Customer Questions & Answers

I used this is on my interior original hardwood floors and wanted to know what I should mop with to clean...

Asked by: Bmw9
Hello Bmw9, Thanks for your support of Behr products. For light dirt stains, we recommend using soap and water. If it's more difficult to clean, then there's the option to use a concrete cleaner/degreaser (even for wood surfaces). Be sure to test out the cleaner first to ensure it's working. Well wishes for your project! -Joshua

Does this paint need an undercoat before application

Do I need to first apply an undercoat before applying this paint. Deck has been washed clean of all growth and dirt
Asked by: Keshwan
Hello Keshwan, Thanks for your question. No, DeckOver doesn't need an undercoat to go before it, although it definitely can be applied over existing paints and stains. In addition to removing any damaged or rotten boards (or repairing those, if possible) and filling any cracks greater than 1/4", we would recommend cleaning with a product like our No. 63 Wood Cleaner. Please be sure to follow all label instructions for best results. Well wishes! -Joshua

5-gal. #SC-533 Cedar Naturaltone Wood and Concrete Coating is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Unhappy after one year We cleaned our large deck as per instructions, applied the coating as per instructions, and one year later the coating is peeling up from the deck, not in one or two spots but all over our deck. All the money spent on this coating was a waste and so was the high price of labor to install it on our previously beautiful deck. I believe Behr should have to return all our expenses to us including the cost of this coating and the cost of removing it and replacing it on our decks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Huge waste of time and money! We painted our large deck with this paint last summer. This spring it started bubbling up and by mid summer it was peeling off in big strips. Painting it on is like painting with mud and is very time consuming. It took us weeks to complete but we thought it would be worth it in the end. Spent well over $400 on the paint and it didn't even last a year!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good It shows dirt. The guy at Home Depot said it doesn't have a sealant in it to protect it from dirt so the dirt wears into it and stays .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from save your money a couple of years ago I coated 2 porches on my house that were unfinished treated wood showing some signs of wear with deckover. I didn't use their cleaner prior to the coating but did a meticulous job of pressure washing the porches. I let it dry for 3 days and did 2 coats of deckover. There weren't a lot of cracks to fill in but the ones that were there responded well with heavy coats. Within less than a year certain spots that saw the most sun during the summer started to come up. Overall I liked the finish as it gave a bit of slip resistance but was troubled by the failure of the product even though the areas of failure were fairly small. This stuff in not at all inexpensive so I expected better. I made a comment or two to a Home Depot employee in the paint dept. and he was not very polite in his response. He insinuated that I didn't know what I was doing and that I obviously didn't properly prepare the surface. I'm well over 60 and have done a lot of painting inside and outside of various homes and cabins I have owned. I have tried various brands and quality levels of paints and was mostly successful and satisfied with most. When I did have a problem and brought the problem up to the vendor where I bought the paint in question my problem was pretty much always dismissed as improper surface prep. In my younger days I might have taken shortcuts but learned my lessons early on so I usually spend a fair amount of time and effort to make sure my work was worthwhile. This spring we added a handicap ramp for my wife's sister who was coming to visit and could not do stairs for various reasons. The ramp was built with treated lumber and left to cure for several months. I decided to hire the painting job out to a professional painter who had done some work for me a few years ago. I specified what product I wanted to use(Deckover) and told him I wanted him to use their prewash product. I can be verified that I bought the cleaner and the Deckover from Home Depot in Brandon, MS. I watched to be sure he did a good job of prepping the wood before coating. He used the cleaner and a brush and scrubbed the wood thoroughly. He let the wood sit for several days before coming back and applying the Deckover. He finished sometime around June and it looked great. A few weeks ago my wife complained to me that the stuff was starting to peel off in a couple of spots. I started paying closer attention to it and now I'm seeing more and more spots where the finish is just chipping/peeling off(coming off in 4" pieces). I gave this product a second chance because it was suggested that my preparation for the first time wasn't done properly. I have refinished decks before and pressure washing was all that was needed for a satisfactory and durable coating with a much less expensive product but I wanted to be sure that this time I did specifically as required and the deckover didn't even last more than a few months without peeling away. This is a very overpriced and unsatisfactory product and an expensive lesson.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Best 6 month deck cover on the market If you want your deck to look terrific for one season then this is the product for you. However, be aware that after one snowy winter your deck will emerge as the laughingstock of the neighborhood as large section will peel right off as you walk across your deck. Be prepared after you apply this product to spend additional time a year later chipping off the loose pieces in order to correct your deck with a proper stain which you wished you used the first go around.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waist of Your Money We were advised by the Home Depot Rep in paint section that Deck Over is the best on the market for your deck. Will last for a very long time and is very durable. After two months of application paint was bubbling and chipping away from wood. Cracks were not concealed. To be such and expensive product it was very disappointing. not even a year in we already have to repaint the deck. Product does not hold its value. Very Very unsatisfied!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very unhappy We applied this product last year after properly prepping the wood. We used 2 coats to ensure it went on thickly and well. Now, just a year later it is peeling off badly and is chipping. It went on well and looked beautiful the first year, and we thought we were happy about the product. Now it's coming off in strips.
