Approx how many sqft will 5 gal cover?

Previously painted composite wood exterior on manufactured home.
Asked by: Anonymous
Dear RON, Thank you very much for your question regarding PREMIUM PLUS® Exterior paint. A 5-Gallon bucket of PREMIUM PLUS will cover approximately 1,250 to 2,000 square feet. Rough exterior surfaces such as stucco and some heavy-texture woods may require more paint, bringing the square footage down to the 1,250 rage. Smooth surfaces such as vinyl and other smooth composite materials may get a bit more square footage and get up to the 2,000 range. So, depending on the substrate you are painting, you can estimate to the low or high end of our square footage range.

Do you need a primer on exterior painting of house if you aren't changing the color of house?

Asked by: Anonymous
There are a lot of variables. Is the existing surface chalky? Mildewed? Peeling? Dirty? Are you going to Pressure Clean? Ask the people in the paint section.

1-Qt. Deep Base Flat Exterior Paint is rated 1.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase ever. Never buy this paint, First of all. It looks like glue, Super tick and as soon it dries it becomes clear. Tried over brown paint and a clean brand new 4x4 post no paint on it and it dried like if I added glue to the post. No sure why they sell this, but sure enough I got money back. JAY!!!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst paint ever Not a 5 gallon bucket and barely covers 1000 sq ft. Dries too quickly because horrible adhesives added and does not spread well after exposed to air. Mixing does not help or stop this problem. Maintains color usually with effort but only if back tracking recoats are constanty done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great coverager & utility. I wanted an exterior flat black for utility. I have equipment & lumber I needed to protect. I cut the paint with DI water for my sprayer. I was very pleased with the coverage, hide characteristic and dry time. The pail cannot be left open for more than 20 minutes or skin will form on the top. I used about a quart and a half to paint the wood sides of a flatbed truck. Very pleased with the resuts. I have other projects i will be able to finish now with this fine paint.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage Paint This paint is TERRIBLE in many regards. 1- It's way too THICK. 2-Dries WAY TOO FAST. I'll say it again. It dries WAY TOO FAST. 3- (Because of 1 and 2 above) Does not cover HALF the sq. footage it's advertised to cover. I ran out of 1 quart of this garbage paint on the front and back of ONE factory-primed steel door. 4-Does not stick to what ever you're painting on NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU PREP THE SURFACE and NO MATTER HOW LONG YOU WAIT FOR THE PAINT TO CURE. Peels VERY VERY EASILY. DO NOT USE MASKING TAPE ON THIS PAINT!! I WILL NOT ORDER ANOTHER QUART TO FINISH THE JOB. I will buy another brand FROM ANOTHER STORE EVEN IF IT DOESN'T MATCH.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from How much paint is in a 5 gallon can? As other retailers have done, Home Depot sells paint in a 5 gallon container. But look at the quantity on the label before you buy. Some of their paints have 5 gallons. Some have 4.56 gallons. Some have 620 ounces. When I asked a manager if he knew this he said yes. He claimed that they leave room for the colorants to be added. I asked if any paints needed 0.44 gallons of colorants and he shrugged his shoulders. I wish I had asked him how much WHITE paint is in a 5 gallon can. Don't forget to check the 1 gal. cans too.
