Hi Phil,
Behr Premium Plus Ultra is water based, 100% acrylic. Semi-Gloss Enamel refers to the sheen of the paint, which is a light gloss perfect for trim, doors, kitchens, baths. Easy clean-up with soap and water.

Hi RMB,
There are many different types of primers including specialty primers formulated for specific purposes. Primers are most often used for the following reasons:
1) Blocking Stains: Covering stains with coat of paint will not prevent the stain from eventually bleeding through the paint film and reappearing at the surface. Primers with stain blocking properties such as Behr Exterior Multi-Surface Primer and Sealer #436 will "lock in" the stain in the primer coat so it will not bleed through the paint film.
2) Sealing Porous Surfaces: Porous surfaces will absorb paint, making the final finish look uneven and blotchy (and possibly requires you to use more paint!) Sealing the surface with a primer first will help promote a smooth and even surface.
3) Promoting Adhesion to Surfaces: It is difficult for paint to adhere to some surfaces, such as glossy surfaces and metals. Primers work like glue, sticking the paint film to the surface.
4) Over Patch and Repair: If you have a patched area, chances are you are applying paint over two very different materials each with different porosity. (For instance, patching compound may be denser than the surrounding wood). A coat of primer over these different materials seals the surface and provides a nice, even base for a coat of paint.
5) Changing Color: In some cases, using a tinted primer will save you coats of paint when making a drastic color change. "Drastic" color changes could be light to dark or dark to light or from one hue to another hue.
If you want to save the time and effort of using a primer, we recommend Behr Premium Plus Ultra Paint and Primer in One. It has been specifically formulated to block stains, seal porous surfaces and promote adhesion to properly prepared surfaces without the need for a separate primer product.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 62 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Behr no customer loyalty Have bought over 12 gallons in the past 5 years, paint is good, but has faded from sun. Behr customer service lousy. Sent in for rebate and didn't have reading glasses to read print. Rebate ended on a Sunday, yet home depot ad didn't end till Wednesday. Bought early morning on Monday, 8 hrs late for rebate, sent in anyway, and they didn't honor it. Poor customer loyalty relations, will buy something different next time. Also paint match was darker, so waste of money. Just wanted to paint bottom panel of garage door, doesn't match. Only bought at time, because of rebate, misleading, and poor customer service, even kept my reciept. July 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Paint We buy Behr paint all the time. We have used this exterior paint for many purposes on our property over the years. It lasts really well and we buy this even when there is another paint that is cheaper. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Breath of Fresh Air Took our home to a whole new level! Thank you Behr! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great buy! The painters I hired to paint my home exterior insisted we use only this product. I dont argue with experts! It was 10 years ago and my home still looks beautiful and only took one coat. I love the results and would recommend it to everyone! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] April 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really great!! I used this paint to redo the doors on my new house. I love the way that it went on. It was a bit thicker than typical wall paint, but in the end, who cares? The only reason thing I've found to be a pain is that it scratches a little when my dog shuts the dokr behind himself. I didn't lower the star rating, because even though it's scratched a little bit, it's been 4-20x per day over 4 month's time and I've only had a few small spots to touch up. It's been a really great product, and I used so little of my pint, that I'll have touchup paint for years. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] February 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Exterior Paint Best garage door paint I've used, and it's self priming with mildew resistance. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] March 2, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Wrong Color for Front Door I am painting a new front door. The first coat of paint went on smoothly, but the door appeared bright pink (I had chosen a dark red color). After the second coat, it is still a pinkish color but a little darker, but still not the color that I chose.. I am waiting for spring time to put on a 3rd coat. I didn't know that I would have to put so many coats of paint on this door. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Withstands test of time We painted our house with Behr paint 15 years ago and will never use another brand. We had a fire in our kitchen 2 years ago and insisted on using Behr to repaint the kitchen and are completely satisfied. we have had great results inside and out.
