will this work with semi-gloss paint?

I'm remodeling my kitchen and the new design has a 'feature wall' behind the breakfast nook. We're going to put a semi-gloss finish on this wall. If I use this primer over the new drywall, can I paint the semi-gloss right over it - or do I need to add another/different primer coat first?
Asked by: Anonymous
NO not applied on it or ober the top of it. Use a paint with the primer in it and have it tinted.

1 gal. Drywall Primer and Sealer is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 246.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good value; not sure if it's worth it Good product. Good price point. But after using it I'm not sure if it's really worth the effort. If you need a white background, covering a horrible color/paint underneath, you can just use Flat or Satin Behr paint + primer. It gives you better coverage because of paint pigments. The primer-only in my opinion is just a waste of money and time. I agree that price-wise this is much cheaper, probably third of the price ($13-ish vs $30-ish) but you also have to apply this primer 3 or 4 times to cover an existing color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use real primer Up until now, I've always trusted paint that said "paint and primer in one!"....even when I was putting a first coat on spackle/joint compound patch work. I'll never do THAT again. This primer puts a true, thin sealant over raw compound or plaster and keeps it smooth with a superb result. I can't believe I didn't use this with so many previous projects that ended up looking amateurish. Now I can patch and prime like a pro.

I purchased this instead of Kilz where I had been using the Kilz, albeit a higher cost item. I have to admit that the Kilz provided better cover and base for the finish paint. I saved 20 but should have gone with higher priced primer. That said I could have purchased a higher priced BEHR primer as well. So maybe an unfair comparison. It worked OK, just not as good as the Kilz.

Two coats on the raw drywall prepares and seals the surface for one coat of Behr Flat White Ceiling Paint or the Behr Premium Eggshell Enamel I used on the walls. Having the raw surfaces suck this stuff in is a whole lot more economical than if you use the finish products alone. Time well spent on this prep...

Initially the primer/paint did not cover these whiter areas left over after removing older wall paper (maybe 15 years old). So i purchased a can of this and planned to re-pain over top with the primer/paint. The primer did not cover the same areas and the paint required another 3 coats in most areas.

Had to go back and get separate primer, redo the bathroom and apply again and it still didn't cover it fully. Applied 2 coats and did not completely cover, 4 coats total and could really use another coat but I was over it at 4! Sherwin Williams is the best.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Buyer beware, this primer is not to be used... Buyer beware, this primer is not to be used as an undercoat for any paint with a sheen. If you are intending on using a semi gloss or gloss this primer will cause excessive flashing which is extremely difficult to get rid of .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good primer sealer for new drywall Worked well, could of been a little thicker for a better coat. Some places it worked great some coulda used two coats. Worked great with Behr paint. But Glidden Diamond sucked! Worse paint ever! At least on primed dryway.
