Answer:
Hello Chip,
Thanks for your question. Yes, it's okay that the deck was recently power washed, and yes, we would recommend prepping the surface with a product like our No. 63 Wood Cleaner which will open up the pores of the wood to promote adhesion. Please be sure to follow all label instructions, and best wishes.

I have removed all decking, removed all screws and turned over the wood and sanded the better side. It had few drips of old stain from other side which were sanded 99-100% off . Boards look yellow with a few spots here and there that are questionable for cleaning or just more sanding. Deck will be 5 square. Can you suggest the best prep before installation of your Deck over? The board with all the blue that is down will be removed. Didn't like it once it was down. FYI: We lowered the deck over 2 steps and reused all the wood. Thanks for any help.

Answer:
Hello armymom,
Great question. Once the surface has been sanded, then we recommend using our All-In-One Wood Cleaner No. 63 over the entire deck. After using our cleaner, we recommend letting the surface completely dry and then applying 2 coats of our DeckOver.
Best wishes,
Kevin

Hello John,
Thanks for your question. Our DeckOver stain is not designed to stand up to the wear expected on garage floors, so we'd recommend against applying it there. You might instead consider our 1-Part Epoxy Floor Paint: http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-1-Gal-PFC-20-Coronado-1-Part-Epoxy-Concrete-and-Garage-Floor-Paint-93001/203936906?keyword=behr+1-part+epoxy+coronado (notice: I gave a link Read More

For prep, we recommend removing any loose or peeled old paint, sanding the frayed edges of that coating smooth, lightly sanding any areas of the coating that are glossy, spot etching any bare concrete, cleaning the whole surface, spot priming any bare concrete with a product like our No. 880 Bonding Primer, and then applying the paint. Please follow all label instructions for best results, and well wishes!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by VERY Disappointed August of 2013 we bought 15 gallons to refresh our deck. Gave it 3 coats and look acceptable. Well, we had a snowy winter and now it looks awful. It is peeling in sheets on much of the deck. I have no idea what we are going to do now. I am not sure if there is a solution. There was no salt applied to the deck so that was not an issue. I am truly devastated having spent almost $500 for this product. I cannot afford to have the deck rebuilt so I am stuck with a terrible deck on my home. I have used Behr products before and they are always very good. I guess I am truly stuck!!!! I have always been a Home Depot guy and actually worked there for a while 2 years ago. April 12, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst purchase ever! We applied Deckover to our large deck and our garden boxes during late summer/early fall. By winter, we could already see some bubbling and the paint coming off. By the following summer, the deck looked pretty bad, with patches of paint missing. Two summers later, almost all the paint has bubbled off. We will have to scrape off the paint and start all over. The picture is without any scraping...So much for the guarantee! May 30, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by awful Product not only too hot to walk on no matter light or dark. - after one year even new wood is splitting under paint- Product should not be used in Florida and I put three coats of this on. Now I have to figure out how to get it off. June 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The BEST on concrete. NOT the best on wood. I gave this product a 5 star rating when it is applied to 'concrete' only. I've used this on my driveway and my walkway, and it has lasted beautifully! Best product EVER for concrete. However, on wood, within months this product is bubbling and peeling off. Shame in that regard. Would not buy for wood decking. However, 'highly' recommended for any concrete application! April 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Purchase ever My opinion this product is not worth you time and money May 11, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Sorry Product, waste of money and effort! Comments: Recently, at the advice of your in-store paint expert I bought, not in stock in this quanity, home delivery, on line 6 x 5 gallons of Behr Deck Over. This is the sorriest excuse for a swimming pool and patio deck I have ever used. We followed every direction to an extreme, we hired a very good crew to do the work. This product has bubbles in every area. Behr agent asked some dumb questions and gave advice that is useless. We sanded a few of the bubbles out to bare concrete, cleaned and reapplied per instructions. The repairs had bubbles. We have had this deck and porch for 33 years, I have used Home Depot's products twice before with great success. Deck Over is not worth the plastic bucket it came in. August 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly as advertised. We repainted a 1200 sq ft outdoor deck, and we extremely pleased with the product. Problem areas in the wood were nicely covered by the paint. We covered it with 2 coats and expect it to last for several years. Would certainly recommend! September 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EXCELLENT COVERAGE, GREAT COLOR = AWESOME RESULTS!!! I wanted to bring our pool deck back to life, after seeking for several options, my wife and I liked the pattern that was on our cool deck but only after 2 1/2 years of built, the mainteneance required to have it good looking were way to much. (Living in Puerto Rico and receiving lots of rain it required constant preasure washing in order to avoid mold to acumulate in the pattern design). We decided to try the Behr Deck Over and it broght our deck back to life! It looked great after the first coat but when we put in the second coat it looked even better!!! Our deck looks good as new and we love how easy is to clean this; it is not slippery when wet (a plus for a pool deck) but it is easy on your feet at the same time! several advises from our end, I had a 800 sqft area and purchased four 5 Gal. paint we used 3 1/2, this paint is very thick and it has a strong odor when you open the paint. (not a problem for us since we were painting our deck in an open area). Start early in the morning since it is not recommended to be applied in temperatures of over 90 degrees. In our case we waited 24 hours between coats in order to allow them to dry evenly between each other. Since it is very thick it takes a while and a little effort to apply, but trust me you will love the results. This was an excellent weekend project for my wife and I. We love been in the outdoors and with a great inviting deck this is a dream come truth!!!! July 29, 2013
