Answer:
Absolutely Ewen!
Behr recommends thinning with water and using no more than one cup of water per gallon of stain.
NOTE:
Check the "Clean Up" line ... if it says "Clean up with water" then you only thin with water.
This is true for almost all paint or stain products.

Answer:
If you have a good sprayer with adequate air pressure, it should work fine. If you question it, I have found the tech support at Behr very helpful. Try it! No damage done.

Hello again Ewen,

Airless spray is recommended for experienced applicators only; use a .015 - .019” tip. If thinning is required, thin with water at a rate of no more than 1/2 pint per gallon. Maintain a wet edge when applying.
PREPARATION† Use a product such as BEHR PREMIUM NO. 64 Wood Stain & Finish Stripper to remove loose wood fibers, latex, oil-based and 100% acrylic coatings on new or weathered wood. BEHR PREMIUM NO. 63 All-In-One Wood Cleaner MUST be used following NO. 64 to clean, brighten & neutralize wood. When NO. 64 is not needed, use a product such as NO. 63 to clean and brighten the wood surface and to remove light to medium exterior stains caused by mold, mildew, algae & fungus. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry before coating. On new wood, use a product such as NO. 63 to remove mill glaze and open the pores of the wood. Lightly sand to remove remaining wood fibers/fuzz.
APPLICATION Must apply between 40-90˚F (4.5-32˚C). Do not use if rain is expected within 24 hours. The wood surface must be completely dry before application. No primer needed on most woods. However, Redwood, Cedar, Cypress and other “bleeding” woods contain water soluble extractives which may cause discoloration of white and pastel colors; therefore prime the above type woods with one coat of a product such as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® NO. 436 Exterior Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer. See label for additional instructions. Intermix multiple containers to ensure color uniformity. Stir product occasionally throughout application. Use a 3/8” nap roller, nylon/polyester brush, pad applicator or airless sprayer.
Always backbrush and apply product end to end or to board lengths to prevent lap marks. Over application of stain will lead to surface failure including peeling and cracking. Avoid applying stain too heavily. For optimum performance, coat all six sides of wood.

Dear Mike,
All of the Behr Stains and Finishes provide complete protection for your wood surface and do not require separate sealers that typically will not last as long as the Behr wood coatings.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 54 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking finish so far! Over time, we have built more deck than we need, but love it. Finish had gone downhill but we usually only use Behr products so we started looking. Settled on this in Padre Brown. Few photos show part of what we used 22 gallons on! Sure hope it lasts, because I don't want to paint all this again!!!! So far, it looks brand new. Age ranges from 18 to 10 years, but looks uniform now. November 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Deck Stain We Have Ever Used We have tried several different brands. Two summers ago, we stained all our decks with another brand. The stain did not stick to any of the horizontal surfaces. Consequently, they all had to be redone. A great deal of time and money wasted. We re-stained with Behr and the stain held up even through our harsh Michigan winter. I would not purchase any other brand from now on. My daughter bought a house last fall and purchased a different brand of paint for her interior and I was helping her paint. I was so frustrated I wanted to go to Home Depot and purchase Behr paint myself to replace what she had. It was runny and the coverage was terrible. It took more paint because it needed multiple coats and still the finish did not look good. You definitely get what you pay for. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent stain Covers in one application and matches exactly to the sample in the booklet. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Product Ever With an 8 foot back fence and a 4 foot front fence - Behr has with stood the test of time for over 25 years. The fence itself still looks amazing it is just the interior boards that are attached to the fence that begins to show the wear. My experience the Behr has lasted about 13 years and then it is time to do it again, but it is easy to apply with a roller and looks beautiful when finished. I just started painting the front fence and all my neighbors love the color and how it looks. I will never use any other for outside or inside. Behr is for me. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding results staining our cedar house I have been staining our cedar sided house with this Behr product and I could not be happier with the results! Excellent one coat coverage and our house looks 20 years newer! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] February 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A huge letdown Normally I would trust the Behr products, but this seems extremely substandard. For one thing, the coverage seems to be overrated. But, the worst thing is that the product is already beginning to flake off the surface like latex paint. The surface was powerwashed, scrubbed twice, powerwashed again, let completely dry, applied with roller and back-brushed to insure coverage...there are already three spots where the wood is now exposed. The product does not seem to repel water, but soak it up. Now, I am going to have to look into a waterproofing sealer that I can put over top of the acrylic solid stain if I am going to protect my $260 investment in materials and three days worth of work. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great coverage this stain offers great coverage. It's brought new life to our very faded deck [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] September 24, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for staining an outbuilding The Behr solid color waterproofing wood stain we used on our wooden storage building looks good. The stain seemed a little thin as we applied it, and it took two (or sometimes three) coats to cover the previous finish. Time will tell if it holds up for five or more years...
