Hello joe,
We appreciate your question. Yes, this paint can be applied to a metal garage door. Here's the required preparation steps: If previously painted, please clean the whole surface with soap and water. For bare metal, we recommend cleaning the whole surface, removing any rust, roughing up the surface by sanding, using steel wool, abrasive blasting, or other methods. Hi bobbie,
Thanks for writing in! The Exterior Premium Plus paint can be applied over painted metal. If the previous paint has any gloss, it's recommended to lightly sand the surface and clean it off before recoating. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

Hi David,
We appreciate your interest in our paint for your garage! This paint can be used as a primer, so applying a separate primer isn't necessary. Your first coat of paint will act as your primer coat, and any additional coats (1-2) will build up the color and a uniform finish. Based off 600 sq. ft., we recommend using 4 gallons for 2 coats. Any of our sheens would be a great option, however if Read More

We have gone with a satin finish for our exterior. IT seems glossy enough to be washable but we can still do some touch up and not have it look too different from the original job. Great question. Each gallon covers about 250-400 square feet. Each 5 gallon container covers about 1250-2000 square feet.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 262 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Last Purchase of Behr I have had problems with Behr stains before but overlooked them. This semi gloss enamel was the worst paint I have ever used. It shows the brush strokes, does not self level as an enamel should and still showed brush marks after three coats. I used a much cheaper Wal Mart paint on the interior side of the door with very good results September 14, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Paint peels I painted my entire house with this paint. I'm very frustrated becuase if someone bumps into a wall or stairway, the paint pulls up. It doesn't crack. It is almost like taffy where you try to take off the damaged area and it stretches out. I finished painting over three weeks ago so it shouldn't be tacky or stretchy at this point. July 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible Paint We intended to use this paint for our front door as recommended by a sales associate. It was a primed door which was properly sanded and prepared and the paint was thoroughly mixed. The first and only coat we put on (because we decided it looked too terrible to fix) was patchy, showed every brush and roller stroke and was completely uneven in texture and color. This is the strangest paint we have ever used - it was thick and gloppy in the can but it applied unevenly and covered very little of the white door underneath. It is a complete falsehood to say that this paint has excellent hide and "enhanced adhesion." If it cannot cover our primed and prepped front door, I wonder how well it would work on any other surface. I will never buy Behr paint again and now have to purchase new paint to fix this mess. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buy if you want to make latex sponge. Hardens in the can between seasons I'm getting really frustrated with this paint as it keeps turning into a loaf of paint if I don't use it within 6 months. This last time I stored the paint in my basement thinging it was freezing over the winter in my garage and the one stored inside did the same thing. I'm not sure if the color is reacting with the paint or someting, but I'm going to have to see if I can color match it somewhere else (which is almost always impossible) because I can't keep a can of this stuff from Spring to Fall or Fall to Winter without getting a gray sponge instead of paint. SUPER FRUSTRING!!! August 20, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Behr no customer loyalty Have bought over 12 gallons in the past 5 years, paint is good, but has faded from sun. Behr customer service lousy. Sent in for rebate and didn't have reading glasses to read print. Rebate ended on a Sunday, yet home depot ad didn't end till Wednesday. Bought early morning on Monday, 8 hrs late for rebate, sent in anyway, and they didn't honor it. Poor customer loyalty relations, will buy something different next time. Also paint match was darker, so waste of money. Just wanted to paint bottom panel of garage door, doesn't match. Only bought at time, because of rebate, misleading, and poor customer service, even kept my reciept. July 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Paint Ever! I used this paint to paint my entire new home. We also received a rebate on all the paint we purchased each time. This exterior paint looks great on the shed we did. September 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer Beware!! Do not buy online! Color will not be what you ordered! They will not give any REFUNDS even though they mixed it wrong color! The paint is great! Mix it well before using. Don't buy online! August 16, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Don't like primer & paint in one Paint and primer in one is not a good value because it takes at least 2 applications. My paint job already had a primer coat on it so I had to give it 2 more coats. It is almost impossible to find a 1 coat paint in the Home Depot that I visited. August 16, 2016
