Customer Questions & Answers

If I wanted to spray this on, could I? Would I use a regular sprayer or a hopper?

Asked by: Anonymous
This isn't spray texture. You need to roll this on with a roller or dab it with a brush. It won't go through a sprayer and I think it would gum up a hopper. If you have a hopper, just use normal texturing material.

I have a hunter green wall that I want to cover. Would you recommend a coat of primer first? If so, what type/color? My wall is painted paneling.

Asked by: Anonymous
You can buy paint that has primer in it. I'm not sure I would use this product at all. I'd probably use a spray on texture vs. this. It is very thick and dries very fast and is clumpy and very hard to work with. .

Is this product applied the same way you would apply paint? Like with a roller?

Asked by: Anonymous
Apply it with a roller. I used a semi-rough roller. However, you will roll it on differently than paint. Load up your roller and you will only get a short line of texture. The "paint" portion of the product will keep going on, but you will run out of texture quickly. I would practice in an inconspicuous place before doing the main area. It takes a little practice to keep it even.

Do you have a 'tester sample' of BEHR Ultra 8 oz. White Testured Sand Ceiling Paint

Asked by: Anonymous
Not that I know of. This product will drive you crazy! :( Get the kind that is like sand that you mix in with your paint.

2 gal. Sand Finish Flat Interior Texture Paint is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Texture Paint I bought this paint to try and hide some blemishes in my bathroom. After using it, I absolutely loved it. I did another bathroom and my stairs. The paint is very versitile. I was able to vreate a different look on the walls of each room. Just dont put it on too thick or it slides down the wall. I learned that on the first try. This is a very easy way to change any wall and it has lasted for several years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use with a trowel or brush for great results We have used this product throughout our house. We have a house that is around 115 years old without a straight or even wall. Initially, we tried to use the loop roller but it didn't work well as other reviewers mentioned. But when we applied with a trowel, it gave a sort of 'stucco' look that looks great in the house. Hid all the imperfections. It takes some time to put on this way, but the results are well worth it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEAUTIFUL RESULTS! I'm not sure what people expect when they complain about the mess, of course you will get a little dirty, but it cleans up super easy and the results are well worth it!! I'm a woman with zero experience with textured paint and it was simple once I got the technique down. When they say do the "W" pattern, do it to avoid roller pad patterns. Also, do the 3' sections at a time because the second coat dries extremely fast, especially if you're going for the knock down look. And I did see where they said to use a primer first. Research first people!! Apply thick and roll slowly to avoid excessive splatter. TA-DA!! Stunning. I have now decided to head into the hallway and down to the kitchen. I absolutely love it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mixed review Please consider carefully before purchasing this product! First the positives -- the finished product looks great, it covers any imperfections well, and it cleans up with water. Now the negatives -- this product is EXTREMELY messy -- use lots of drop cloths, wear a hat and coveralls or old clothes that you don't intend to wear again. It is also VERY hard to stir -- the directions said to use a typical stir stick, but we had to use a 2x4 to get results. You will also use a lot more of the product than the directions imply -- the brochure said one 2-gallon can would cover 100-200 square feet -- we used FIVE cans for one coat on an 11x13 ceiling! You will waste a lot of the product because it drips constantly as you are using it. The entire process is very time-consuming because you can only tolerate doing it in short blocks of time -- very frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best thing for damaged walls I started with damaged walls and ceilings (why did they hang wallpaper directly onto drywall in the 50's?!?! And who papers ceilings?!?!) and this texture paint saved me hundreds of dollars. The walls had about 4 layers of wallpaper that I sprayed and scored and scraped and steamed but only ended up damaging the walls even further. The whole house was gutted and there wasn't another dime to spend so I searched for SOMETHING to fix the walls and ceiling. Behrs Smooth Finish texture paint was my answer. After I was done (it WAS time consuming and very very MESSY) the walls looked professionally faux finished and everyone marveled about how this texture paint MADE the bedrooms in the house. And best of all no one would ever know the drywall was damaged underneath!! Paneling may have been easier or cleaner but I would not have had the gorgeous finished project when I was done. My next project I'm going to try using this paint to cover up old fake wood paneling...wish me luck!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Instructions leave out important result Based on the literature on the container, I bought the interior texture paint. One of the selling points on the container was "Reinforced with Interwoven fibers for added durability." It also says in the application instructions that if you want a different color or added durability to use a Behr primer and paint after applying the textured paint. I didn't think that "added durability", which is twice on the container, actually meant "any" durability. I found out that if you need to clean the wall with a wet rag, the texture comes off entirely if you have not added the primer and print on top. I had not planned on doing that since I was happy with the white color of the textured paint, but Behr has told me that is the only way to fix the problem. If I had known, I would have gone in another direction concerning the walls. I have not added the primer and paint yet, but will do so as I have no choice at this point. Behr needs to make it plain on their container that durability without added primer and paint lasts only as long as you do not need to clean the wall. Considering the vulnerability of the final result, it would seem this would better suited only to ceilings instead of living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, bedrooms and kitchens that are suggested on the container.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Solution, Better Than Spray On Can Tried this stuff after I used the spray on texture, which looked terrible. My popcorn ceilings had been professionally sprayed on so I wasn't expecting a miracle when using the Behr product. I was actually surprised at the resulits, not an exact match by any means but definitely far better results than with the spray on texture. Unless you are trying to match really extreme, large textured popcorn I wouldn't use a loop roller as suggested....I started off with the loop roller but ended up using a standerd roller designed for rough surfaces, had a much better result. I patched a pretty large area (6' X 6') and it came out looking solid, would work even better for smaller patch jobs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Product I was hired to paint a kitchen of a home over 100 yrs old. It is now being rented out as a rooming house so you can well imagine the state of the kitchen. Needless to say, after 3 layers of wallpaper were stripped off the walls a horrible plaster-like wall remained. Various products were used in an attempt to get off the remaining "glue" from the old-fashioned wall-paper with less than great results. The Behr textured paint was recommended to me by a knowledgeable Home Depot Associate. I gave it a try. I would NOT recommend the textued roller as it creates a mess, but application by brush dabs created a wonderful result of clean, new walls and no one would ever know what lies underneath. Thanks. I'm going to use this again.
