and benches have a new life and will be used hard this (and future summers).
