Customer Questions & Answers

Would this be okay for use around animals?

I would be using this on wood for an animal cage, is it pet safe?
Asked by: HWolf
Sure would. I got eggs in a can with no paint product! I guess the pigment guy was sick that day

Can I apply this paint over latex primer? I used Kilz 2 Latex Primer to be exact. Thanks!

Asked by: Melissadenises
Yes, you won't have any problems. I've used the same primer with this paint and it performed well. In general, any latex paint can be used over any latex primer.

Is the the brightest white available?

Hello, I have used this paint brand before several times, and I like it, although it is pricey - you get what you pay for, though. I am looking for a bright white for my living room and kitchen, and I wonder if this is the brightest white color available. I would like it to be so bright white that it hurts my eyes. :) Thank you for your kind reply. Susie

Hi there! Thanks for writing in! I recommend using the Ultra Pure White base un-tinted; this is the purest and brightest white available. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P. Web Care

Will this particular paint cover up wall paper?

Asked by: 12315
Hello and thank you for your question. We do not suggest that you apply BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® directly onto your wall paper, however, instead apply an oil-based primer and then use this paint as a top coat. A great option for primer would be Kilz Original. Be sure to follow all back label instructions, and best of luck on your project!

1-gal. #500F-4 Swan Sea Zero VOC Satin Enamel Interior Paint is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 332.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does Not Blend We are experienced painters were always pleased with Behr Paint until they changed it and added primer. We painted our Kitchen, Living Room and Sunroom after remodeling our Kitchen. We spent a lot of time picking the perfect colors. This was the worst paint I've ever used. It does NOT Blend. You can not go back if you see a missed spot. Even after it dried, I could not touch up roller marks without leaving more. The colors are beautiful, but the quality is terrible. It also seems putty-like and chips off corners. Completely wasted our time and money. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Coverage I am a crazy interior painting lady. It is my favorite thing to do. I love changing colors in my home and I ALWAYS use Behr paint and no other. Recently I painted over a very dark blue (Mesmerize 590F-6) with a soft white/gray (Subtle Touch 790E-1). The coverage was exceptional. If I had to do it again I wouldn't change a thing. The soft satin finish adds to making my room fill larger and brighter. I am sold on Behr Satin Enamel. In fact, I love all Behr interior products. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Roll, DO NOT brush. I had settled on Behr for wall paint after being disappointed with the covera... Roll, DO NOT brush. I had settled on Behr for wall paint after being disappointed with the coverage of another brand. I've used Behr to roll out walls on my last few projects and have been very happy. One-coat coverage every time and the square footage per gallon is pretty good. However... The big problem came when I tried to use Behr Premium Plus to brush trim and doors, projects that require a paint that flows easily off the brush and that blends into a smooth finish. This paint just doesn't have good brushing characteristics. The attached pic shows the results I got literally every single time I tried to brush Behr paint on a number of projects. What you're looking at is an ordinary flat door where I'm working from top to bottom. The image shows where I'm back-brushing upwards into the previous section of paint above that was applied barely 30 seconds prior. It simply refuses to blend. No matter how well-loaded my brush or how quickly I worked, this Behr paint simply refuses to blend leaving a jagged edge every time. Even worse is that I already knew Behr was a pain to brush and the mix you see in the pic has a fair amount of Floetrol still didn't help. I had been down this road before while trying to brush trim with Behr Premium Plus and got exactly the same results. I had already switched brands to a paint that handled beautifully but I had no choice but to use this paint because I needed to match this door to the adjacent walls. The other side of this door is a different color and I used the other brand of paint that brushes beautifully just as it had on all my trim; all transitions blended perfectly, smooth and even. It's only the Behr paint that never brushes well. The only remedy will be to add even more Floetrol until it behaves better, which will be more than is typically recommended, but I should be able to eventually get it to work. But I shouldn't have to go to such lengths. The other paint is just better. Period. So 3-stars because it does a good job rolled on walls, which is what most people are doing, and I think the final finish is good and durable. But minus 2-stars because you won't be able to do much else with it. In the 21st century you would think they would have brushing characteristics down by now. My dad and I are now fixing up houses professionally so I'll be buying a lot of paint and I thought I could settle on Behr since it had done so well on walls. But not being able to brush is a serious liability for us so I'll be trying the other brand on the walls next time. If that paint also rolls well, then I'm giving Behr the boot and switching all my painting over to that brand. (Some sites filter certain product names in reviews so I'm not writing it so as not to have my review get hung up. Sorry, I'd love to let you know which paint performs so well. Not sure if HD reviews let you respond as do other sites. If so, give me a shout.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It! Quite a few years back I had a friend recommend this paint to me. Wow! I've been hooked on this stuff ever since that day. For my job I do a lot of interior painting. Something that I really like about this paint is the VOC is very low. I paint in peoples houses and business's and I love how this paint has no fumes. Thank you Behr! I only buy Behr paint. I actually wish I could get this brand of paint from other places besides Home Depot but, I'm grateful that Home Depot carries it. I've rolled this paint and sprayed it and it just works for me. I highly recommend this paint to other people out there that have painting projects. Let's Behr this world together! Rated 5 out of 5 by from supreme quality Behr premium plus is the best paint I've ever used. The quality is far superior to any paint brand I have used in the past. Since using this paint, I have never again bought another paint brand. Not only does it cover the previous paint well but the finished product is of superior quality. I love this paint and will not buy anything else. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for all surfaces I began painting my front door a year ago. I used a paint that I was told was fantastic. To this day, I am not happy with the way the paint came out. When it was time for the rest of the house, I went back to Behr which I have used for many years. I painted a den, living room, dinning room, kitchen, hall, stairs, front entrance along with the family room downstairs, two of the three bathrooms. I used the same paint for all of these projects. I also used a semi gloss for the trim, and the fire places. The look was amazing. I love the coverage, the easy way it went on, the easy clean up and the pop that it gave the house after the dark colors that the prior owner had painted. I love bright and although I kept the color neutral I added the white to bring out the light. The house is open therefore the color allows for a darker shade however I am happy with the mid tones and the white. I did do the bathroom upstairs in a green and the downstairs in a beach color blue. Love it and really makes the room happy. I followed that up with a lighter blue on wains coating around the bottom of the family room and will continue with the deeper blue in the rest of the downstairs. It matches the carpet which was with the house. Behr has NEVER disappointed me, and I have painted on my own for many years. I decided that I was going to refinish an older dresser. I sanded down two pieces and I used your primer - 2 coats, and once dry used two of the satin to paint the actual wood. It took awhile however it looks great and had held up. The piece I worked on in the basement I used another product and it is pealing. Great product, selection and price. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent One-Coat Coverage I read the reviews in Consumer Reports on paint and this paint received the highest ratings and I can see why. I have highly textured living room walls that I wanted to paint turquoise. I purchased the Premium Plus paint and was surprised at the excellent coverage, especially compared to a similar paint I purchased because of the close to no VOCs. I used a high-knap roller and the paint clung nicely, without a drop and covered the high texture very well. In contrast to the other paint - Behr came out far superior. The other paint (locally made) was thin, watery, and splattered (I learned to paint the top half of my two-story walls first). I needed a second coat, ran out, and the new batch didn't match the first so I had to repaint everything. I will only buy Behr in the future. The higher price is certainly worth it. I have since recommended Behr to my mother and others. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
