I found my notes where the contractor that painted used Kilz Pro-x pecan sandie. When I went to Home Depot I asked for Behr pecan sandie. Can this quart of paint be fixed to match Kilz Pro-x pecan sandie or do I need to buy another quart of paint?

Hi 61ltz,
To get the most accurate match, we suggest bringing in a sample of what your contractor used the first time to your local The Home Depot. There, an associate at the paint desk will be able to color match the paint to the sample you brought it.
Hope this helps and good luck with your project!

Why is my paint not matching exactly? The house was painted over a year ago and recently I had to do some touch ups so went to Home Depot and bought a quart of Behr pecan sandie but it is much lighter than the original paint. How can I match the paint exactly?

When applying touch up paint, apply a thin coat, feathering out that thin coat of paint to avoid hard edges. Also, thinning the touch up paint with a small amount of water may help eliminate those hard edges as well.
Another option is to bring a small piece of something that was painted with the paint from a year ago into The Home Depot. You might have a piece of extra molding or a small items from that room. A paint associate can color match to that piece if you are able to bring it to the store.
Hope this helps and best of luck on your project! Read Less

Hi Anthony,
The house paint that is most commonly used in residential painting can be broken down into two general categories:
1) Oil-based or Alkyd paint
- These paints have a natural or synthetic oil base and they require mineral spirits or solvents for clean up.
2) Water-based (Latex)
- The term "Latex" is sometimes used to refer to water-based paints (there is no natural latex in the paint) and can be cleaned up with soap and water.
There are also some Hybrid Paints that use a combination of paint technologies, but these are less common.
Paint also has what is called a "binder". This is what forms the film after the paint had dried. Think of is as the "glue" that holds the paint film together and sticks the film to the surface. The type of binder determines many properties of the dried paint film such as durability, flexibility, water and stain resistance and adhesion. There are a number of examples- 100% Acrylic, Acrylic (not 100%), Vinyl Acrylic (PVA), Styrene Acrylic etc.
Behr Premium Plus Ultra is a 100% Acrylic, water-based (Latex), Paint and Primer in One. It has a very tight, durable film that protects against weather better than typical paint.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 65 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not good for us we used Behr exterior paint, color light sage green, and after a few years, the south side of the house that faced the sun turned turquoise !!! Needless to say, we had to repaint the entire house, and went back to Porter Paint. June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The best paint The best paint on the market, goes on smooth and looks great March 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Paint Product I purchased this paint after reading Consumer Reports and saw it's high rating, then comparing it to other name brand paints. We painted my wood fence and it is beautiful. It was in bad shape but now looks brand new. The paint covered very well and went on smoothly. I love the Satin grade for the slight sheen it has. We used the color Polar Bear, white, by Behr, for the fence and plan to use the same color on the eaves and trim of the house which we are preparing to paint. I am looking for a blue color for the house and will definitely use Behr, maybe the Premium Plus Ultra. I know my house will look wonderful! Thanks for a great product. November 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by House Looks Great Now! My house was due for a paint job, but choosing the satin and the color I did... with the great coverage makes me smile every time I look at the walls outside! Paint is always a great choice February 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Exterior Paint! I used this product to paint the metal siding on a 1950's house. It went on easily, covered well, made the house look fantastic!! Would highly recommend as easy to apply, durable. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exterior I painted my house trim last year with Behr Exterior Premium Plus. It cover wonderfully and everyone commented on how nice my house looked. I had painted my house trim Cinnabark and highlighted the trim around the windows Dark Crimson. My garage was white and this year we painted it also. However, to try to save a few dollars, I used another brand. BIG mistake, it covered terrible. So I stopped using it and went and bought the Behr, which I should have done in the first place. The coverage this paint gives makes it really less expensive than buying the cheaper brands you have to use more of anyway. As you can see it gives the house a more warn and welcoming feeling, at least I think so September 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good for House Trailers I needed to cover a dark blue finish with a solid white. Behr covered most of it excellently with just one coat. I just needed minimal touch-up with a 2nd coat. Apllications worked on both 60 degree and 75 degree days. October 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Patio furniture looks like new I picked up some mid- century patio furniture that was in desparate need of attention. I sanded the surface and sprayed the furniture with Behr Premium Plus Exterior Satin Paint/Primer in one. The paint flowed great in my sprayer and left a very smooth, even professional looking final product. No primer coat necessary! October 15, 2015
